Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all of the women in my immediate family 3 month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. My brother-in-law and his 22 year old fiancé have been together since she was 14. She is my sister in every sense of the word. On 04/20/15, I placed a late birthday order for her from my main account. Her actual birthday was almost two months prior, which fell during the period I was out of the beauty spirit. Ordering her gift subscription two weeks after I resumed the gifts helped bring me back full circle, too, because she was the last one I was behind in buying.
I actually had 302 points in my account thanks to reviewing the items from my most recent box and the most recent purchase I made on the main account. Redeeming 300 points for a $30 gift sub meant this was the first (and sadly only) gift subscription that did not cost me anything. A new code 100FORMEwas released that applied to gift subscriptions. The fine print on the code said you would get 100 points with a $30 purchase. It meant 30 points for $30 spent plus a bonus 70. Usually, I am good at reading fine print, but I admit this one tricked me. I did not notice that it only gave me 70 points until after I ordered it and wondered why I only had 72 points.
I love the Ulta Days of Beauty. Twice a year, usually starting in March and September, Ulta has a 21 day sale where select brands or items are deeply discounted for one day only. During the Spring 2014 sale, I went a little overboard buying things. Spring 2015 went better. It helped that the sale this year was not as impressive as last, but there were still some great deals. There are also 21 day Love Your Hair Events twice a year, which I will cover later. Check all offers on the special event page.
I highly recommend studying the brochure, which is posted online before the sale. UltaMate members should also get a physical copy in the mail. It is a good idea to plan your purchases ahead of time, so you are ready to strike the moment the deal releases. Ulta runs on Central time, so daily steals are available right at 10pm PST. That usually means steals from the previous day disappear at 10pm, so do not plan to place an order right before bed time if you’re on the West Coast. While the deals have run a little over, Ulta has also cut them off right on time. Some deals sell out quickly, so waiting may not work anyway. The best deals are usually gone when you wake up in the morning from people who started shopping right as the day switched over.
