It’s time for my February 2019 Sephora Play Box review. Play! by Sephora is a subscription box that offers five deluxe beauty samples and a bonus foil packet or perfume vial for $10 a month plus tax. Shipping is free. Only items sold at Sephora come inside the Play! box so most items are from well-known, high-end brands. While Sephora does carry a few low-end and luxury brands, they do not really appear in the subscription boxes. There is not a traditional rewards program with this box so you cannot get points for referring friends or writing reviews. It does award 10 Beauty Insider points to Beauty Insiders, 12.5 points to VIB members, and 15 points to VIB Rouge members. This Play! box also applies $10 toward your purchase minimum to maintain your Beauty Insider status. Visit my Sephora page for descriptions on points and status. The $10 charge processes immediately for new subscribers and from the 1st through the 4th for succeeding months. Boxes usually ship from the 11th through the 15th.

Beauty Insider Appreciation Week runs from September 10th through September 17th. During the event, Beauty Insiders get 2x points, VIB members get 3x points, and Rouge members get 4x points. This event usually takes place in August, but Sephora pushed it back this year to iron out the details of the Rewards Bazaar. Hopefully, nice items enter the Rewards Bazaar, so the point multipliers for this event get put to great use. It officially kicked off this morning with a private VIB Rouge Event, which I wrote about separately. Sephora always offers a VIB Appreciation Bag for VIB and Rouge clients during the event. There are two options this year, but they share a one time use code. Members can choose the one they prefer (if they arrive before one runs out of stock). These are the same bags handed out at the VIB Rouge event this morning, so it is possible Rouge members who attended the event can get both bags.
2016 marks the Year of the Monkey. As a Monkey, I wanted to collect some pieces. This is the first time I’ve been interested in makeup during my year. Nordstrom carries a couple of pieces I want, but I traded for one of them. The item I purchased here, while technically for The Year of The Monkey, does not have an actual monkey on it. I love the beautiful, limited edition gold packaging though. My desire to purchase something that represents the Chinese Zodiac happened to coincide with the Lunar New Year. To celebrate the switch, Nordstrom offered a special gift with purchase I was able to partake in as well.
The 2016 Sephora Birthday Gifts and Rouge Qualification gifts have officially been announced. Remember to check all birthday offers if your big day is approaching. People with birthdays late in the year can sometimes get the gift for the new year (if they choose). That is because gift redemption is a four-week period that includes the two weeks before your birthday and the two weeks after. You will usually see a pop up banner online or get an email notifying of when your gift is available. Click through either link, and you will be fruitful.

My Snow White and Belle mirrors are beautiful, so I contemplated buying the other four. When they restocked, I kept telling myself I did not need them all. I really wanted Cinderella though, because she’s classic. After watching Ariel go out of stock, I decided I would purchase Cinderella if she was still available when a good promo code came along. On 10/07/15, someone graciously sent me a message stating the VIBGLOW released a day early. Knowing that code would probably run out of stock quickly, I decided to get the mirror. Stock did run out the same evening. Sephora did send me the official email the next morning after stock returned.
The beginning of the new month to me always represents closing out the previous month. I am going to post August’s empties now and its FabuFinds later today. Now that I am all caught up, I will post the September Empties and Fabufinds on October 1st as scheduled. There is something so fulfilling about seeing something empty even though that sometimes mean you have to go out and buy more (assuming you do not already have backups).
I will give you a mini review on each item. I’ll tell you the items I love and will repurchase. If I like or am indifferent to an item, I will not rush out to repurchase, but I would be willing to use or try it again. Lastly, I will present the items that are not for me. Generally, I will not use these any more in the future. If they’re really awful to me, I always hope I can find someone else who may actually like them. Thus, I will try to find someone to give duplicates to. For the items that I really love, I will do a separate product spotlight on them at some point to discuss them in more detail.

My favorite point multiplier is always the one good toward any purchase offered every year at the beginning of August. This is the kickoff to Beauty Insider Appreciation Week. The event gives 4x points to Rouge members, 3x points to VIB members, and 2x points to Beauty Insiders. I woke up with a terrible headache the day of the last Beauty Before Brunch event in April, so I missed Sephora’s Rouge Event for Chic Week. My sister and I had a decent time at the event hosted at Town Center last August, but I found the Summerlin November event lackluster. The biggest difference in the two events was we took part in services offered from brand reps who arrived in August, but I opted out in November. She partook in makeup from Smashbox and promptly bought some items. I partook in a mini facial from Ole Henriksen, and they got me as well. Maybe, I would partake again and see if it warmed me to the event.
