Play! by Sephora Fall Must-Haves PLAY! Box Review – Winning Beauty
This is my Play! by Sephora Fall Must-Haves PLAY! Box review. Sephora is offering it for free with a $50 purchase using code MYPLAY. The photo of the promotion is exactly what I received, so I am guessing others will get the same box as well. It is Box 2198125 (F) is from April 2019, Winning Beauty. If you are considering subscribing to the Sephora Play Box, you can see my synopsis of a year of Play! Boxes or look at the monthly boxes individually. I review those differently than I am reviewing this single box.
2019 Sephora Event Calendar

Play! by Sephora Fall Must-Haves PLAY! Box Overview
There are five deluxe samples and two foils in this box. The breakdown is one makeup product, one skincare/makeup hybrid, three skincare products, and two hair products.
In April 2019, I received Box 2198109, so this box is new to me.
Sephora Play April 2019 Box Theme
This was my original box from the month of the Winning Beauty theme.
Each box comes with a Play! Book. This is a booklet that unfolds into a large sheet of photo paper to show info about all the items inside the box.
It also goes over the theme for the box and shows how the products tie into the theme. The theme for April 2019 Sephora Play box is Winning Beauty. This wants us to step into spring with tips and tricks that are perfect for this season’s budding beauty.
Items come inside a thick ziplock bag. You can reuse these bags. It is usually a red bag. This is the first time it was purple.
Getting More from Your Play! By Sephora Box
Like all Play! By Sephora Boxes, this came with a Play! Pass. I did not even bother photographing the back, because it expired on May 31st, like all of the other passes from April 2019. If you want to see the current code, view the September 2019 Box.

The 0.0018oz It Cosmetics Brow Power™ Universal Brow Pencil is worth $7.20. Sephora does not sell the travel size, so I am using the pricing for the full-size. If you want to buy this pencil, purchase the travel size. While it has less than the full-size, it gives you more than the package size on the smaller one and only what you pay for on the full-size making the sample size a far better deal. I placed this 0.05g sample next to my unused 0.07g (travel size) one and they look the same as well. I think you get about the same amount of product no matter what size it claims it is.
This pencil does build, so you can use it for a natural or a bold look. When you press lightly, the universal taupe shade is light enough for my color of blonde. It might look dark for someone with really light hair or might not get deep enough for someone with really dark hair. There is also a red tone that you cannot really see in the swatch, but you can see it in photos.
The pencil has broken on me three times (well once for this pencil and twice on a previous one), which is surprising given that it as very hard and waxy. That results in wasted product. When I opened my backup (did not want to use this so I can give it away), there was some wax build-up. It is over a year old, but I had not yet used it. As I was scraping off the wax, the pencil broke. Thankfully, it broke cleanly off, so I was able to push it back in this time. It will still fall out if I forget it is loose and am not careful, but I will keep using it until I no longer can. Once it breaks in half or refuses to go back in, it is over.
The 0.47oz PETERTHOMASROTH Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme Detoxifying Hydrator is worth $5.17. This is a product I already know and love, so I am keeping this duplicate. It is such a calming and soothing mask. I use it when I want a boost in moisture or when my skin is irritated and needs to relax.
The 0.16oz Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Dew It Right Eye Gel is worth $15.36. While gels usually do not provide enough moisture for my parched under eyes, this one has hyaluronic acid. That makes it a sample I really want to try.
The 0.16oz MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer is worth $5.92. I will probably try this, but I am not really into mattifying primers. My skin is dry, so it needs all the help it can get to glow. This is the opposite of helpful. If I want a matte look for something, it is nice to have samples. Heaven knows I would never buy a mattifying primer unless the sample becomes a FabuFind.
The 0.17oz GLAMGLOW Good in Bed™ Passionfruit Softening Night Cream is worth $6.12. It seems like the moisturizer my dreams are made of. With hyaluronic acid, exfoliating acids, and a creamy texture, I have very high expectations. I just hope it can live up to them.
There is a 0.25oz ALTERNA CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Restructuring Bond Repair Shampoo. I do not value foils, because they should be free samples unless they’re sold that way. Sephora agrees as it considers this a bonus. That said, I like getting them for my Foil Challenge. This particular sample is too small. It takes two of these ALTERNA packages for one hair wash.
There is also a 0.25oz ALTERNA CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Restructuring Bond Repair Conditioner. Everything I said above applies to this as well.
Was the Play! by Sephora Fall Must-Haves PLAY! Box Worth It?
The Play! by Sephora Fall Must-Haves PLAY! Box has a $39.77 value. That is just over my yearly box average of $38.07. If I included this in my average (which I am not as it was a bonus), it would drive the average up a little. My personal value is $32.57, because I will not keep the duplicate brow pencil. As I am keeping four of the five products when a normal Sephora order gets you 1-3, it is easily worth it to me. I suggest reviewing the available promo codes and picking a different one if this box is not appealing to you.

It does list a great deal of them on its Beauty Offers page, but I list some it does not on my Sephora Deals Page. Between the ones it lists and the ones I list, you can catch most of them. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.
Thanks for your review! I found this review yesterday and it didn’t have the full review and today I decided to check once again, and here it is,the review! My Sephora order comes today and I’m so excited to get this playbox and check it out.

You’re welcome. I like to write one article to keep every deal in one place. It’s more user friendly. So, I write one to tell about it and edit it when it comes in. There are some items I really want to try in here. Enjoy!
