Subscription Box Finds – Is Joining a Subscription Box Right For You?

I love sampling new things. The thought of discovering my latest and greatest FabuFind is always with me. There are items I adore and will probably always repurchase, but trying new things gives me the chance to find things I love even more. My sample obsession started with purchasing packaged sets. These usually contain items I really want to try or items I’ve tried in the past and need more time with. Sometimes, you find sets that are great values, so it is actually cheaper to purchase them if you really want most or all the items in the set. Although I still purchase sample sets, there is something surprisingly welcome about not knowing what I will get. Subscription Boxes seemed like the logical step to try items I had not considered.

Get Free Samples Volume Seven

Nothing beats completely free offers. Sometimes, there really is no catch to obtaining free items. You just have to know where to look and how to find them. Welcome to the seventh installment of items I’ve received for free. Past free sample articles feature different freebies. The offers at times come in emails. Sometimes, you will see them on a blog or the direct brand’s website. Other times, you can find free offers on social media or even through snail mail. My Free Samples Page provides more information on sample opportunities. Offers can at times come by phone, but I never answer numbers I do not recognize. I will miss out on any that come that way.

Black Friday Deals

Black Friday is the biggest sale day of the year. Traditionally, it is the day most stores cross from red (losing money) to black (making money). Most cross in style with more deals than we can ever partake in. Participating in the best deals once required you to venture out at 3am. Now, you can get a number of great deals from your house. Cyber Monday will bring deals of its own, but it is not always the case that the best Internet deals come out Monday. Many stores see the same sale both days (assuming inventory lasts through the weekend). Some sales are better on Black Friday, even online.

Target Beauty Box 10! of our faves

Target releases seasonal beauty boxes. They range in price from $5 to $10. Unlike some beauty boxes, this is not a subscription. Box contents appear online once they become available, which decreases the likelihood of buyer’s remorse. Items inside a box only tend to vary in color meaning your only surprise will be in the color you get. Some items inside the box are full-sized, and it is not unusual that one item exceeds the cost of the entire box if you were to buy it separately. I like that they usually release more than one box at a time giving you a choice or the possibility to get multiples. Men are not left out either, because they sometimes get a box of their own.

When Target advertised the 10! of our faves box, I really wanted the: lipstick, Roc, and skinfix. Other items were all bonuses. The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription. You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out quickly. I ordered it right away, because it was only $10. It is hard not to find $10 in value. This box sold out before I even got my shipping notification. That means waiting to see what comes in everyone’s box is not an effective strategy on obtaining one. If you want to make sure you get a fall box, subscribe to Target emails and look at them when they hit your inbox. Of course, I will always alert you on the front page when they come back in stock as well. Continue reading

Drugstore Finds

I love finding quality items, and I love it even more when they’re a good price. More often than not, I avoid drugstore items. It is not because they lack quality. Trying things before I buy them is just preferred, and I find it easier to get samples from mid range and high-end brands. If the deal is good enough, I will try drugstore items despite never sampling them first. The good news is even if they’re terrible, I am not out as much as I am when I buy terrible items from more expensive categories. This is the main reason I love samples.

I have also tried to get my hands on more drugstore samples lately. There are some cheap, and effective ways to do this. My subscription to the Wal-Mart Beauty Box ($5 a quarter) helped me discover gems. The Target Beauty Box ($5-$10) also helps. Sites covered on my Free Samples page also help with this endeavor. The Olay Regenerist sample I got recently came from P&G Everyday. Drugstore.com has gifts with purchase I’ve redeemed to try new items when purchasing items I already know love. In other words, it is easier to sample drugstore items than I originally thought.

When Target advertised the Hello Sunshine, I was excited to see the hair and teeth items. Other items were all bonuses. The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription. You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out quickly. I ordered it right away, because it was only $7. It is hard not to find $7 in value. Target Beauty Box Back to College: Honor Roll

Target releases seasonal beauty boxes. They range in price from $5 to $10. Unlike some beauty boxes, this is not a subscription. When Target advertised the Back to College boxes, neither really struck me as must-buys. The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription. You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out quickly. I ordered them right away, because they were only $5 each. It is hard not to find $5 in value even when the boxes do not immediately speak to you. Both boxes sold out before I even got my shipping notification. That means waiting to see what comes in everyone’s box is not an effective strategy on obtaining one. If you want to make sure you get a fall box, subscribe to Target emails and look at them when they hit your inbox. Target Beauty Box Summer 2015

See recent Target Beauty Boxes.

Most items inside the box are full-sized, and it is not unusual that one item exceeds the cost of the entire box if you were to buy it separately.  I like that they usually release more than one box at a time giving you a choice or the possibility to get multiples.  Men are not left out either, because they get a box of their own.

When Target advertised the summer boxes, there was one that immediately caught my eye.  The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription.  You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out in a few short days.  By the time I received my box, all but the men’s box sold out.  That means waiting to see what comes in everyone’s box is not an effective strategy on obtaining one.  If you want to make sure you get a fall box, subscribe to Target emails and look them when they hit your inbox.  Of course, I will always alert you when they come back in stock as well.

Influenster Really Influences My Purchases

Influenster is the sampling site that sends free items for you to try.  There is no catch to trying the free items other than the request that you review the item(s) and complete a short exit survey.  For minimal effort, you get items in a free VoxBox selected based on your profile and qualification survey.  Sometimes the items are brand new to you, and those are the items I most look forward to, not that I mind receiving extras of items I already know and love.

My most recent VoxBox gave me the opportunity to try the Dessange Haircare line.  Prior to receiving it in my VoxBox, I had never heard of the brand.  After researching it, I learned it was yet another line in the impressive Loreal brand.  I instantly fell in love with the shampoo and conditioner.  Since testing it, I now see it pop up often.  It is only sold at Target, but luckily for me, that is where I shop the most.  This has been a Cartwheel offer twice, and I’ve even seen a Target coupon pop up.  I also walk into the hair care aisle on certain trips to see what other items Dessange has to offer.

Target Clearance

Target already has great prices, but it also has clearance sections in a several categories.  They are usually on the outside of the aisle and are often very small.  My favorite clearance section is in the beauty department. Don’t blink or you may miss it.  Look for red and white price tags.  Clearance is on it.  Old prices are listed to the left, and new prices are listed to the right.  It is not unusual to find multiple stickers.  Unlike some other stores that sometimes have a cheaper price on stickers as you peel the layers down, you will not find that at Target.  As items are more deeply discounted, the price always goes down.  I always look at the prices on all stickers, and I suggest you do as well.

Most Target items do not have price tags on them, so any time you spot a price tag, that is a huge clue that you have hit the clearance section (or someone dumped a clearance item off in a random place if you find one odd product).  While markdowns on clearance items can happen any day of the week, I’ve read that Wednesday is the most common day for beauty items.  However, Target via Snopes denies that.  How do you know when to buy and when to walk away?
