My favorite shopping event of the year is finally here. This weekend, which kicks before Thanksgiving with some retailers, provides some of the best deals we will see. Traditionally, this is the weekend where most retailers cross over from red to black, and they will do whatever it takes to earn your shopping dollars. Offers are competitive, because almost every retailer will have one. I will update this every time I see an incredible offer through Cyber Monday, so this list will grow over the week. My tastes might vary from yours, so make sure you sign up for emails from all of your favorite retailers. It is also a good idea to check multiple blogs and sites to see what each of them feel is worth mentioning this season. Most of these offers go out to all customers. Of course, there might be some affiliate exclusives or offers targeted to select customers. I am not listing any small offers, because this is the time of year when we can stretch our budget further by scoring just the right deal. Some big offers will not make the cut either, because I cannot list them all.
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 when Grover Cleveland (some dispute giving him credit) declared we needed an annual celebration of workers and their achievements. This was during the height of the Industrial Revolution, so employees were really making an impact on the economy. It was not uncommon for workers to endure 12 hour shifts, seven days a week. No one was immune, not even children. Since weekends did not exist for these workers, Labor Day was a welcome and extremely brief reprieve for our ancestors who brought us into a new millennium. Though must of us do not have the work ethic of our forefathers, and thank goodness for that because there is more to life than earning money, Labor Day is still an important part of our society.
Department stores have a lot of sales. Beauty is typically excluded from most department store sales so I really enjoy sales where beauty gets a discount, too. There are some exclusions (scroll down for that list) but even a lot of sale priced cosmetics get discounted with the promo code VIP. All beauty products ship free so adding cosmetics to your purchase allows you to bypass the $99 free shipping minimum. The sale runs from 03/18/18 through 03/25/18. It also includes a lot of designers that rarely go on sale, which is perfect for anyone looking to spruce up their spring wardrobes.
Macy’s is one of my favorite stores to purchase clothing for myself and my kids, because the clothing is cute and the prices are decent. They have frequent sales, so we rarely pay full price for clothing. Back to school shopping is usually an exception, because we usually shop in store. My boys tend to buy the items they like, and they rarely select items from the sale section. After shopping in person at Macy’s and Dillard’s for back to school shopping last year, we all decided it would be best to do back to school shopping online this year. The best part of shopping online is I can only show them things on sale without them experiencing fear of missing out when they see something in the full-price section. I highly recommend online shopping for this very reason unless your kids need to try the items on to make their decision.
Another Pay-to-Shop Program I was using got acquired by its bigger sister company, ebates. That left an opening for me to join a new one. There are many reasons to join multiple Pay-to-Shop Programs, but Getting the Best Deal is the main one. A reader referred me to TopCashBack. After looking at it, I decided that was the one I would add to my lineup. It joins ebates, Mrrebates, MyPoints, ShopatHome, and Swagbucks. Two of those are untraditional, so I really only have four I use for shopping. I look forward to learning the ins and outs and will add more tips to its page as I learn more about the program.
Black Friday is the biggest sale day of the year. Traditionally, it is the day most stores cross from red (losing money) to black (making money). Most cross in style with more deals than we can ever partake in. Participating in the best deals once required you to venture out at 3am. Now, you can get a number of great deals from your house. Cyber Monday will bring deals of its own, but it is not always the case that the best Internet deals come out Monday. Many stores see the same sale both days (assuming inventory lasts through the weekend). Some sales are better on Black Friday, even online.
