A Year of Birchbox Gifts: It’s a Wrap

See recent Birchbox articles and all Welcome Box articles.

Thanks for following along with My Year of Birchbox Gifts Series. After ordering 16 subscriptions this year, I am finally done. I love stats, so I thought it would be fun to wrap the adventure that way. Of those 16 subscriptions, 14 went to lucky gift recipients, and I sent 2 to myself. This does not include my main subscription, which dates back to February 2014. A little trivia. The top of the body remained very similar across most articles as did the base. Did you notice toward the end of the series that I started to change the wording at the bottom to show the end was near?

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. On 06/19/15, I ordered a subscription for my sister-in-law, who was about to turn 35. Her birthday was almost five months away, but I decided to have her gift delivered right away. It shipped a few days after I placed the order.

I redeemed $10 in points and ordered this for $20 from my primary account using the code CULTURE. This code gave me 100 points with the subscription order.

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. It shipped a few days after I placed the order.

I redeemed $10 in points and ordered this for $20 from my third account using the code CULTURE. This code gave me 100 points with the subscription order.

Birchbox gives at least five beauty samples each month for $10. For every review I give, I get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A five sample box like this one got me $5 back. I also shared my box on Facebook for an extra 10 points. That gave me a total of $6 back to redeem toward future purchases. You can read my detailed overview of the program for more information. Each month, you get a sample choice or you can select the guest editor box. For this box, I selected the sea salt spray.

This is the first of my three Birchbox Subscriptions. Box Two and Three were different.

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. On 05/27/15, I ordered a subscription for my sister-in-law’s girlfriend, who was about to turn 36. Boxes received have more to do with the ship date than the order date. Her birthday was less than a month away, so I selected 06/08/15 as her ship date.

I redeemed $10 in points and ordered this for $20 from my second account using the code LONGWEEKEND. This code gave me 70 points with the subscription order.

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. On 04/28/15, I ordered a subscription for my sister, who was about to turn 37. I selected 06/19/15 for her ship date, because her actual birthday was two months away. The box she received had more to do with the ship date than the order date.

I redeemed $10 in points and ordered this for $20 from my third account using the code SUBSCRIBENOW50, which I already used on my primary account and my second account. This code gave me 50 points with the subscription order.

You’ve banked a lot of points at Birchbox. What should you spend them on? There are thousands of great items in the store. If you’re a subscriber, you’ve probably even sampled some gems you could buy. I like to use my points to purchase more boxes. The Limited edition boxes, in particular. The Gym Bag Heroes Limited Edition Box is perfect for me. New gear for my workouts is great, although I look forward to trying most of the beauty products as well.

A Year of Birchbox Gifts Volume Seven

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all of the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscriptions for their birthdays. My sister was about to turn 40 when I ordered her gift on 04/26/15. Seeing what comes in their welcome boxes, which are never customized to a profile, would be fun for me and hopefully helpful to someone thinking of purchasing a gift subscription for a family member or a first subscription for herself. Everyone was told about my plan to write an article on their welcome boxes before the purchase was made. It has not been worth mentioning up until this point, because I did not want to bore any of you with minute details (my articles are detailed enough). I told them my plan, asked them for their email address and mailing address which Birchbox needs to fulfill the gift.

They all knew that they needed to fill out their beauty profiles if they wanted their second and third boxes customized to their needs as well. Each sister was asked to send me a picture of the product card and box contents upon arrival. That is all I asked was a picture be sent to me. Anyone who reads my personal box reviews knows that I share how much I either like the item or am looking forward to trying it. I break down the value of the items and my personal value. The reason I have not valued any of these welcome boxes is because I thought it would be way too much of a hassle to give someone a gift and demand they review it or provide product sizes for me to calculate value.

A Year of Birchbox Gifts Volume Six

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all of the women in my immediate family 3 month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. My brother-in-law and his 22 year old fiancé have been together since she was 14.  She is my sister in every sense of the word.  On 04/20/15, I placed a late birthday order for her from my main account.  Her actual birthday was almost two months prior, which fell during the period I was out of the beauty spirit.  Ordering her gift subscription two weeks after I resumed the gifts helped bring me back full circle, too, because she was the last one I was behind in buying.

I actually had 302 points in my account thanks to reviewing the items from my most recent box and the most recent purchase I made on the main account.  Redeeming 300 points for a $30 gift sub meant this was the first (and sadly only) gift subscription that did not cost me anything.  A new code 100FORME was released that applied to gift subscriptions.  The fine print on the code said you would get 100 points with a $30 purchase.  It meant 30 points for $30 spent plus a bonus 70.  Usually, I am good at reading fine print, but I admit this one tricked me.  I did not notice that it only gave me 70 points until after I ordered it and wondered why I only had 72 points.

A Year of Birchbox Gifts Volume Three

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send three month Birchbox gift subscriptions to all the women in my immediate family. Immediately after placing an order for my sister-in-law on 04/06/15 in Volume Two, I placed an order for my 41-year-old sister who actually celebrated her birthday about two weeks earlier.  Her birthday fell during a time where I took a break from all things beauty, but I knew I would make it up to her.  Seeing what comes in their welcome boxes, which are never customized to a profile, would be fun for me and hopefully helpful to someone thinking of purchasing a gift subscription for a family member or a first subscription for herself.

Codes can only be used once per account, so the code I used for 100 points earlier in the day was no longer valid.  I found another code SUBSCRIBENOW50 to get 50 points back.  It is still active if you want to use it, but remember to check all offers here to see if a better one may apply to your order.  I earned $10 in points placing the last order, so I used that here.  That means her subscription cost me $20.  The 50 points I got back on her order could go toward a future order.  You cannot count points toward the discount as you earn and redeem, so I will only count them as I redeem them. That means the $5 I get back on this order will go toward a future order just as the $10 I applied on this order came from past orders.
