Core Collection: My Spring 2019 Favorites
Summer is officially here, so it is time to go over my favorites from the 2019 spring season. I like to call these my core collection items, because I find myself reaching for them over similar products in my stockpiles. These are items I am still working on, so they will not make the Empties article for this season. Each is still worthy of discussion, so this is the place I like to do that. Items I am still in love with once I empty them become FabuFinds. While I cannot promise I will ever finish these (some products expire before I can empty them) and I cannot promise I will still love them enough to label them as FabuFinds upon completion, I loved them throughout this season. Many of these items are serious contenders for my Best of the Year article. There were seven items I really enjoyed this spring.
Like my FabuFinds, these are items I consider great deals. The deal discoveries do not need a discount to earn their value (although I will always try to find one if I can). Most of the time they are new to my collection. That is mostly due to the large amount of new products I try each year. Sometimes, they are items I’ve tried in the past but love more upon rediscovery. While I try to edit mini reviews into any article I mentioned these items in, I like to dedicate more time and attention to items I feel are worth the extra effort.
The CoverFX Shimmer Veil in Amethyst is such a beautiful purple. My eyelids are oily, so I was worried I would not be able to use this as an eyeshadow. Once it sets, it will not remove until you take it off. It looks so brilliant in full force, but you can sheer it out if you want (before it dries). I have tried this on my cheeks once, but I am not fond of it there. Both the glitter and the color were a little too much for me.
My skin had dry patches I did not even realize I had until I put makeup on after about two weeks without wearing it. I opened my Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant that day. This is already a FabuFind. When I use it regularly, even in the winter, I do not really get dry patches. It makes my skin look and feel radiant, because it keeps it clear (other than hormonal breakouts). This is my favorite chemical exfoliant, so I grab this over a new one when my dry patchess look bad.
I had to mention the ESYM Tenkawa Passage Linen Spray. My son threw up on his bed. No matter what I cleaned it with, I could not get the smell out. Then, I tried this. The smell went away. Expecting it would only mask the odor, I went back for days to check the smell. It was eliminated or at least neutralized. There are a lot of essential oils in this, so I did not let him sleep in his bed the day I sprayed it.
I purchased the tarte Sugar Rush Cake Butter Whipped Body Butter, because I wanted to see how it compared to the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream (comparison article on those is coming). This smells like cake and keeps my skin feeling really moisturized. It is thick, but it is not overly rich. That makes it pretty easy to wok into the skin. Whenever I want to smell sweet, I grab this.
After spending over half of spring testing natural deodorants, it thrilled me to see that the Degree MOTIONsense UltraClear Black + White Invisible Solid antiperspirant really works for me. It keeps me smelling great all day no matter what I am doing. Even when I do sweat, I never smell bad. This has a really fresh scent. While I would like to eventually find a natural deodorant that works for me, I am happy this is not a prescription strength one (as I used in the past).
The Juvia’s Place The Nubian Eyeshadow Palette is the palette I could not put down this spring. It almost looks like a boring palette, but it creates so many beautiful sunrise and sunset looks. While it is technically neutral, it is fun. Every color is pigmented, easy to work with, and blends well. I really enjoyed the looks this created and how easy it was to use. Most looks were vibrant and crease free at the end of the day, so these are long-lasting.
I could not stop using the Benefit Cosmetics Dandelion Twinkle Powder Highlighter. The color suits my skin tone even better than the blush, which has more of a pink tone. It gives my skin the wet look I love. I can wear it subtly with a light hand. With a heavier hand, it really pops. I find it lasts, because my glow is still there at the end of the night.
The NATASHA DENONA Duo Glow in Alba gives just the right amount of glow without accentuating pores. It has a golden highlight with a coral undertone. I can use this as a blush/highlighter combo for a natural look, a topper for a bolder look, or as one or the other depending on how heavy I apply it.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.
