Birchbox July 2019 Review of Sample Choice Plus Subscription Box Offers

My July 2019 Birchbox review is ready. Birchbox subscriptions get customized to your beauty profile. All boxes are a mixture of haircare, makeup, and skincare. There are times when body care items pop up, and you can select an option to receive no more than 6 fragrance vials a year in your profile. You could get a box with 2 haircare items, 2 makeup items, and 1 skincare item or any similar variety, but you will rarely see more than 2 items from any category unless the third is a foil. If you are looking for a box that is mostly makeup or mostly skincare, this is not it. Those looking for a well-rounded sample box may enjoy this subscription.

Annual Birchbox Review

This is my July 2019 Birchbox review, but you can see a synopsis of a year of Sephora Play Box reviews vs a year of Birchbox reviews. Every year, I review my $10 boxes (for me at least) against each other, so I can declare the annual winner. This is also helpful for those who would like to see a year of reviews for either box in one place. Birchbox did raise its prices for select members, but it is still $10 for me. For those who are not ACES on the $10 plan, I will consider that when I do the annual comparison for 2019.

About the Birchbox Subscription

The $10-$15 charge processes immediately for new subscribers and on the 1st in succeeding months. Boxes usually ship from the 8th through the 12th. At the end of every month (actual date varies), Birchbox will email an option to select a sample (from a choice of 3-5 items), or the featured box where you know all samples up front. Those who respond to that email can also opt out of one type of sample. If you want a sample choice and the featured box, I suggest making a choice and purchasing the featured box separately. Subscribers can review 5 samples for 10 points each once during the lifetime of the account. Those who pay full-price for their subscriptions up front get points to use toward shop purchases. People who use a discount code on up front subscriptions will not get points. No one on a month-to-month plan gets points for the subscription either. The amount spent for the subscription goes toward the $300 annual minimum to achieve Aces status.

July 2019 Birchbox Theme

Birchbox makes a custom box design for each month. The lemon and orange design does give me summer vibes.

The first thing you normally see when you open a Birchbox is a product card.

The back of the card goes over the theme, love, you. It mentions that self care is different for everyone, and it is important for all. It wants us to get over what we’re self conscious about and embrace them.

Contents are loose inside the box with a single piece of black foam at the bottom and a single sheet of tissue paper encircling the items. The tissue does seem to help the items from moving around a lot.

July 2019 Birchbox Sample Choices

The three items to choose from were: Balance Me Congested Skin SerumMAC Cosmetics Lipglass Prrr, or Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser. There were four options for the curated boxes. Curated Box 1- Ingredient Conscious includes: Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30Davines SU Hair & Body WashW3LL PEOPLE Bio Bronzer Loose PowderBeautaniq Beauty Blush SerumDERMA E Overnight Peel with AHAs, and Lavanila The Healthy Fragrance Pure Vanilla Eau de Parfum. Curated Box 2- Customer Favorites includes: R+Co ANALOG Cleansing Foam ConditionerMAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream, Balance Me Congested Skin SerumOribe Dry Texturizing Spray, and Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow. Curated Box 3- Pop of Color includes: Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gelbutter LONDON Glazen Eye GlossGrande Cosmetics Grande MascaraDr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Color Correcting TreatmentDavines MINU Illuminating ShampooDavines MINU Illuminating Conditioner, and Davines MINU Hair Serum. Curated Box 4- Low Effort, High Impact includes: COOLA® Dawn Patrol™ Classic Primer SPF 30Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara 4DARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip BalmBumble and bumble. Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler FineNumber 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect, and invisibobble® POWER. Subscribers can always purchase these featured boxes separately for $15 if they want that and a sample choice. Everyone else can purchase a featured box for $20. There was also an option to Swap Your Box For a Full-Size Set Love of Color Luminous Lia Shine Trio in Glow, Beam, and Glisten.

Some members were given the option to swap the box for Birchbox Loyalty points. I get 1.3 points per dollar as an Ace, so I would never pay $10 for 100 points. That is equivalent of 1 point per dollar.

My choice was the MAC Lipglass.

My July 2019 Birchbox Subscription Review

My July 2019 Birchbox review is from box version 65403394. It has 2 skincare products, two makeup products, one hair product, and one makeup-skincare hybrid.

The 0.08oz MAC Cosmetics Lipglass Prrr is worth $14. I prefer other formulas over this one, because it is a little sticky. It is not too sticky though, so I do not mind it.

This pinky-peach color is nice. It will look great this summer.

The 0.5oz Georgette Klinger Volcanic Mineral Scrub is worth $3.57. This seems interesting. I’ve never used an ash scrub.

The Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Invisible+ set of 6 is worth $2.77. I still get acne, so I like having these patches on hand. I’ve purchased these in the past. My nieces and nephews stole most of them, but I did like it. There is a brand I like more than this one, but I will use these (if they’re not stolen from me).

The 0.1oz Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara 4D is worth $14. This is a mascara I have not tried yet, so I will probably hold onto it. My Sephora Box preview showed this but then it changed. Glad I got one anyway.

The 0.16oz Dr. Jart+ V7™ Priming Moisturizer is worth $4.54. I’ve been getting into priming moisturizers, because I find them even more hydrating than a hydrating primer. My skin can always use the extra boost. This is one I have not tried yet.

The 0.85oz Alterna CAVIAR Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair Leave-In Heat Protection Spray is worth $6.48. This is a product I’ve wanted to try. It made me really happy to see it.

Was my July 2019 Birchbox worth it?

The July 2019 Birchbox has a $45.36 value. That brings the value for the average box in 2019 to $46.33. This is the first box since the price increase in April that does not have any full-size products. It also slightly brought down the average value for the year. I wish the trend with full-size products would have continued, because one extra sample is not enough to justify the price increase. There was also a curated box with only five products even though we are now promised six. That makes me wonder if there were any random boxes with less than six items.

My personal value is $45.36, because I will probably keep everything in the box. That makes it a successful box for me. A six for six hit on products I want to try does not happen often. Only one item of the six is a repeat to my collection. Because that is an item I like, I never mind getting more of it. There is nothing overly exciting in here other than the hair product, but I am still happy with this box.

What are your thoughts on my July 2019 Birchbox review? Do you think it is better than past boxes so far? Let me know below. If your purchase is over $25 (longer subscriptions or purchasing something from the shop with the subscription), you can pick a free item from the bonus shop if you do not use a subscription start-up offer or discount code, which I cover on my Birchbox Deals Page. Some discount codes on that page will not work on subscriptions, but I will post any that work on my Birchbox Subscription Deals Page. You can always add a free two piece sample pack when spending $35, because it combines with any promo code. Tips For Getting the Best Deal lays out all the ways I know to save money at Birchbox. Product reviews do not always make it into the haul article, but you can always type the product into the search bar to see if I’ve mentioned it or reviewed it elsewhere. Causebox Summer 2019 Review and a $10 Off Coupon Code

My Summer 2019 Causebox review is ready. Yes, I am reviewing it after it is no longer available for purchase. That is my bad, because I waited too long to order it. I did also order the Summer 2019 Welcome box and will review that as soon as it arrives. It seems like the Summer 2019 Causebox sold out on the 11th of July and my box arrived the next day. Causebox includes a mix of: exclusive, ethically made products from a wide range of items. They are always full-sized, and the value of the box will always be over $200. There are 6-8 full size items in every box. Each item is cruelty free, vegan whenever possible, and always socially conscious. This is a quarterly subscription program. There is one box per season. Welcome boxes are usually available between seasons. Those who sign up between seasonal boxes will get a welcome box.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Editor’s Box Review Plus The Coupon Code to Start With This Box

My FabFitFun Summer 2019 Editor’s Box review is coming. I ordered my first box today, and I ordered my second box on July 18th. The shop reopened on the 16th as planned, but the Editor’s Box was not available for purchase until late in the day on the 17th. Members can now select all five options when they purchase from the shop, so we get more choices than the two category options we received in the Edit Sale. After making the calculated decision to pass on paying $49.99 for two options in the Edit Sale, I paid $39.99 for three options today when I got $10 off using the promo code COOL. That is the code designated for the Summer Editor’s Box. Please note that the Summer 2019 Box is still in stock. If you use any code other than COOLyou will start with a summer box. Well, I also paid $10 for an extra customization in category one, so it was like I got a free item and an extra pick for the same $49.99. I did pay the full $49.99 on the 18th for a second box, so I could make all five choices without opening a second annual subscription.

Sephora Play! June 2019 Review – Destination Beauty Subscription Box

It’s time for my Sephora Play June 2019 review. Play! by Sephora is a subscription box that offers five deluxe beauty samples and a bonus foil packet or perfume vial for $10 a month plus tax. Shipping is free. Only items sold at Sephora come inside the Play! box so most items are from well-known, high-end brands. While Sephora does carry a few low-end and luxury brands, they do not really appear in the subscription boxes. There is not a traditional rewards program with this box so you cannot get points for referring friends or writing reviews. It does award 10 Beauty Insider points to Beauty Insiders, 12.5 points to VIB members, and 15 points to VIB Rouge members. This Play! box also applies $10 toward your purchase minimum to maintain your Beauty Insider status. Visit my Sephora page for descriptions on points and status. The $10 charge processes immediately for new subscribers and from the 1st through the 4th for succeeding months. Boxes usually ship from the 11th through the 15th.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Starter Box Review

I am here to share the latest 2019 FabFitFun Starter Box Review. This is the third variation I’ve reviewed this year. The photos and products belong to one of the people I sent a Starter Box to. Two of these are products I love, and I think the other two look nice. I have three starter boxes and will give them to the first three requests I see. Keep reading to see what you might get or to get some questions answered if you’ve received an invitation elsewhere. Whenever I get these invites, the person I send the box to gets it for free if s/he pays the $5 shipping charge. Anyone who does not cancel will automatically move to a seasonal subscription on the 21st day after the $5 gets charged. Either a Seasonal box (if there are any left) or an Editor’s box would start the official subscription.

Birchbox June 2019 Review of Curated Box Making Waves and a Sample Choice Plus Subscription Box Offers

I have two June 2019 Birchbox reviews, and I am placing both in this article. Once I learned of the price increase, I purchased two extra three month subscriptions. That way I could write this article comparing more new Birchbox offerings to the Allure Beauty Box. My three month subscriptions on my second and third boxes ended in May, so I expected to return to just my main box for June. When I wrote in to cancel Box two and three, Birchbox told me I still had one more left on subscription two. Considering I paid for the same term on the same day, I knew that was a mistake. If Birchbox wanted to send me a free box, I am not going to argue though. So, I paid for Box One, but I did not pay for Box Two. This is also the last time I will have Box Two.

Is Birchbox Really Worth Up to $15 – My Direct Comparison Between the New and Old Boxes and Its Newest Competitor, the Allure Beauty Box

When Birchbox moved to its new tiered pricing structure on March 25 of 2019, it went into direct competition with the Allure Beauty Box. New month-to-month subscribers could choose to spend $15 with Allure Beauty Box or $15 with Birchbox. With the price increase Birchbox promised an extra sample, better brands, more choices, faster shipping, and more. I’m here to review my experience from before the change and since to change to let you know if it is worth it at $15 or if you should spend your $15 with Allure Beauty Box instead. Of course, you can always stick with a $10 box from Ipsy or Sephora Play (while you can, because these could also get increased).

Walmart Beauty Box Spring 2019 Review – Trendsetter Subscription Box

The Walmart Beauty Box releases once per season, and my Spring 2019 Walmart Beauty Box review is below. This is a subscription box that gives you the items for free as long as you pay $5 for the shipping. Your first $5 charges when you subscribe, and a box from the current season will ship to you within a few weeks. Future boxes will incur the $5 charge as the box ships. While this box gets released each season, the release date always varies. Walmart will email you before it releases to remind you to update your account information. Sometimes, it sends boxes right after you update. Other times, it will tell email you to update your account, then still wait weeks to ship your box.

FabFitFun For Him II Edition Review- Summer 2019 FabFitFun Men’s Box

I am here to bring you the Summer 2019 FabFitFun Men’s Box review. It is the Summer 2019 FabFitFun for Him II Edition. When the Summer 2019 add-ons opened up, this was a purchase option for $49.99. That gave me the opportunity to get my husband another FabFitFun box of his own. His first was the Winter 2018/2019 Men’s Gift Box. I decided to show the contents to him before purchasing it instead of surprising him, because there were a couple of things I was unsure of. After looking, he assured me that he would probably try everything but the wallet. He already loves the wallet he owns. With 8 items inside, I figured it was still worth the purchase if he tried seven. Besides, my 12-year-old wanted a new wallet. Everything inside this set would stay in the family making it a great purchase decision. This is the second FabFitFun for Men Box, so I assume that means the first one went well. Hopefully, more follow.

Birchbox May 2019 Review of Curated Box 2, The Skincare Made Easy Kit, and a Sample Choice Plus Subscription Box Offers

I have three May 2019 Birchbox reviews, and I am placing all three in this article. After I learned about the new Birchbox pricing structure, I decided to purchase two more subscriptions before the price went up. Since I wanted to see if the new boxes are really better than the old boxes, I wanted to have a few each month for comparison. It is easy to get one lucky box. If you get three out of three, it is far more likely actual improvement is taking place. In typical studies, you usually need a sample size of at least 30. As much as I love experiments and blogging, I was not ordering 30 boxes!

Here’s hoping mine does, because you get a rotating gift if someone signs up using your link. Boxes usually ship in the third week of the month, and the charge for the box gets processed the day the box ships. New subscribers get charged the day they subscribe.

New Allure Beauty Box Subscriber Offers

Allure Beauty Box March 2019 Subscription Box Review – Get Your First Box for $10 and a Welcome Gift

I am here to bring you my Allure Beauty Box March 2019 review, because I subscribed again. That’s right, March. Keep reading and I will show you the incredible journey this box went on before it finally reached me. My last Allure Beauty Box was from March 2018. Let’s quickly go over why I decided to re-subscribe. It was not that I saw the March box and thought I need to have that, although the La Mer gift for re-joining did not hurt. Well, it actually did hurt, because I assumed it would be the normal size. Turns out it was tiny. You will not find pictures below, because I gave it away before I even bothered photographing it. Yes, I gave it away, because it is not much for me. It is still big enough for someone who has not tried it yet to use it 2-3 times!

FabFitFun 2019 Starter Box Review – The New Box For April

There is a (new) Summer version of the 2019 FabFitFun starter box. Click that link for the review.

I am here for the latest 2019 FabFitFun Starter Box Review. This is the second variation I’ve reviewed this year. The photos and products belong to one of the people I sent a Starter Box to. Two of these are products I love, and I think the other two look amazing. I do not have any starter boxes, but I will update this if that changes.

FabFitFun Spring 2019 Edit Sale Haul Review

My FabFitFun Spring 2019 Edit Sale Haul Review is ready. There is an event between the seasonal subscription boxes called the FabFitFun Edit Sale. This is a subscriber only event where FabFitFun members can shop for items discounted 25%-70% off. For those who love add-ons, this is akin to purchasing add-ons without a subscription box. It also means subscribers who are not interested in any items or need a break for financial reasons can just sit this out. For mainland US subscribers who choose to shop, they get free shipping with a $25 purchase. Like add-ons, you add the items you want to your cart throughout the sale and only pay for the ones that are still in your cart once the event wraps. The event runs from April 2nd through April 9th, 2019 and everyone gets charged for their items on April 10th.

FabFitFun Spring 2019 Editor’s Box Review and a Subscription Box Offer

My FabFitFun Spring Editor’s 2019 Box review is ready. Spoiler alert, I love it so much that I purchased two. FabFitFun released its 2019 Spring Editor’s Box in the Edit Sale (which starts tomorrow). This usually pops up in the shop after the Edit Sale wraps, so I appreciated the opportunity to buy it with the options I wanted without waiting for the Edit Sale to wrap first. I ordered mine today. The Spring 2019 FabFitFun Box is still available for purchase, so new members will likely start with that box. Existing members can purchase the Spring 2019 FabFitFun Editor’s Box, as I did, for $49.99 (each). These boxes arrived on the 11th, which was only 10 days after I ordered them.

Birchbox Introduced A New Tier Pricing Structure – Members Will Now Pay $10, $12, $12.50, $13, $14, or $15 Based on Their Status and Plan – How Does This Increase Affect You?

Birchbox announced a new tier pricing structure, which effectively means it raised the price on most members. Only select members will get the $10 pricing it launched with. What added benefits are we getting for the price increase? When Birchbox launched in September 2010, and it was a pioneer in the beauty subscription box industry. Members could get a box of 4-5 beauty products to sample for $10 a month. The concept was simple. Let users get samples stress free. There was no need to go into a store to ask for things, because Birchbox tailored the samples to the user’s profile. A subscription box revolution emerged in the years that followed, because many saw the success Birchbox had and wanted to capitalize while the market was still hot. While Birchbox only sold 12 products when it launched, the intent was always to encourage customers to purchase the full-size of the samples they fell in love with. It wanted to build its subscription program, so it could grow its online store.

Birchbox March 2019 Curated Box Review and Subscription Box Offers

I’ve already reviewed my March 2019 Birchbox subscription, but I decided to purchase a featured box separately. This is my review on the March 2019 curated box. Anyone can purchase this curated box for $15, but subscribers can purchase it for $10. It will automatically discount the charge from $15 to $10 once you add it to your cart on an account with an active subscription. That is the cost of our regular subscription, so I recommend this when you want the featured box and a sample choice. Birchbox gives at least 5 deluxe beauty samples each month for $10, but there are 6 in the curated 2019 March Birchbox. See my March 2019 subscription review to view my sample choice and the other items I got with it.

Birchbox March 2019 Review and Subscription Box Offers

It’s time for my March 2019 Birchbox review! Birchbox gives at least 5 deluxe beauty samples each month for $10, and I received 5 in my 2019 March Birchbox. Some boxes have more than 5, but anything over 5 is usually a foil. Boxes get customized to your beauty profile, and you can opt out of one type of sample per box during sample choice.

Sephora Play! February 2019 Review – Mix Your Love Potion Subscription Box

It’s time for my February 2019 Sephora Play Box review. Play! by Sephora is a subscription box that offers five deluxe beauty samples and a bonus foil packet or perfume vial for $10 a month plus tax.

The Julep Subscription Box Program Canceled Effective February 15th, 2019 But Legacy Maven Benefits Continue

When I received the email that the Julep Maven subscription program ended on February 15, 2019, I was sad. I knew it was possible when I reviewed my February 2019 Julep Maven Box and even mentioned it in that article, but I had hope that everything would work out. Sadly, the subscription program is gone. Julep was one of the few subscription boxes that allowed members to select all items that went inside the box, and all the items were full-size. Getting the items for a fraction of the price of purchasing them for the shop placed inside the box made the boxes very valuable. Allowing members to skip boxes made it even more desirable. It really was ahead of its time. Who knows, maybe it can return someday, and I will be ready to subscribe again if it has the same benefits it had before.

Birchbox February 2019 Review and Subscription Box Offers

It’s time for my February 2019 Birchbox review! Birchbox gives at least 5 deluxe beauty samples each month for $10, and I received 5 in my 2019 February Birchbox. Some boxes have more than 5, but anything over 5 is usually a foil. Boxes get customized to your beauty profile, and you can opt out of one type of sample per box during sample choice.

Julep Maven February 2019 Review and What is the Future for this Subscription Box?

Three Days after I published this, Julep announced the end to its subscription program, so my theory below was correct. I am here to give my Julep Maven February 2019 Review, because I forgot to login between January 20th and January 24th to skip the February 2019 Julep Maven subscription box. My favorite thing about Julep is the ability to select the items I get in the box. Whenever I forget to skip (which has happened twice now), Julep sends me whatever it wants. In this case, it worked out, but I would have preferred getting these items later. To see my usual spiel where I go over the Julep subscription program, view the review for the December 2018 Maven BoxAs I was prepping this article, I noticed the links to sign up for a subscription box are not working. The links bring me to the best-sellers page. This could mean Julep halted selling new subscriptions while it catches up on its backlog, but it could also mean it might stop the subscription service altogether.
