When Volition launched at Sephora, the company reached out to me to see if I wanted to sample some items. I had never heard of the brand. After a little research, I was eager to try the samples. Volition has skincare innovators submit ideas. Someone at the brand is in charge of selecting contestants to feature on the site. Registered site users vote on which campaigns the brand will fund. This process is great for the innovator, the consumer, and the brand. The innovator gets his/her product to market with the help of the brand. Consumers get a voice in new products they want to see. If the consumer and the innovator are happy, the brand wins with sales. I love this idea and supporting it makes me feel good.
See all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events. I am only doing a general deal article in place of this one for 2019.
As a deal shopper, I like to scroll through the sale section at Sephora a little more than I probably should. Sometimes I come across amazing items in there that are definitely worth sharing. Instead of writing a new article every time I come across a great sale item, I am going to list those items here for 2018. These are the items I feel are worth mentioning. There are too many great deals to list them all so I suggest periodically checking it yourself. If I purchase anything I list, I will let you know and link a review when I can. The date I noticed the item in the sale section is next to it, but it may have appeared sooner than that. If the sale is over by the time you happen upon the article, this at least tells you the item has a history of going on sale. A new sale could pop up in the future if you’re willing to wait on the item.
The 2018 Sephora Rouge Qualification gift has officially been announced. I actually noticed it available online on the 1st when I tested a mock Rouge re-qualification order. That is the fastest I’ve ever seen Sephora prepare the new gift. My local store already has it in stock, but it still has some of the brushes from 2017 available as well. Sephora will allow you to pick up the 2017 gift (even if you’ve qualified for 2018) if it is still available. Only one gift is available per year, so selecting the 2017 gift will disqualify you from also receiving the 2018 gift. Make sure anyone picking this up on your behalf knows your email address.
The 2018 Sephora Birthday Gifts have officially been announced. Remember to check all birthday offers if your big day is approaching. Many retailers offer gifts and others offer a GWP. People with birthdays late in the year can sometimes get the gift for the new year (if they choose). That is because gift redemption is a four-week period that includes the two weeks before your birthday and the two weeks after. You will usually see a pop up banner online and get an email notifying you when your gift is available. Click through either link, and you will be fruitful. Those picking up the gift in-store can give their email address or rewards card to verify eligibility. Make sure anyone picking this up on your behalf knows your email address. Only one birthday gift is available per year so choose the one you like best.
New Perks release in the Rewards Bazaar every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-5pm PST. Smaller Point Perks get covered in my 50 to 500 Point Perk article. There is a pattern to releases. To see the pattern, get tips for obtaining a reward, or view general information regarding the program, read the program overview. You can also see rewards I’ve redeemed and other recent Rewards Bazaar offers. Sephora gives advanced notice of the bigger perks arriving in the Rewards Bazaar within the month.
There is always a chance that offers not listed here could appear if Sephora decides to release any surprise or last-minute offers. Every time I receive an email, I will update this. It is important to note that the offers are not listed in order they get released. Offers near the top of a perk email could be released at the end of the month and offers near the bottom could be released at the beginning of the month. This program is here to stay so there will be 104 release dates a year. Every month, I will share the advertised offerings and write separate articles on any large perks I redeem.

On August 10th, 2017, Sephora launched the Weekly Wow! I often shop the Sephora sale section because the only thing I love more than beauty products is a deal. Most of the items in the sale section are on clearance. Once Sephora sells out of the items it has in stock, those items will never be sold there again. I do have a separate article on standout items in the sale section. The Weekly Wow takes at least five items on Thursday to get deeply discounted up to 50% off until Wednesday of the following week. These items are usually permanent items that will return to full-price the following Thursday. The benefit of this is two-fold. If you fall in love with a product and use it up, you can actually purchase it again (and won’t even mind at full-price since you now love it). You can also review it in time for others to buy it from your recommendation. A lot of the items I buy in the sale section are gone before I realize I love them enough to tell you about them.
A year ago today I decided to create a space where I could share: my thoughts, endless tips (if you’ve read my articles from start to finish, you know what I mean), and most importantly the deals we all strive for. There were ups and downs, and it almost ended as soon as it started. I learned that blogs are a lot of work, so you have to unplug completely during a tragedy. Through all the work I put into each article and page, I wondered if anyone would find it helpful. When I received a comment or email through contact, I learned that some people did find it helpful and others were happy to help me. Some have my passion for deal sharing, most share my passion for deal hunting, and all share my passion for beauty products.

My older son informed me about two months ago that he no longer wants to use baby products. It was really overdue. We opened a Sephora account for him. I knew we would start with drugstore items, but I wanted him to have access to better skincare as needed. Hopefully, we have a few years before he needs mid range things for his skin. In case we do not, his account is ready. Having his own account not only allows him to spend any of the points he earns on his own, but it also qualifies him for a birthday gift. Ulta also offers free birthday gifts, but they only offer feminine gifts. If they ever offer gender neutral or masculine gifts, I will open him an Ulta account as well. Remember to check all birthday offers if your big bag is coming.
I tried not to re-qualify for Sephora VIB Rouge until the end of the year, but I got really close. After getting there on July 12th last year, I’d say November 26th is a huge improvement. Fingers crossed for December 31st next year. During the VIB Rouge sale, I purposely stopped short of qualifying thinking I would make one last purchase when we get our $25 off $50 gift cards. The Black Friday deals were a lot better to me this year than last, so I was not able to pass them up. There were two that instantly caught my eye, which I mentioned in my Black Friday Deals article.
Black Friday is the biggest sale day of the year. Traditionally, it is the day most stores cross from red (losing money) to black (making money). Most cross in style with more deals than we can ever partake in. Participating in the best deals once required you to venture out at 3am. Now, you can get a number of great deals from your house. Cyber Monday will bring deals of its own, but it is not always the case that the best Internet deals come out Monday. Many stores see the same sale both days (assuming inventory lasts through the weekend). Some sales are better on Black Friday, even online.
Some of the best deals available all year come around this time. Are you ready to shop? I’m going to discuss popular offers available now or coming soon. Waiting for the right deal may extend your holiday shopping budget and can prevent you from sacrificing quality for quantity. These are recurring offers, so if you’ve happened upon them for a different year, the dates will be different.

The annual VIB sale which runs from the beginning to the middle of each November is in full swing. This is the first year Sephora decided to exclude Rouge clients from the VIB part of the 20% off sale. I was curious to see whether HOLIDAY20 or VIB20 would work for Rouge clients. Sephora said it would not work, but parameters on new codes can fail. A VIB exclusive code had never been released before, so it was worth checking. The VIB sale runs 11/13/15-11/16/15. The code officially went live at 11:41pm PST on 11/12/15, so it came 19 minutes ahead of schedule for the west coast and was behind schedule for some others. When I tried to enter the codes from my Beauty Insider account (created solely for receiving email offers) and my Rouge account, I got a pop up that you must be a VIB member to redeem.

The annual VIB sale which runs from the beginning to the middle of each November started. By now, all of my fellow Sephora US Rouge shoppers should know our private shopping event to kick off the annual VIB 20% off sale did not happen. Apparently after surveying us about our satisfaction with the last event, Sephora decided to cancel the event instead of making improvements. There were certainly areas I felt could be improved. As I mentioned after attending the August event, my store event could have been better. If my store stepped it up the way some other stores do, I may have enjoyed the events a little more. While I appreciated the Face Mask Friday event added this year (which I now wonder if it was a replacement to the private shopping event we usually have in November), I was not into the jar masks my store opted to go with.
Had Sephora not canceled the event, I may have attended. Guess we will never know one way or the other now. While I took the survey after the August event, I cannot remember what I wrote. I do remember being asked to rank event happenings and am pretty sure I rated brand reps presence lowest. Sorry, I really enjoyed spending time with them in August of 2014, but I found something missing in November of 2014, and August of 2015. Some people reported brand reps would still be visiting the stores, but I did not see any at my store yesterday. Not sure I really missed them either.

There is a two-week period each year where Sephora employees get to send unique 20% discount codes to friends and family. It almost always starts in mid October. This is a real friends and family code meaning recipients are personally selected by an employee to get one. While some people may ask employees who are not friends or family members for codes, many will be unsuccessful. Some employees may offer theirs to strangers and customers they like where others will stick to the original reason for the code, friends and family. We all want to believe that our favorite rep is our friend, but unless the rep offers a code, the relationship is probably not a friendship. A good salesperson can make you feel like a friend though.
I was pleasantly surprised last year when a wonderful Sephora employee asked me to give her my email, so she could send me a unique discount code for 20% off. She’s pretty awesome, but that was above and beyond. Imagine my surprise when I got an email from a different incredible employee this year. Sephora employees usually go above and beyond, but this particular one is incredible. In case she happens upon this post, I will thank her here in addition to the message I already sent. Thanks! If you have not received a code yet, there is still time. The sale ends on the 28th. Assuming you are a VIB or higher, the VIB discount sale will also be coming shortly (probably around the 4th for Rouge and the 5th for VIB), so another 20% discount is coming.
I usually only share deals with you, so this will be an exception. This came from a Sephora store on 08/22/15. There were no promotions, no discounts, and no free gifts with purchase. It is so rare to see me say that. Only once in all my trips to Sephora was I ever brave enough to ask for a sample from a tester. That was for Benefit Big Easy, and I certainly have no regrets trying that gem. After debating back and forth on whether or not to get a Shimmer Brick for some time, I happened into Sephora after lunch. All the shimmer bricks (except one which was quite orange) swatched beautifully, but one blew me away.
See 2018 VIB Promotions.
My Snow White and Belle mirrors are beautiful, so I contemplated buying the other four. When they restocked, I kept telling myself I did not need them all. I really wanted Cinderella though, because she’s classic. After watching Ariel go out of stock, I decided I would purchase Cinderella if she was still available when a good promo code came along. On 10/07/15, someone graciously sent me a message stating the VIBGLOW released a day early. Knowing that code would probably run out of stock quickly, I decided to get the mirror. Stock did run out the same evening. Sephora did send me the official email the next morning after stock returned.
The Free Face Mask Event on 01/26/18 was for all Beauty Insiders.
This was an open-door Sephora VIB Rouge Event. Private, closed-door Rouge Events were canceled after the Points Promotion in August 2015, but they returned in June 2016 to launch new items from the Fall.
The Sephora VIB Rouge program has some great perks. This week I took advantage of two. You may have read about the VIBTOKENS code I used on my recent order, but one that pops up less often is an exclusive Rouge event. While I expect to see an event at the beginning of next month to kick off the 20% discount in the VIB sale, this Face Mask Friday event is a new offering. I like face masks, but I really wanted the free gift Sephora advertised with a $25 purchase, the umbrella. When I arrived at the store, I did not even know what I was going to buy. That umbrella would be mine though!
See the 2018 Give Me More Lip Review
When it comes to favorite sets, no one puts them together like Sephora. The Give Me More Lip Kit usually releases every year in mid September, but it released a little later this year. I have a really hard time passing on favorites that are makeup and skin care related causing me to buy more than I should. My favorite kit each year has is the Sun Safety or the Give Me More Lip. The smaller Give Me Some Lip Kit looked nice as well, but I sat on buying it for too long and missed out. It was cuter than the one I got in 2013 and 2014, so I regret my decision to wait until I had more used than unused lipsticks to buy it.
Every Father’s Day, Sephora releases a promo code that allows you to pick up free samples for a special Dad in your life. We shop all year for ourselves, so it is nice to forgo our usual promo code to get something for him as well. It is usually 3-4 deluxe items with a $25-$35 purchase. Beauty Insiders get three, and VIB clients get four (reduced to 3 for everyone in 2016). This is a promotion I look forward to every year. Buying girly things usually yields girly samples.
My husband is so particular with samples that he usually refuses to try anything he has not researched forever first. Considering I love trying every sample I possibly can, it is safe to say opposites attract. If the items I get for him are completely free, I do not fret when he rejects them. Buying him beauty products is a complete failure unless he specifically tells me what to get him. I did get him an item from SAKS, and he was mostly happy with it.
The Reigning Beauties mirror collection by Disney was released at Sephora on 09/15/15. Stock has gone in and out since the release, but Sephora is restocking the mirrors. If you have not procured yours yet, be sure to sign up for in stock emails and add the mirror of your choice to your Sephora loves list. From this list, you can periodically check stock as well. There are times when demand is high and stock is low that items are out of stock again by the time your in-stock email reaches you, so I adopt a multi-step approach to increase my odds of getting these limited edition items everyone else wants.
When it comes to favorites sets, no one puts them together like Sephora. I have a really hard time passing on favorites that are makeup and skin care related causing me to buy more than I should. The Sephora Favorites Kits have been hit or miss lately. Most products in sets are great even if they are repeats from earlier favorites, but I still cannot wrap my head around the $45 I paid for last year’s Summer Stash for a kit containing nothing but deluxe sizes. It is one I should have passed on.
I purchased Summer Stash on 04/19/14. As recently as June of 2015, they were still trying to move them for $30, which is 33.3% off. That should have told Sephora they priced it too high. As if I did not learn my lesson on the early summer release, I also purchased the Sephora Favorites Summer Crushes kit on 07/12/14 for $45. While the sizes were bigger, it was still a kit of deluxe sizes. To add insult to injury, the price went down online the day after I bought it. While some convinced me that I could get the price matched, I did not even bother trying.
Sephora hosts a variety of chats via Beautytalk with beauty professionals who represent the brands we know and love. I’ve participated in a lot of them for over a year. Who better to ask your brand specific question to than the brand creator or a top executive! On 06/29/15, Drybar and Bumble and bumble each chatted with Beautytalk members for an hour. Although I’ve dabbled with Bumble & Bumble, I do not have a lot of experience with Drybar at all (other than my shower cap, which I adore). The topic was hair, and I struggle with nothing when getting ready more than hair.
I want to find a magical product that reduces or eliminates frizz in a foolproof form. Hair oils can look greasy when they’re not applied perfectly. My hair is seriously a huge frizz ball, but I almost prefer the frizzy look to oily when I apply hair oil improperly. Rubbing it together and applying from mid shaft to ends helps reduce the oily look, but I wish there was something more effective near the base of my head. Though neither Alli Webb nor Mischa answered my specific question, I did find some helpful responses in the insightful questions others asked.
There are so many retailers with fabulous birthday offers. Do not forget to check the birthday offers before your big day arrives. When I learn of a new offer or a change in offers, I update it. Even though I was not really shopping around my birthday, because life in general got in the way, there were a few Birthday gifts I had to pick up. This one from Sephora is completely free if you pick it up in store or requires a purchase to order online.
I give my birthdate upon retailer request. On 03/01/15, offers started coming in. They continued to roll in throughout March with most of them arriving on my actual birthday, March 15th. Remember to save some of your birthday shopping budget for your actual birthday, because so many offers will not come in until then. For the retailers who send the offers after your birthday, they seriously need to step up their game. As I mention on the birthday offer page, some offers are general. Others are unique. If you try to redeem before you get your own unique code, it will not work. Also, check the main retailer page before placing your orders, because the birthday offers are not always the best available offers.
What are those dots on your lipstick? If you’ve asked yourself this question, you’ve probably Googled it looking for more information. Unless your Google skills are superior to mine, your search results probably did not yield a lot of information. Being the deal shopper I am, I often buy lipsticks (and a ton of other items) when they go on sale or have a great GWP offer attached. In August 2014, I bought 12 Kat Von D lipsticks from Sephora when they went on sale marked from $19 to $7. After tax, the lipsticks cost me over $100. I also purchased the Bite Deconstructed Rose Trio for $35 from Sephora on 12/19/14.
I know most of you are thinking those are incredible deals, and they were. That is why I pounced on them. The problem is I do not wear makeup as often as I should with what I buy. In April 2015, I purged and cleaned my makeup. Remember that it is only a good deal when you buy quality items, so price is not king. Only one of the three Bite lipsticks and 2 of the 12 Kat Von D lipsticks are used. That means 12 of my 15 incredible deals are completely untouched. They have not even been swatched. There were a few other lipsticks that had dots but only Kat Von D and Bite Beauty had dots on almost every lipstick within their respective brands.
I love Sephora. When there is a sale, it does not exclude anything. Gift cards cannot be purchased with them, but I do not see that as an exclusion. It is one of the few retailers where you do not have to read a bunch of fine print to plan your sale hauls. Chic Week is the first major sale of the year, and always falls around the beginning of April. Although, there are usually skincare point multipliers in January and perfume point multipliers in February that can boost your points. Every year, usually in April, the store goes on sale. Rouge and VIB clients get 15% off, and Beauty Insiders get 10% off. The sale opened to Rouge members on the 12th, VIB members on the 16th, and Beauty Insiders on the 17th. Rouge members were even invited to a special event at 9am on the 12th.
Although I RSVP’d for the event, I woke up with a terrible headache that day and was unable to attend. I’ve attended events in the past though, so I can write from experience about the event. Brand reps come into the store. Some brands offer special gifts with purchase if you buy from them. They usually have stations to sample the products on shoppers. At a previous Rouge event, I received a mini facial from the Ole Henriksen rep, and my sister received a makeup application from the Smashbox rep. They served pastries, coffee, and water. Once we completed our purchases, we checked out where I received a bag of samples. She was my guest, so she received a few foils. When I attend the next event, I will write a detailed description of everything.
Every year in mid to late May, Sephora releases the Sun Safety Kit. It retails for $32, and $20 of that is donated to the Skin Cancer Foundation. My Dad has skin cancer, so I like the idea of buying something I want while supporting the cause at the same time. My insane stockpile told me I was pretty stocked on sunscreen, so I was ready to pass. I still have a few stragglers from the 2013 kit and half or more from 2014. Luckily, most sunscreens print the expiration date, so I use sunscreen in the order it expires and not when it arrives.
Everyone was waiting impatiently for this release, which was a bit later than 2014. It usually sells out in a few days, but it lasted about a week on and off online. It released and my inner hoarder/deal seeker told me to buy it. And, here we are.
Sephora hosts a variety of chats via Beautytalk with beauty professionals who represent the brands we know and love. I’ve participated in a lot of them for over a year. Who better to ask your brand specific question to than the brand creator or a top executive. Murad and Dr. Dennis Gross are two brands I love, so it was nice to see that Dr. Murad and Dr. Gross themselves were going to chat with us for an hour each. The topic of the chat was summer skin care, which was specifically set up to discuss sun safety.
If you’re like me, you begrudgingly love the sun. It is wonderful to spend a day playing in the sun, but the rays are so damaging to our skin. Sunburns, sun spots, and the long-term wrinkle damage can prematurely age us. On 06/02/15, I was happy to take part in this chat. Although you may have missed the chat, someone could have asked a question similar to one you may have had, so it never hurts to refer back to it. There were a couple of insightful questions that both Dr. Murad and Dr. Gross answered much to my delight as much as the poster of the questions.
Some of you may have already read Beautytalk and How It Pays to be a Member. Well, courtesy of Formula X owner, Kendo, it is paying again. It appears Sephora sent the vast majority of Beautytalk members were gifted a free Formula X The System to Go Set. The set contains 4 0.1oz nail polishes and retails for $16. While this thread clearly demonstrates some are still waiting, I have a good feeling most people will be victorious in receiving a set. Thus far, responders have only reported to receiving Alive, the set with peach-pink polish, and Pyrotechnic, the set with red polish. I am watching the thread to see if anyone receives Thrilling, the set with gray polish.
If you have not received yours yet but have ever created a Beautytalk account, there is a good chance that yours is on the way. The first reports of this lovely gift were dated five days ago, but I only received mine yesterday. With thousands of users, it makes sense that they are staggering mailings. It does not appear closeness to Kendo has anything to do with the timely manner in which you will receive the item either. My package was mailed from 525 Market Street, 15th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105. Although I live in the next state over, people in Canada (yes, Canadians are not excluded) received theirs before I received mine. There was even a user who reported receiving one at her UK address.
How do I get the best deal? This is a question I see often. Sometimes it is directed toward specific retailers. Other times it is more of a general probing. Let’s face it. Getting the best deal can be a lot of work. Have you ever been so proud of yourself for doing your research and locking down an incredible deal only to find out you did not get the best deal available? You are not alone. This has happened to me, too. We live and we learn from overpaying. Then, we get more savvy in the future. There are the tricks everyone knows. Subscribe to the retailer’s updates. Do Google searches for promo codes. Use Rakuten, ShopatHome, Mrrebates, or TopCashBack to get a percentage back on what you order. Of course, you can always visit sites like this one that try to list all known deals in one place. What are you missing though? Can you do anything else?
