I wanted to have one article to go over Updates to the Sephora Rewards Program for 2020. Promotions quietly went away in 2018, like the 2x, 3x, 4x points on everything in August. We last saw that in 2017. Granted we did receive an extra discount for the first time in August 2018, so we turned our heads. In 2019, the Weekly Wow just stopped never to be seen again. We saw the Holiday Bonus for VIB members dip from 20% to 15% off. Then despite being on the schedule, the Merry Minis promotion never came to pass. There were other promotions we lost along the way. Those are just the first that came to mind. Thus, the reason, I decided to write them down. The changes are coming fast now.
I have one timeline where I list all major: Promotions, Sales, Deals, GWP, Promo Codes, and Events. Those who want to see an overall idea of what to expect this year should stop by. See where these Updates Sephora Rewards Program 2020 line up with others on the schedule. You can also visit my Sephora retailer page to see active and upcoming offers of all types.
That brings us to 2020. Rumors are still swirling about impending changes, but we’ve already had so many changes for a year that has only just begun. Many of us have seen the press release about the update after 01/15/20. Of course, none of us know what it means so we are are left to speculate. I go over some theories and share the release if you’re interested in either in What’s is in Store For the Sephora Rewards Program.
Updates to the Sephora Rewards Program 2020
Whenever something gets added or taken away, I will update this. If the Sephora reward existed prior to 2020, it will not get listed below. Check the relevant pages for a list of all current rewards: Beauty Insider, VIB, and Rouge. You can also see the Sephora Sales Calendar 2020 for all promotions.
Are Sephora Rouge Makeovers Free?
Free Sephora Rouge Makeovers were quietly eliminated at the end of 2019. Starting at the beginning of 2020, Rouge members have to spend $50 in product to get the makeovers just as the other tiers and non-rewards members do.
What Happened to the Sephora Rouge Tier Celebration Gift (Rouge Welcome Gift)?
Sephora eliminated the Tier celebration gifts for 2020. When members makes Rouge this year, they do not get anything other than the honor of knowing they dropped $1000.
What Happened to the Sephora VIB Tier Celebration Gift (VIB Welcome Gift)?
Sephora eliminated the Tier celebration gifts for 2020. When members makes VIB this year, they do not get anything other than the honor of knowing they dropped at least $350.
Can I Still Get Free Flash Shipping As A Sephora Rouge Member?
No, this has not been a guaranteed perk since 2018. Though it was a choice option in the tier celebration gift in 2019, those are now eliminated as well. Sephora Rouge members do get free regular shipping through 2020, but there is some fine print that leads me to believe that even that may go away next year. Meaning free standard shipping might be something I’ll be adding to this list next year.
I’m a VIB or Rouge Member. Can I Still Redeem 250 Points in Place of the Birthday Gift?
No, this is another 2018 and 2019 perk that was eliminated in 2020. See the Sephora Birthday Gifts 2020 article to see what gifts are available.
What Happened to 2x Points on Skincare at Sephora?
It is another promotion that existed in 2019 but quietly disappeared in 2020 with no word. The screenshot above is from the 2019 promotion. Sephora did Launch a two-day skincare sale in 2020. That was most likely meant as its replacement.
Will 2x, 3x, 4x Points on Everything in August Ever Return?
I am only putting this one down here because so many sale calendars still list it. After a multi year absence, it is doubtful. Besides, I still think the rewards program might change making this return even more unlikely. Sephora probably feels the extra discount in August more than makes up for the loss of this promotion. It has been absent since 2017. The first year we got the August discount was 2018, which was the first year this was gone.
How Long are Sephora Points Good For?
Sephora Points were good for 18 months prior to 2020, but it changed to 12 months. You only need a transaction on the account. To keep them active, you can even redeem your free birthday gift each year. That is a transaction that does not even cost you anything and your points remain. Redeeming a point perk is another way to keep your points active.
Will There Be Sephora Cash Rewards in 2020?
Yes, The Sephora Rouge Reward already existed before 2020. Rouge members got $25 for 1000 points or $100 for 2500 points. Beta testing for Beauty Insider Cash began on January 24th. It started with 500 points for $10. The program will not be 100% cash rewards as some predicted. It will just be a small portion of what we already had.
What Happened to 3x (4x) Points on Fragrance at Sephora ?
Sephora launched a new promotion to take over the 3x points promotion on fragrance from 2018 and 4x points promotion on fragrance from 2019. The only problem is this one is targeted, so only select accounts got it. Certain people got 20% off one fragrance for three days starting on February 7th. See its article for more details.
Updates from the Sephora Beauty Insider Community
I copied and pasted the following directly from the Sephora Beauty Insider Community. As they come to pass, I will move them above in my words. For now, they are just promises of what is to come.

What are the new experiences you are offering to members? Sephora has always offered premier beauty experiences to our BI members, and in 2020, we will go beyond beauty to offer our clients access to wellness and lifestyle events as well. On top of the tiered choices and never-expiring points that all members will continue to benefit from, we are excited to offer early access to new brand launches, as well as a range of new premium reward experiences, where clients can use their points to gain exclusive access to the most coveted beauty events and experiences.

Which program benefits are going away as part of these changes?
We are always looking for ways to improve and enhance the client experience. In order to implement some of the program updates, we’ve retired the choice of a tier celebration gift and unlimited custom makeovers for Rouge.
What’s evolving and new in the BI program?
We are always looking for ways to improve and enhance our client experience and bring the best to our most loyal beauty enthusiasts. Clients’ needs and preferences are always changing and we want to ensure the Sephora experience and Beauty Insider program evolves with them.
The New Sephora Beauty Insider Program -Updates Coming After April 30th!
After April 30th, we will finally see some program updates to the new Sephora Beauty Insider Program has hinted at for 2020.
Sephora rolled out beta testing for $10 off using 500 points in January 2020. After April 30th, anyone with 500 points can remove $10 off his/her bill when s/he checks out.
We will get the usual bonuses during the Sephora Spring 2020 sale. There are no changes here.
A new shipping minimum is getting introduced for VIB members. VIB members will now get free standard shipping with a $35 purchase. This was a Sephora VIB Tier Celebration Gift option in 2019, but Tier Celebration gifts were eliminated in 2020. It looks like all VIB members will get this promotion now.
There were already three Sephora Birthday Gift 2020 options for Beauty Insider members and four options for VIB and Rouge members before this announcement, so there is no update here. This is the same number of tangible Sephora Birthday Gift 2019 options as well.
New Sephora Beauty Insider Program Experiences
Point Multipliers were present at the beginning of 2019, but we seemed to get Sephora Your Beauty Win Offers in place of them in 2020. It would be nice to see them return after a multi-month absence. We’ve already missed the usual skincare multiplier in January this year, and the fragrance multiplier in February of this year. Hopefully, we will get our usual fragrance multiplier in time for Mother’s Day under the new program.
