Pay-to-Shop programs allow us to get paid to shop online. We are already spending our money, so we might as well get some of it back, right? Online shopping makes finding the best deal very easy. No driving all over town to compare prices. The cost of gas will eat into or completely erase your savings anyway. If you’re not getting paid to shop online, you are not getting the best deal. Many pay-to-shop programs exist. They affiliate with the retailers and get paid a percentage your subtotal for the “referral.” They are easy to use and completely legit. Getting paid to shop online is not a scam. Ready to get the best deal in every way possible?

Sephora and hakuho-do collaborated to create a revolutionary line of brushes from the Sephora Pro team and traditional Japanese craftsmen. These stunning red, black, and white brushes caught my eye immediately. I usually avoid white bristled brushes, because they can look dirty even after they’re cleaned. The craftsman at hakuho-do create stunning works of art. All of the brushes from this collection are synthetic, which helps make them a lot cheaper than traditional hakuho-do brushes that use natural hair. The collaboration makes them more expensive than brushes in the Sephora Pro collection.

When you make it to your one Ace anniversary, Birchbox rewards you with a code, ALLACES. It is good for $15 off a purchase in the Ace category. There is no minimum spend, but there are not a lot of items in this category. I received my code last month, but I waited to earn a few more review points to place the order. On 09/10/15, I reviewed my September Box (thanks to the option saying I have not tried the items yet). My box just shipped, so I will not have it for a while. That brought me a little over 200 points, so I had $20 to spend in addition to my free $15 code.

Every year Platinum members at Ulta get a one day event where select items are available for 10x points. Yes, this combines with any other multipliers you may have. Read my Ulta page for the rules on combining multipliers (if you’re lucky enough to have more than one). This event is always at the end of August and has not included every item in the store since 2014. In 2015, only select items were included. It landed on Monday, August 24th. Ulta is on central time, so it officially started 08/23/15 at 10pm PST. The problem is the emails with the specific items included did not go out until the following morning. Those who got there at 10pm had to play with their carts a bit to see which items calculated at 10x points to beat the rush and avoid things selling out as we slept.

You’ve banked a lot of points at Birchbox. What should you spend them on? There are thousands of great items in the store. If you’re a subscriber, you’ve probably even sampled some gems you could buy. I like to use my points to purchase more boxes. The Limited edition boxes, in particular. The Gym Bag Heroes Limited Edition Box is perfect for me. New gear for my workouts is great, although I look forward to trying most of the beauty products as well.
How do I get the best deal? This is a question I see often. Sometimes it is directed toward specific retailers. Other times it is more of a general probing. Let’s face it. Getting the best deal can be a lot of work. Have you ever been so proud of yourself for doing your research and locking down an incredible deal only to find out you did not get the best deal available? You are not alone. This has happened to me, too. We live and we learn from overpaying. Then, we get more savvy in the future. There are the tricks everyone knows. Subscribe to the retailer’s updates. Do Google searches for promo codes. Use Rakuten, ShopatHome, Mrrebates, or TopCashBack to get a percentage back on what you order. Of course, you can always visit sites like this one that try to list all known deals in one place. What are you missing though? Can you do anything else?
