Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Shine Lip Set, A 2019 Spring Bonus Sale Recommendation

I want to offer my 2019 Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Shine Lip Set review, because the Sephora 2019 Spring Bonus Sale opens to VIB Rouge members today. This is something worthy of adding to your shopping list. It took me a while after its release to purchase it. Then, it took me a while to start testing the products. Now that I have tested all of them, I will have more entries for my lip balm article (which keeps getting pushed back as I acquire new products). Many of the Sephora Favorites sets have been misses lately, but this is a definite hit. If you are lucky enough to get one during the sale, grab it. Even if this somehow lasts through the sale and you are reading this, grab it.

Sephora Favorites 2019 Sun Safety Kit Review

My Sephora Favorites Sun Safety Kit 2019 review is ready. I waited until the first day of the Sephora Spring Sale to purchase it. Sephora usually tempts me when it puts out a new Favorites Set. These sets retail for a lot less than the value of the items inside. As long as the items you plan on keeping exceed the value of the price you pay for the set, it is a good deal. This is one of my favorite ways to sample new items, and I like the sets even more when they have some full-sized items inside. While paying for samples is something I do often with subscription boxes, I limit how often I pay for samples in sets.

The mystery of subscription boxes and desire to get things I would never purchase prevails in that case. When a set only has samples and costs over $20, I am less likely to purchase it. Paying for samples is not always a bad thing, especially when sets have items you really want to try, and you have not been able to get them for free or as a GWP.

Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit: Grab or Pass

The 2019 Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit has me once again wondering what is going on with the pricing on the Sephora Favorites sets. After years of solid Sephora Favorites sets at great prices, they were hit or miss in 2018. Some were outstanding, like the Sun Safety Kit, the Give Me More Lip Kit, and the Holy Sheet! Others were awful, like the Sephora Favorites Superstars 2018, the Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves, and Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup. Most landed somewhere between. Then, I saw the Sephora Favorites Set, Luxury Kit, and it convinced me that this is the worst one I’ve seen in a long time. Yes, the items are luxe, but they are samples. Most companies give samples to promote products. Assuming Sephora received these samples for free or very low-cost from the brands, this looks like a cash grab.

Sephora Favorites Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup Grab or Pass

See all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events. The Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup set dropped to $45 on 12/12/18.

I’m not really sure what is going on at Sephora this year, because the Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup is another Sephora set that does not meet expectations. It was not long ago when I wanted almost every favorites set it released. In 2018, I noticed prices going up and sizes going down. While some kits worth purchasing did get released, and I did grab some, especially the Sun Safety Kit and the Give Me More Lip Kit, no other year missed the mark as much as this one. My thoughts on the Superstars sets, 2018 and Everyday Must Haves, remain unchanged, but I found a kit that makes those look like good deals in comparison. The Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup released and I am extremely disappointed. We are in the time of year where people are looking for a nice advent calendar or something similar. This is not it.

Sephora Holy Sheet

The Holy Sheet set temporarily popped back up on 11/24/18 and 11/28/18, but it disappeared before I could check out with it. Sephora usually releases a Holy Sheet set twice a year. If you are reading this around the months I mention below, get ready for the next release. This is like a Sephora Favorites set that includes mostly sheet masks from the Sephora Collection. The first set usually comes out at the end of May and the second usually releases at the end of October. Unless you remember to check around those times, you will probably miss it. Before 2018, I had never received an email on it from Sephora that I can recall. That is probably because the set only lasts for a few days or less each time it releases. I can only remember only year where it restocked after getting released (before this one). It also usually releases after the Employee Appreciation Sale and before Rouge members shop the Holiday Bonus with a discount in November. That means getting it with a discount is highly unlikely. Granted, it also retails for $48 and has around $98 in value, so it is already a great deal.

Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip Review 2018

See all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events.

The Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip Kit was marked down to $47 on 11/21/18. I thought this was a great deal at $68, so I think it is a steal at the new price. After the somewhat disappointing Superstars Kit and the lackluster Superstars Everyday Must Haves Kit, my expectations for the Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip were low. Thankfully, this exceeds my expectations, because I think this is a pretty good set. I have no problem paying the full $68 asking price, so I placed an online order today. In the past, I would have shied away from a set with so many non-traditional bullet lipsticks, but I am trying to broaden my horizons and try new things. At some point, I will write a comprehensive article on the liquid lipsticks I’ve tried and go over my results for which one is best for dry lips. Until then, I will keep exploring.

Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves 2018 Grab or Pass

See my 2018 Sephora Favorites Superstars Kit Review, and all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events.

I used to love Sephora Favorites and while I am not ready to stop loving them just yet, the Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves 2018 is another disappointment. Who is curating these? How does the team in charge of curation not get that $75 for the one I am discussing today and $80 for the one I discussed last month is too much for a kit of mostly samples? In the past, the kits that contained mostly samples were $40-$45. This changed with the Skin Wonderland kits, which are always over $60 and typically sold without a full-size item in the entire kit. A lot of the items in that kit are sold in travel size, so many shoppers can justify paying that much for samples. You will notice that I have never reviewed any, because I have never purchased a skincare set of samples for more than $45.

Even $45 was too high for me unless there was at least one hero full-sized item that saved the kit or I could grab the kit on sale. It’s 2018 and there are too many ways to come by samples for a lot cheaper than a $75 or $80 kit. That means the full-size items in these kits need to pull their weight to justify the value. When they don’t, you end up with a kit that is unlikely to move without a discount. In my humble opinion, the full-size items in this kit do not pull their weight. I will start by saying at first sight, this one is actually more appealing than its predecessor that went for $5 more. Unlike its predecessor, there are a few items in here that have not been sampled by Sephora via promo codes, Sephora Play boxes, or Beauty Insider Point redemptions. Therefore, it will have some new items to people who have not already purchased the full-sizes.

The Sephora Favorites Superstars Kit Everyday Must Haves retails for $75. There are 11 products in this kit making the cost of each item $6.82. Three items are full-sized. If you were to purchase the full-size items separately, you would pay $66. That means even someone who wants all three full-sized items is still investing some money in samples. With most Superstars kits, the full-size products more than cover the cost for the set.

– 0.003 oz/ 0.085 g Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown (full-size)
– 0.085 oz/ 2.4 g BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop
– 0.52 oz/ 15 mL Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream
– 0.13 oz/ 4 mL Dior Diorshow Mascara in 090 Black
– 0.13 oz/ 4 mL FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Mini Instant Retouch Primer
– 0.035 oz/ 1 g Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Underage Red
– 0.12 oz/ 3.5 g Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder Glow
– 0.5 oz/ 15 mL Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer Primer + Moisturizer in 1
– 0.153 oz/ 4.5 mL stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Kitten Karma (full-size)
– 1 oz/ 30 mL Too Faced Cosmetics Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray Mini
– 0.04 oz/ 1.2 g Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion (full-size)

Medium Brown is too dark for my brows. As I already own it, I know I can make it work. Since I can make it work, I would keep this if I had the set. I do not want to go out of my way to purchase things that are not ideal for me, so this is not a selling point on this kit (for me). It is probably the best color when only choosing one for a set like this, because most of us can probably get it to work. Thus, I understand the shade selection. Though I have said so many times that they should have variations on the kits for color products to suit more customers. Those who love this color will probably see more value in this item.

The stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Kitten Karma is very beautiful and performs pretty well. It goes on vibrant, blends better than I expected, and stays on well. My eyelids and hooded and oily, so I do have some creasing with this. However, my eyelids crease with anything now. Things that used to work, like NARS Pro Prime Shadow primer, no longer work for me. Just because my eyeshadows always crease does not mean I do not enjoy them. This is stunning and I think most people will love it. Those who do not already have it will probably enjoy trying this.

I do really like the Urban Decay eyeliner. It is pigmented, goes on smoothly, and mostly stays put on the upper lid. My waterline cannot hold this for too long. Perversion is the most sampled color, so I have a lot of these even after giving a lot away.

Champagne Pop was in the last set, and I think it is odd to place the same sample in the very next set. Anyone who purchased the last set now owns this, if s/he did not already. It is a beautiful highlighter that I enjoy, as I mentioned in my review of the other set.

I’ve heard great things about the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream and even ordered a foil sample of it. So far, I have not tried it yet. If I place it in my October foil challenge, I might be able to try this while there are still some kits left for sale.

I already have samples of the Dior Diorshow Mascara in 090 Black, the Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer Primer + Moisturizer, and the Too Faced Cosmetics Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray, but I have not tried them yet. Unless I really love them (after trying them), I would not keep these duplicates.

The FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Mini Instant Retouch Primer, the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Underage Red, and the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder Glow are products I do not own at all, so this would give me a chance to try some new things.

I said I would purchase the last one if it discounted from $80 to $40 and purchased it a few days later when it did just that. It is highly unlikely I will guess the price I am willing to pay twice and get my request granted again. However, I will give it a try. If this kit dipped to $40, I would be willing to purchase it. This does have more items in it that I do not already own, but I already own all three of the full-sizes. Since I would basically be buying this solely on the strength of the samples, I think paying over $40 is too much. There are more unique items in this, so I cannot see Sephora discounting this to almost 50% off. People will probably buy this to try new things. If a discount is granted, I am thinking it will go to $50 (and that will be at the end of the year in the sale on sale if they have not sold them by then).

They are all nice items, and I think anyone who does not already own them might enjoy all three (if the products and colors suit them) of the full-size items. A specific brow color can work great for those with a compatible hair color. People who dislike glitter shadow, cream shadows, or light shadows might get disappointed with the stila product. Black eyeliner is a staple for most. For those who wear black eyeliner, they usually already have multiples. It would have been nice to see either the Magic Cream, the primer, or the setting spray in place of any of these full-size products or better yet adding one to the three already here. After all, the last kit was only $5 more and had four full-size products.

The odds of me keeping duplicate Stila shadow or Urban Decay liner are slim, because I do not use either often enough to justify backups. In case the Stila dries up, I guess it would not hurt to have a new one ready to go. That means I would keep the ABH pencil and at least a few of the samples to get my personal value over $40. I cannot see any scenario where I would get $75 in personal value from this or even $60 assuming this is still available when the fall VIB sale starts.

Since this is the second Superstars Kit released in the second half of the year, I doubt we will see another one before next year. Those who purchase one each year will either have to pass this year or decide which of the two available are the lesser of the two evils. Of course, a sale could happen on either set again in the future if they sit too long. Something tells me this one will not sit as long though, given it has more new products inside of it.

Yes, this post was a little more negative than usual, but I feel strongly this is another miss. Only someone who does not mind paying for samples AND either wants to try a lot of new things (if s/he does not already have them) or already loves a lot of these things. It helps if the person buying this set wants all three of the full-size items, but that person would still be paying something for the samples even if s/he keeps all the full-size items. These kits are so much better when the amount of the full-size products at least covers the cost of the kit. That way, the samples are a bonus instead of something you’re buying.

Sephora Favorites 2018 Superstars Kit Review

See the grab or pass on the Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves, and all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events.

This 2018 Sephora Favorites Kit came back in stock temporarily (after I reviewed it), but it returned to its original $80 price tag. I went over the reasons I would not purchase the 2018 Sephora Favorites Superstars Kit at full-price in a grab or pass article. The main reason was the original price of $80 was too high for mostly samples that Sephora has given out many times. Of the $85.50 in full-size products, none of the items really grabbed my attention. I already owned two of them and the other two were things I would not usually purchase, especially at full-price. All of the samples already existed in my collection, and I did not need duplicates of any of them. My decision in that article was I would purchase the kit if it dipped to $40. At that price, I could justify grabbing the two items I did not already own and keeping some duplicates of the products I really love and would actually need. Days after posting that article, Sephora discounted the set to $40 in its Labor Day Sale. To make sure I could not pass this deal up, Sephora allowed me to use my Rouge discount code from the Beauty Insider Appreciation Event for an extra 20% off bringing the final sales price to $32.

See my Grab or Pass on the Superstars Kit Everyday Must Haves, and all 2019 Sephora Promotions, Sales, GWP, Deals, Promo Codes, and Events. As I mention below, this Sephora Favorites Superstars Kit is worth $40, so I purchased and reviewed it when it dipped down to that price in the Labor Day Sale.

The latest Sephora Favorites Superstars Kit for 2018 is still available. The Beauty Insider Appreciation Event opens to Rouge members today. Rouge members get 20% off one online purchase and an unlimited number of 20% off opportunities in store until the event ends. All beauty insider levels get a discount, but they start on a different date. I’ve gone over the details for that event in another article, so I will not mention this event again here. While looking for ideas on what I should buy, I came across it again. This is something I never considered at full-price, but could I justify it with a 20% discount? As a deal shopper, I typically enjoy the favorites sets Sephora puts out. This one was the first Superstars Kit in years I am not interested in.

Sephora Favorites 2017 Sets

I’ve decided not to write a general article for Sephora favorites sets in 2018. Any sets I purchase will get a dedicated article, including my purchase recommendation or advice to pass on it. Just view other Sephora Favorites articles, or use the search bar to see if I’ve reviewed the set you’re looking for. Though I did purchase a few sets in 2017, I did not blog much. Thus, I did not review any that were no longer available when I resumed. All of my 2015 and 2016 sets have reviews.

I track all Sephora offers. No one curates sets like Sephora. The Sephora Favorites sets always occupy at least three of my top five sets for the year, and I purchase a lot of sets from different retailers. This article will cover all Sephora Favorites sets for 2017 (other than the perfume and cologne sets). Those sets usually include a scent-certificate to redeem a freebie for the sample you liked most from the set, so it is a wonderful purchase for perfume or cologne lovers. There are a lot of great kits that exclusive to Sephora in JC Penney as well. As I rarely visit a SiJCP, I do not track its sets. They’re worth checking out if you shop there. If I ever happen upon a set from a SiJCP that I like enough to buy, I will write a separate article on it. At times, the SiJCP kits are smaller versions of one sold in Sephora. Other times, there are unique kits that are not available at Sephora at all.

Sephora Favorites Trending: Beauty’s Most Coveted Set Review

No one puts favorites sets together like Sephora. They are one of my favorite things to buy, because I love sampling a lot of items that I get an incredible deal on. There is always a $75 Favorites kit released before the holidays that I consider the blockbuster. This year, that set is the Sephora Favorites Beauty’s Most Coveted set. It was out-of-stock very early into the Employee Appreciation sale, but it did come back in stock before that sale ended. I gave away my extra codes, so I decided to wait for the VIB Rouge Sale. When the sale started, it was still out-of-stock, but it did come back a day into the sale. Shortly after picking it up, it went out-of-stock again. The more popular sets tend to go in and out-of-stock a lot during these sales, but Sephora usually re-stocks them a few times. Sephora could re-stock this before the VIB sale or at least afterward for those thinking of gifting this set for Christmas (or getting a Christmas gift for themselves).

Sephora VIB Rouge 20% Off Sale and In-Store Holiday Bag GWP

See recent articles on Sephora Sale items.

The Sephora VIB Rouge 20% off sale started today. I’ve covered the info needed to shop this sale. If any of you are considering a trip to the store for the free bag with any purchase, I can confirm it is the same thin bag offered since 2014. Sephora calls this a shopping bag, but it is thicker than the average shopper bag. However, it is much thinner than the average reusable shopping bag. This free bag has not been available online since 2014. It is prettier than the design from last year. Like the Sample Clutch and the Mystery Sample Bag, this bag has gemstones. Unless a trip to the store is convenient for you, the bag alone is probably not worth the trip. It rips easily, but I do like these bags to store my empties. They stand upright and rarely fall over. By picking one up this year, I will have another back-up when my current one inevitably rips.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip & Liner Review

See the 2018 Give Me More Lip Review

No one puts favorites sets together like Sephora. They are one of my favorite things to buy, because I love sampling a lot of items that I get an incredible deal on. This is the first year since I started shopping at Sephora that there is no Give Me More Lip Set. The large set lip lovers get this year is Give Me Some Lip & Liner. It has 14 lip products, so it is right on par with past sets (they usually have 15-16). There are four full-size products in the set and as usual the value of the full-size items exceeds the cost of the set. If you’re interested in the full-size items, this set is definitely a deal.

Sephora Favorites Chic It Easy Review

No one puts Favorites Kits together the way Sephora does. The Sephora Favorites Chic It Easy set has great items for the bargain price of $49. I have a hard time passing on any of these sets. This is one I almost successfully passed on, not because I wasn’t interested in the set, but because I already owned so many items in the set. It finally hit me that most of the items I have duplicates of are items I will eventually run out of. Getting them in this set will actually save me a bit in the long run. Sephora actually released five new Favorites Kits a few days ago, and I once again find myself trying to resist them. Odds are I will not resist all of them.

Beauty Insider Appreciation Week runs from September 10th through September 17th. During the event, Beauty Insiders get 2x points, VIB members get 3x points, and Rouge members get 4x points. This event usually takes place in August, but Sephora pushed it back this year to iron out the details of the Rewards Bazaar. Hopefully, nice items enter the Rewards Bazaar, so the point multipliers for this event get put to great use. It officially kicked off this morning with a private VIB Rouge Event, which I wrote about separately. Sephora always offers a VIB Appreciation Bag for VIB and Rouge clients during the event. There are two options this year, but they share a one time use code. Members can choose the one they prefer (if they arrive before one runs out of stock). These are the same bags handed out at the VIB Rouge event this morning, so it is possible Rouge members who attended the event can get both bags.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip Review Fall 2016

See the 2018 Give Me More Lip Review

Two of my favorite things to collect are lip products and eyeshadows. I have a hard time passing on the latest and greatest eyeshadow palette and lipstick kit. Sephora puts favorites kits together like no one else. It is so hard to pass on them, even though I have more lippies than I can use. Earlier this year, Sephora launched Give Me Some Nude Lip for $28. Even though I am not a huge fan of nude lip colors, I loved the set. The colors in this new Give Me Some Lip are more my speed, so I knew I had to get this. If you’re looking for Give Me Some More Lip that launches every year, that should probably launch around the end of September if it follows 2015 or mid September if it follows 2014. After seeing previews around social media, it is safe to say I will purchase that one as well. These lip sets never stay in stock long, so it will probably sell out before the bigger one launches.

Sephora Favorites Soko to Tokyo Customizable Skin Care Set

No one puts favorite sets together like Sephora. The Sephora Favorites Soko to Tokyo Customizable Skin Care Set has had technical issues over the past week, so it would only go up for a few minutes at a time before Sephora pulled it back down. When it went back up last night, I was able to purchase one. My set is pictured below, but there are so many possible combinations to make a set that yours could be completely different. This set gives you a bag and the option to choose any five items from a selection of 13. There are two ways to add the items to your cart. One of the ways allows you to select multiples of the same item, which is why I believe they keep pulling the link down. They are trying to make it so you have to select one of each item.

A new Sephora VIB Rouge exclusive closed-door event launched earlier today, June 5th, 2016. This private event granted First Access to Fall Launches. Unlike previous closed-door events that offer an actual shopping perk, like a discount or a point multiplier, this event only offered a chance to spend the same amount and get the same perks as everyone a little sooner than others. Like the open-door events for Face Mask Friday, Lip Boldly, and Flash Your Card, there was a gift available with a $25 purchase. It was promising to see closed-door events return, but I think they should return with a real benefit instead of a glorified GWP that we can get online with any order. I’d like to see the event return in August with the Point Multipliers or November with the VIB sale.

Sephora Favorites Paint It Pink Product Review

Paint In Pink retails for $40 and has a $122 advertised value. I have a hard time resisting a Sephora Favorites. No one puts kits together the way Sephora does. Although it only has eight items (making each one $5 each), three of them are full-size. The cost of the full-sized products alone more than pays for this set. Usually, I would present the entire purchase in one article to go over the entire deal. This set stands alone by itself, and the items I got with this also stand alone. Thus, I will present the second half of the order tomorrow.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip

See the 2018 Give Me More Lip Review

I have a really hard time passing on a Sephora favorites. When Give Me Some Nude Lip launched, I thought I would pass. Nudes are not really my thing. When I wear lip color, I generally want them bold. My bolder eye looks do pair better with nudes, so I keep some on hand. Lippies are a serious weakness. This is my third mini set. Although I missed the 2015 set, I did partake in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 and 2015, I also purchased the Give Me More Lip sets (which are a lot larger). You could quickly build your lip collection just by investing in these kits. This set has gone in and out of stock online. If it is out of stock again when you check, call your local stores to see if they have any. They can hold it for 24 hours if they do.

Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip 2015

See the 2018 Give Me More Lip Review

When it comes to favorite sets, no one puts them together like Sephora. The Give Me More Lip Kit usually releases every year in mid September, but it released a little later this year. I have a really hard time passing on favorites that are makeup and skin care related causing me to buy more than I should. My favorite kit each year has is the Sun Safety or the Give Me More Lip. The smaller Give Me Some Lip Kit looked nice as well, but I sat on buying it for too long and missed out. It was cuter than the one I got in 2013 and 2014, so I regret my decision to wait until I had more used than unused lipsticks to buy it.

Sephora Favorites Bronze Bares All

When it comes to favorites sets, no one puts them together like Sephora. I have a really hard time passing on favorites that are makeup and skin care related causing me to buy more than I should. The Sephora Favorites Kits have been hit or miss lately. Most products in sets are great even if they are repeats from earlier favorites, but I still cannot wrap my head around the $45 I paid for last year’s Summer Stash for a kit containing nothing but deluxe sizes. It is one I should have passed on.

I purchased Summer Stash on 04/19/14. As recently as June of 2015, they were still trying to move them for $30, which is 33.3% off. That should have told Sephora they priced it too high. As if I did not learn my lesson on the early summer release, I also purchased the Sephora Favorites Summer Crushes kit on 07/12/14 for $45. While the sizes were bigger, it was still a kit of deluxe sizes. To add insult to injury, the price went down online the day after I bought it. While some convinced me that I could get the price matched, I did not even bother trying.

Sephora Sun Safety Kit 2015

2016 Sun Safety Kit

Every year in mid to late May, Sephora releases the Sun Safety Kit. It retails for $32, and $20 of that is donated to the Skin Cancer Foundation. My Dad has skin cancer, so I like the idea of buying something I want while supporting the cause at the same time. My insane stockpile told me I was pretty stocked on sunscreen, so I was ready to pass. I still have a few stragglers from the 2013 kit and half or more from 2014. Luckily, most sunscreens print the expiration date, so I use sunscreen in the order it expires and not when it arrives.

Everyone was waiting impatiently for this release, which was a bit later than 2014. It usually sells out in a few days, but it lasted about a week on and off online. It released and my inner hoarder/deal seeker told me to buy it. And, here we are.
