Welcome to the place where I go over every Birchbox deal, sale, discount, promo code, GWP, etc worth mentioning. If you are considering a Birchbox subscription, see Birchbox Start-Up Offers. Those still on the fence can read my comparison of all my 2018 Sephora Play Boxes against all my 2018 Birchboxes. Anyone looking for deals on shop purchases should keep reading. Birchbox releases a lot of promotions each year, and I usually only add ones that stick around for a while to my Birchbox Deals Page. Check my Deals Page for older offers that are still technically valid, because some of the older discount codes never really go away. I also go over the mystery sample pack options there, which never go away.
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 when Grover Cleveland (some dispute giving him credit) declared we needed an annual celebration of workers and their achievements. This was during the height of the Industrial Revolution, so employees were really making an impact on the economy. It was not uncommon for workers to endure 12 hour shifts, seven days a week. No one was immune, not even children. Since weekends did not exist for these workers, Labor Day was a welcome and extremely brief reprieve for our ancestors who brought us into a new millennium. Though must of us do not have the work ethic of our forefathers, and thank goodness for that because there is more to life than earning money, Labor Day is still an important part of our society.
Ulta Beauty launched another new promotion for 2018 in February. This promotion, called Skinfatuation, centers around skin trends. It teamed with beauty influencer Dani from CoffeeBreakwithDani to go over some of Ulta’s favorites within the given category. Every month, she talks about the items on her Youtube channel. Subscribers can win a box full of the items she goes over so it is definitely worth watching. Even though I despise coffee, I love Dani. Her upbeat but not over the top persona is what I like the most about her. As a regular subscriber of hers, I saw the new promotion the day it launched. There was a promotion to try the masks she suggested in February as well so it looks like we might get monthly offers.
I track all Platinum Beauty Bag offers, but I also review the ones I redeem. This is a review of the February 2018 bag, which is still available for free to Platinum and Diamond members with a $150 online purchase. While the beauty bags include mostly deluxe samples, they do at times include full-size items and foils. There are no foils in this one, but there are 4 full-size items. Ulta claims this has a $276 value. Whenever there are errors in Ulta’s list (as there are here), I will only correct them in review articles (like this one). The tracking article will always have Ulta’s original list.
If you have not already joined the Neiman Marcus Beauty Cue, I highly recommend you do. It costs nothing to join. You simply enter your email address, and your registration is complete. Every month, Neiman Marcus introduces a new Beauty Cue offer. This is a GWP that works when you buy at least $50 of beauty products. The gifts range from a single deluxe item to a set of deluxe items. A promotion code is required to receive the gift, and the code changes each month. Neiman Marcus will email members the code each month, but I also list them on my Neiman Marcus Deals page. Only those who registered before each gift gets announced can successfully enter the promo code after signing into their account. Anyone else who tries will get an error message. That means if you stumbled upon this article today and are not already registered, you cannot get the Cue this month. Register today and you will be eligible for the next offer.
There is a new Platinum Beauty Bag today. Every time Ulta puts out a Platinum Beauty Bag in 2018, I will update this article. A Platinum Beauty bag is a gift with purchase only available to Platinum or Diamond members. This bag full of deluxe and full-sized items is usually available with a $125 or $150 purchase. The bag (which will be different each time) gets released 3-4 times per year. Whenever I redeem one, I will write a separate article and link it to the offer below. Since I did not write a 2017 article, I am listing the 2017 offers below. Tracking when the 2017 offers arrived helps paint a picture of when the 2018 offers may arrive, because they are usually not far off each year. Other Platinum Perks tracked in a different article. Sign into your Platinum account, add the bag, purchase enough products to reach the minimum threshold for the bag, and the cost of the bag will drop to zero.
Ulta sends gift with any purchase offers to select UltaMate members throughout the year. Large GWP bags have a dedicated article and are almost never targeted (outside of a group, like Platinum bags or affiliate bags). These gifts with purchase are targeted offers (offers sent to only select members). At any given time, there are anywhere from 0 to 4 available offers. It is certainly possible there are more than 4 at a time, but 4 is the most I’ve ever seen. They will almost never appear in the general GWP section or available offers section for select affiliates. In other words, the only way to take advantage of these offers is to receive them yourself or receive them from someone who received the offers. No one gets all offers, and people who do not get emails never get any. I want to share all the offers I am aware of here. If you receive any I do not, please let me know, and I can add them.
I track all Sephora offers, and this article covers all Sephora Sample Bags for 2018. Whenever Sephora releases a sample bag as a GWP, I will list it below. If I redeem any of these bags, I will write a separate article with a review and link the article next to the offer. Bags known to repeat each year get notated, and I will also note if the offer is a change from the previous year. This article tracks offers to note changes over time. These bags are available for all rewards members in the Beauty Insider program unless otherwise specified. Items are online only unless otherwise specified. Bags are in reverse chronological order.
How do you get the best deal at Beauty.com and Drugstore.com? Deal stacking at Beauty.com is less complicated, but it is possible at Drugstore.com with a little effort. I’ve never seen a guide for getting the best deal for either retailer (even though one may exist). Putting everything I can think of in one place to make deal shopping a little easier seemed like a great idea, because the site is not the easiest to navigate and does not make deal searching easy. A lot of deals are link activated, and the links are temperamental. Dealing with these temperamental links is challenging, but there are ways around it. There are always new things to learn, so I will edit this any time I discover something new. Details scare some people. If you’re scared of detail, click that little X and back out now. Do not say I did not warn you!
How do I condense the article on tips for getting the best deal when shopping at Ulta when it has all the best offers? I won’t. Ulta encourages deal stacking, so there are a lot of things to cover. Some deals are a little harder to find, because it rewards our digging efforts with a larger bounty. I’m half-joking. Most people will place orders without putting too much effort into finding a deal, and Ulta knows this. For those willing to do the research and put in the time, Ulta gives us the deals we need to place an order. If you’ve mastered the art of deal (like Tony Schwartz), I’d love if you can think of anything else. There are always new things to learn, so I will edit this if I discover something new. I’ve seen guides to getting the best deal at Ulta before, but they’re not usually comprehensive and miss many important tips. Details scare some people. If you’re scared of detail, click that little X and back out now. Do not say I did not warn you!
When it comes to drugstore makeup, I do not really buy it. I am not naive enough to think there are no quality items of the drugstore variety, but I find it harder to sample or swatch these items. Many of the items I buy are the direct result of sampling or swatching. If I really trust a brand, I will buy something without sampling or swatching it. My product research must yield excellent results, because I very rarely make impulse purchases. As I never return products to the stores unless they arrive damaged, I try to only purchase things I know I will like. Someone in my life can take items that failed with me off my hands, so I never feel compelled to return anything. A failed product for one person can be an HG product to another one. Who knows how many hidden gems I am missing out on by refusing to buy things I have not researched, swatched or sampled?
Whenever I get a chance to sample a drugstore product through a subscription box, foil or GWP, I try to accept the opportunity with arms wide open. Sample Society sent me a Loreal Extraordinaire ColourRiche Lipcolour in my July 2014 box, which I loved. When Target released its Beauty box containing that item, I ordered it on 10-20-14. The Target Beauty Box is not a subscription box. It is a one time box that ranges in cost from $5-$10 with free shipping. This one was $7. The value of the items always exceed the cost you pay, so it is a good deal if the items interest you. I like that you get to see the items before making a purchase decision.
Sadly, I received the exact same color I had already received in the Sample Society box. Considering how many color possibilities there were, I thought receiving the same color was funny. I sent the duplicate one onto a friend (and I need to follow up for the sake of this article to see if she liked it). Due to the fact that I have never finished a lipstick or gloss, I had no desire to hang onto a backup. All of the Target Beauty Boxes are out of stock, but I will let you know when they come back and what will be inside. Birchbox sent me an amazing sample of a product called Egyptian Magic in my June 2014 box. This is an oil based cream that works wonders on my boys’ eczema patches. After one application, the patches start improving. By the third application, the dry patches are gone. This product heals their eczema better than their prescription. The ingredients are eczema friendly without the chemicals in the prescription. It is without a doubt one of the favorite items I have ever found in one of my subscription boxes and something I plan on repurchasing often. I was going to order this product anyway, when I saw the following offer from Drugstore.com.
With a $75 purchase from Drugstore.com, all of the items listed and pictured below are free. Other than the Strivectin, Sally Hansen and the Nicole by OPI, I own zero of these brands. I love trying new things, so I knew this would be a great GWP for me. Luckily for me, Drugstore.com carries Egyptian Magic. I just needed to find a few more things to buy. It is winter, and my skin is extremely dry. Thus, I can never have too many skin moisturizers.
With my boys having eczema, they use moisturizers after each shower as well. Rather than buying our usual Aveeno or Eurcerin, I decided to try some brands that would be new to us. Cetaphil and CeraVe are highly rated. I’ve done my research and know they will be safe for my boys. The other lotion is vanilla scented, so I will not allow the boys to use that one. It was pretty cheap, so I will have no problem tossing it or giving it to someone else if I hate it.
The GWP was supposed to include 29 items, including the tote bag. Sadly, mine was missing the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum, so I only received 28 items. Luckily, according to the picture and the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum (which I received), it was just a foil. If I had to be missing a foil, I am glad it was one that is probably very similar to another. Thus, I do not feel like I am missing much. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Real Techniques makeup brushes, so I am the most excited to try that. This year, I would like to do my nails more regularly, so the nail pen could be a very awesome treat. Strivectin is a product I already know and love. I thought I was getting a sample elsewhere and just found out I am not.
The items I received were: Iman Deja Vu Lip Kit, L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Pin-Up, Elnglish Laundry Arrogant, Real Techniques Shading Brush, Boots No 7 Protect Intense Advanced Serum, Hydroxatone Anti-Aging BB Cream in Medium, MDSolarSciences Mineral Beauty Balm, Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Night Cream, Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser Foaming Fomula, Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick Bright Berry 40, Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Cloths, Prestige Primed & Ready Eye Primer, StriVectin SD Advanced Intensive Concentrate for wrinkles and strech marks, Nexxus Color Assure 3-Step Regimen, Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray, Toni & Guy Classic Shine Gloss Serum, Toni & Guy Cleanse Shampoo for Damaged Hair, Toni & Guy Nourish Conditioner for Damaged Hair, Tresemme Keratin Smooth 7 Day System, Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes, Nicole by OPI Cinna Man of My Dreams, Rimmel Stay Glossy 6 Hour Lipgloss All Night Long, Rimmel ScandalEyes Retroglam Mascara, Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat, Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Punch Drunk, and Tom’s of Maine Lip Shimmer.
I am not swatching the lip products, because I am unsure how many items I plan to keep. If I end up using them, I will add swatches and looks.
The Nicole by OPI Cinna Man of my dreams is a beautiful cinnamon color. Compare this to my other salmon and wine polishes.
The Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat is very matte with a whitish tint. Compare it to my other nail treatments, base coats, and top coats.
Sally Hansen Punch Drunk is a purplish-pink. Compare it to my other pink polishes.
I am pretty excited about receiving that one here as well. This Drugstore.com offer is available through the 23rd and only works with Drugstore.com beauty items, so you cannot load non beauty items or Beauty.com items into your cart. If you are unsure what items qualify, just play around with your cart. I tried loading vitamins and an electric toothbrush, which did not work.
Remember to check all Beauty.com and/or Drugstore.com offers before placing an online order. You can only use one promo link per order, but banner offers (they pop-up at times when you’re browsing on the site), and promo codes (uncommon) usually combine with one another. There are some exceptions. See other Drugstore.com articles. Read Tips For Getting the Best Deal at Beauty.com or Drugstore.com.View my main page for the guide map to the site and deeper deal exploration.
