Sephora Play! February 2020 Review
It’s time for my Sephora Play February 2020 Review. Play! by Sephora is a subscription box that offers five deluxe beauty samples and a bonus foil packet or perfume vial for $10 a month plus tax. Shipping is free. Only items sold at Sephora come inside the Play! Box so most items are from well-known, high-end brands. While Sephora does carry a few low-end and luxury brands, they do not really appear in the subscription boxes.
Sephora Play! Frequently Asked Questions
Are There Any Promo or Coupon Codes For The Play! by Sephora Subscription?
No, Sephora has never offered any promo or coupon codes for joining Sephora Play! It does at time sell Play! boxes without a subscription for $10 or less than $10 directly through the site. Even when that happens, you will not need a promo code. Just check the sale section.
When Do I Get Charged For The Play! by Sephora Subscription?
The $10 charge processes immediately for new subscribers and from the 1st through the 4th for succeeding months.
When Do the Boxes Ship For The Play! by Sephora Subscription?
Sephora Play Boxes usually ship from the 11th through the 15th.
Do I Get Rewards Points For the Play! by Sephora Subscription?
There is not a traditional rewards program with this box so you cannot get points for referring friends or writing reviews. Sephora does award 10 Beauty Insider points to Beauty Insiders, 12.5 points to VIB members, and 15 points to VIB Rouge members. The Sephora Play! box also applies $10 toward your purchase minimum to maintain your Beauty Insider status. Visit my Sephora page for descriptions on points and status.
Can I See What I Got In a past Play! by Sephora Subscription Box?
This is helpful if you liked something but cannot remember what it was. You can view contents on one box at a time accessing the links through your Sephora order history. There are times when I can see all my Sephora history from that link and other times where it cuts older orders off. The past boxes link does give complete details on the last six boxes.
Can I See What I am Getting in My Next Play! by Sephora Subscription Box?
I find that the items will get listed in the account around the 15th. Some people call or search the Internet for spoilers before that. Others are even lucky enough to get their boxes before that. By the 16th, everyone who wants to know generally can.
How Can I Get Better Play! by Sephora Boxes?
If other people are getting boxes that you want, it might be time to tweak your Play! Profile if you aren’t ready to throw in the towel.
How Do I Update My Sephora Play! Profile?
Make sure you update your Sephora Play! Profile, because it does not use the Sephora profile for this box. You can continue to play with your settings until you are happy with what you’re receiving. If no adjustments help, cancel your subscription. You can view samples that were available this month through shop the products link.
This article covers my Play by Sephora February 2020 Box Review, but you can see a synopsis of a year of Play! by Sephora Box reviews vs a year of Birchbox reviews. Every year, I review my $10 boxes against each other, so I can declare the annual winner. This is also helpful for those who would like to see a year of reviews for either box in one place. Birchbox did raise its prices for select members, but it is still $10 for me. I did consider the raised prices in the 2019 review.
Each box comes with a Sephora Play! Book. This is a booklet that unfolds into a large sheet of photo paper to show info about all the items inside the box.
It also goes over the theme for the box and shows how the products tie into the theme. The theme for February Play! by Sephora Play box is The Anatomy of a Beauty Lover’s Heart.
Items come inside a thick ziplock bag. You can reuse these bags. The colors keep changing, so I have a rainbow.
My Sephora Play Box February 2020 Review
I received three skincare products, two makeup products, and one haircare product. My Sephora Play February 2020 is box version is 2305738, Box A.
New Items to My Collection
The 0.5oz Clinique Blackhead Solutions 7 Day Deep Pore Cleanse & Scrub is worth $2.86. It says this was chosen for my skin concern, but I do not get blackheads. My pores do get clogged, resulting in acne. Then, I pick that acne creating more acne. I will try this and see how I like it as an exfoliant. It is a physical and chemical exfoliant, which is my favorite type. This also works as a mask and a cleanser.
The 0.23oz fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer is worth $8.74. This is a moisturizer I’ve always meant to try, so it is the one item in the box I am really excited about. It is a lightweight moisturizer, so I will try it in the summer. My skin needs more moisture than a lightweight product can deliver the other three seasons.
Repeats to My Collection
The 0.05oz VERB Ghost Oil is a foil without value. Sephora considers this a bonus. I have not tried it, but I like experimenting with different hair oil. My goal is to find the perfect one that adds shine, reduces frizz, does not weigh down my hair, and does not make my hair look greasy. If I like it, I will open one of the many larger samples of this I already own.
The 1oz philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser is worth $3. This lathers beautifully and rinses really clean. There is a light fresh scent that makes the experience almost relaxing. I have so many cleansers that it is too soon to say whether I will keep this duplicate or not.
The 0.035oz Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey is worth $9.75. I’m guessing on the size, because it is either not listed or too small for me to read. Sephora just sent this in my November 2019 Play Box. It annoys me to get duplicates so close together. Play has been running long enough that there is no excuse for this.
I cannot remember what I thought about it. This berry shade with the satin finish and lipstick texture is perfect for the fall/winter. As I do not need yet another duplicate, I am not keeping this.
The 0.049oz KVD Vegan Beauty Lock-It Setting Powder is worth $4.13. This powder is good but not great. It emphasizes texture a little more than my beloved Laura Mercier powder. Because the price per ounce is more expensive than the Laura Mercier powder, I would never buy this. I always use powder, so this is a duplicate I might keep. If someone in my life needs a powder sample, I would part with this.
Was the Sephora Play February 2020 Box Worth It?
The Sephora Play Box February 2020 has a $28.28 value. This brings the average box value for the year to $41.66. My personal value is at least $11.60. That is because I will try the two items that are new to my collection. If I keep the powder or the cleanser, my value could rise a little. There is no way I am keeping the lipstick. I already own multiples in this shade.
I think this is the worst box I’ve received in a while. It gets pretty discouraging knowing how many new samples there are yet I keep getting the same ones. While I am willing to try the Clinique product, I’m not even sure if it is really for my skin concern as it claims. Thankfully, I did get a moisturizer I’ve always wanted to try, so this is not a complete bust. Had I seen the products ahead of time, I would not have paid $10 for the box. Thus, this one was not worth it to me.

Sephora does not inform any Beauty Insider of all promotions. It does list a great deal of them on its Beauty Offers page, but I list some it does not on my Sephora Deals Page. Between the ones it lists and the ones I list, you can catch most of them. Sign up for Sephora emails to get targeted offers. If you’re spending over $25 online, there is always a promo code that you can apply. Most major events run on a set schedule, which I track on my Sephora Sales Calendar 2020. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
