FabFitFun Summer 2019 Subscription Box Review With Add-ons

My Summer 2019 FabFitFun subscription box review is ready! FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription that releases one box per season. Boxes have over $200 in value. The items are always full-sized and include products from: beauty, wellness, fashion, and fitness lines. Subscribers can either pay $179.99 for an annual subscription ($20 off when buying 4 boxes up front) or $49.99 for a Seasonal subscription. Shipping is free, but sales tax gets charged (in certain states). There is usually a code to receive $10 off your first seasonal box. Those codes are fffa2p6 and FAB10Members can select add-ons at deeply discounted prices to include with their boxes. All subscribers get to customize some choice options, but Annual Subscribers (select members) get extra choices.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Subscription Box Overview

There are 9 full-size items in this box. That makes the cost of each item $5.55 (if you paid $49.99 for the box). Of course, the cost goes down for those who paid less. You can get a summer theme with many of the choice options, so I think this was themed nicely.

The subscription box I received on my main account has a $406.95 value. Since the Generation Clay only lists a $49 price online, one could argue the value is really $416.95.

I really liked a lot of the items in the first and second category. Instead of paying $15 to get one extra of each ($30), I opened a new account for $39.99 (with a $10 discount) and got a box full of items. The subscription box I received on my new account has a $316.95 value. Since the Generation Clay only lists a $49 price online, and my mystery gift was $30 instead of the promised $24, one could argue the value is really $332.95.

I ended up purchasing a third box (after the warehouse reopened) for three reasons. One of my summer boxes had a code for $15 off. Since I still wanted the towel from category one and both of the remaining items from category two, I needed one more box. Lastly, I am constantly running giveaways, so extra items in categories I am less interested in mean more giveaway items for readers. Sadly, I did not get a screenshot before I canceled, so I will have to do everything by hand.

The items I selected for my first box were the ones I would have picked if I only had one choice, so these are always the items I want more.

My first box is teal with pink flowers and blue palm leaves. It is dark blue with white flowers and palm leaves on the lid inside.

My second box is green with pink flowers and green palm leaves. It is pink with white and teal palm trees and flowers on the lid inside. Sadly, this was shipped alone (since the only add-on I ordered with this was the men’s box). That also shipped separately. I will recycle this one.

Everything comes on top of white crinkle cut paper wrapped in white tissue, sealed with a sticker.

Of course, I always open it and peek before I photograph it.

I even opened up the duplicate robe to make sure it was sewn properly (read some complaints about that on the forum).

Every box teams with a philanthropic cause. This box supports the Eva Longoria Foundation. It works to help Latinas build better futures for theirselves and their families through educational and entrepreneurial programs.

Each box comes with a magazine. It features Eva Longoria this season. Every season this gets closer to the size of a real magazine.

It goes over all the available products available for this box.

This includes brief descriptions along with the cost to purchase each item.

There were more choices than usual and a new format, so the items spanned across three pages.

This article spotlights the Living Proof No Frizz Styling Cream. I love this product, so I grabbed one.

There was a round-up article on some of the beauty products. With a lot of beauty products in this box, I was really drawn to it.

The bag photographs a lot nicer than it looks in person.

This article went deeper into Eva’s life. I was not even aware she was a Mom. She seems really happy and fulfilled.

My favorite section is always the discount codes we get when we shop elsewhere.

These boxes usually have a code from Hello Fresh for a discount. I have never used one, so I like to post mine for anyone who may want to try it.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Shipping Schedule

There are three shipping groups. All annual subscriber boxes bill and ship in group one. Seasonal subscriber boxes ship in group two unless they are new and start before the group one bill date, have add-ons, are international, have a military address, or are overseas. Those exceptions ship in group 2. Group 1 and 2 have some overlap, so it really is one large group. In the simplest terms, only seasonal subscribers in the contiguous US without a military address or add-ons ship in group two. Group 1 and 2 got billed on May 17th and all boxes should have shipped by June 16th. My boxes both went out in group one on 06/16/19 (annual) and 05/29/19 (new seasonal). They got delivered on 06/20/19 (annual) and 06/03/19 (seasonal). I also ordered a men’s box on my second subscription. That shipped separately on 05/23/19 and got delivered on 05/30/19. Everyone in group three got billed on June 1st and all boxes should have shipped by July 1st.

All FabFitFun subscribers got to customize three choice options.

Annual subscribers got to customize five items, and seasonal subscribers got to customize three. This is only available during the customization window. First time subscribers can choose as they sign up or they will get a randomly selected box from the current season or an editor’s box if the seasonal box is sold-out.

The window for the Summer 2019 FabFitFun box was from May 8th (annual start) to May 11th (seasonal start) to May 15th at 11:59pm. Members get one choice from each customization row included with the cost of the box. For those who want more than choice per row, they can add extra choices in a given customization row for $15, $10, or $7 each as long as supplies last. Those who arrive at the beginning of the customization window can usually add every extra choice if they want to. Popular items will run out of inventory leaving those who arrive later with less extra options.

FabFitFun Customization Options Summer 2019 Box

All Members Can Choose

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Customization 1: Sutra Professional Mini Travel Blow Dryer ($60), Spiritual Gangster Maya Kimono ($60), Vix Paula Hermanny Lotus Towel ($50), or Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream & Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel ($45). You get 1 included with the cost of your box. Add extras for $15 each while suppliess last.

I selected the Sol de Janeiro duo in my first box, because I already love the Bum Bum cream. You can read my review on that product with its lovely sugar cookie scent and body glistening glitter. The shower cream-gel is something I’ve wanted to try for a while. This is the full-size 13oz shower-cream gel, so I am saving $25 I would have eventually paid just for the opportunity to try it. It comes with the $20 2.5oz Bum Bum cream.

I selected the Spiritual Gangster Maya Kimono in my second box. It looked like it would run small, and it does. My guess is this would look better on a thinner woman, but I am keeping it anyway. When the rayon material brushes up against my skin, I love how comfortable and cooling it feels. This could have been assembled better. The stitching is a mess, but the pattern is lovely.

I ended up with the kimono again with the third box. It was extremely disappointing, because I really wanted the towel. You cannot see which items are out-of-stock until after you join. This was the only item left, so I now have two. Expect one to make it into a future giveaway.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Customization 2: 111 Skin rose gold sheet masks -set of 5 ($160), West Elm Stacking Bowls -set of 3 ($39), Summer & Rose Beach Tote Bag ($50), or XO Sienna Felt Letter Board ($35). You get 1 included with the cost of your box. Add extras for $15 each while supplies last.

I really wanted all four items in this category, but I did not want to order 4 boxes or spend and extra $15 for each one. Instead, I picked the two I wanted the most. It was so hard, but I could not pass the chance to get a $160 set of masks. How often would I get to use a single sheet mask that retails for $32! Thanks to FabFitFun, at least five times (if I do not give any away). Without FabFitFun or other boxes, I would say $0. There is actually an article on expensive sheet masks that I think you should read, but you should never feel guilty indulging when you can do it at a bargain. Considering I did not love the only 111 Skin product I’ve tried, I hope I made the right choice getting these masks, because I would have loved either of the two options I missed.

I have so many bags, but I am really drawn to cotton bags with rope handles. The colors and pattern are really pretty, too. It is very well-made. Of all the products in the boxes, it is one of my favorites.

This one is bigger, thicker, nicer, and cheaper (in price) than the Brittany one I really love from summer & rose. I have really high expectations for it. It has a button instead of a zipper (like the other one I love), so this would be great for towels that need to air out. My guess is I will use this as my new pool bag.

I selected the West Elm Stacking Bowls for my third box. These are way more beautiful than I thought they would be and easily worth the full $39 retail value. The design is intricate and unique. This color scheme goes great with my other dishs.

They are extremely sturdy and well-made bowls. Going back for the third box for these alone was worth it, even though I got stuck with a duplicate robe.

I added the XO Sienna Felt Letter Board for $15. After all, I saved $15 using the code from the past box. This brought my total back to $49.99, but it got me an extra item.

This is something I’ve always wanted, but for whatever reason never purchased. I figured it was finally time.

It is smaller than I pictured, but it works just fine for what I will use it for.

It is definitely geared toward a texter, because it has a lot of emojis.

I would have preferred more real letters, because I had to get creative to even write this message. It still suits my needs, and I am happy to finally own one.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Customization 3: Burn 60 Resistance Bands ($34), Jennifer Zeuner Star Double Necklace ($50), or Odeme What a Pair Silicone Wine Glasses -set of 2 ($25). You get 1 included with the cost of your box. Add extras for $10 each while supplies last.

I did not really want any of the items in this category. Jewelry is not really my thing, but I do not mind certain pieces for the rare occasions when I wear it. Alcohol is not my thing either, but I thought the pink cups could serve some other purpose. Until I figure out what that purpose is, I will keep them put away. They feel cool enough to squeeze back and forth like a stress ball. Because the cups were the only product I could use for something else, I selected them for my first box.

I asked my husband if he had any interest in the resistance bands. He owns a set, but he does not know where it is. The good news is he was happy to have a set to use until he finds his. On a not so bright note, he is not impressed with the quality of the bands. His exact words were they will probably break before he gets the chance to return them. That is not a good sign.

Even though I am not a huge jewelry person, I selected the Jennifer Zeuner Star Double Necklace for my third box. It was the only item I did not already own, and I did not like the others enough to order duplicates. This is lovely. Whenever I want a dainty necklace, I will consider this one.

Select Members Can Choose

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Customization 4: Eyeko London Eye Do Black Liquid Eyeliner ($22), Living Proof no frizz Styling Cream ($28), or a Mystery Item ($24)* Mine was $30. You get 1 included with the cost of your box. Add extras for $7 each while supplies last.

I selected the 4oz Living Proof no frizz Styling Cream on my main box. Even though I already had some on hand, I wanted a product I already know I love. My hair is frizzy. This helps tame the frizz without weighing it down. As someone who has fine hair, I need all the volume I can get. The eyeliner is one I get samples of a lot, so I am really stocked on that anyway.

My second box is a seasonal account, so I did not get to choose my item. FabFitFun chose to send me the mystery item in this category. I got the 6.8oz SKIN&CO Roma Truffle Therapy Cleansing Oil, which retails for $30. FabFitFun has offered this in past sales for $7, so the extra customization pricing was spot on. This is one I’ve purchased from FabFitFun but have not yet tried. If I like the one I purchased, I will keep this one. I’ve come to love cleansing oils for my first cleanse when removing makeup or sunscreen. My favorite eye makeup remover is a biphasic formula as well. I have not tried a biphasic formula for removing face makeup yet. This gives me a chance to.

My third box was a seasonal account, so I did not get to choose my item. FabFitFun chose to send me the Eyeko London Eye Do Black Liquid Eyeliner. I placed it in my upcoming giveaway because I already have countless samples of it and do not even wear liquid eyeliner that often.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Customization 5: Doctor Rogers RESTORE® Healing Balm ($30), COOLA Organic SPF 30 Makeup Setting Sunscreen Spray ($36), or Intelligent Nutrients Refining Micro Polish ($45). You get 1 included with the cost of your box. Add extras for $7 each while supplies last.

I went into this one strategically. With summer coming, I figured a lot of people would want a makeup setting spray with SPF. My thought was I could select the setting spray on my main account (because I wanted one), but I would hopefully get the chance to try one of the other two products on my second account. Even though I have a love/hate relationship with the COOLA Setting Spray, it does what it promises. It helps my makeup last longer and gives me sun protection. The main reason I have a problem with it is it burns my eyes (even if I keep them closed for a long time after spraying). Yes, the burning goes away quickly and you can avoid it altogether if you do not spray it on your face like the directions advise against. Spray is in the title of the product name, so that is just silly.

I ended up with the 1.5oz COOLA setting spray in my second box as well, so I now have multiple eye burning sprays that work in every other way that matters. It would have been nice to try either of the other items, but I do not want to commit to an annual subscription on a second box. Until I see them, I never know if I will want more than one.

I ended up with the COOLA setting spray on my third account as well. What are the odds I would get the same item in three boxes when there were three options! Oh, well! This will find a good home with someone else.

Items in Every Box

There are 9 items in every box. The first 5 items vary in each box while the last 4 are stationary and come in every box. Because I got two boxes, I have two of each item.

The Invisibobble Original Duo Pack ($16) comes in clear and beige. You get 3 of each color. This is the standard size. I do like this hair tie, because it does not leave kinks. My hair rarely gets tangled in one of these either, although it has happened. If they were not uncomfortable to sleep or drive in, I would use them more. These are great for an outdoor activity or exercise.

The 3.97oz Generation Clay Ultra Violet Brightening Purple Clay Mask ($39 or $49) is something I recently purchased but have not tried yet. Now that I have three, I need to get on this. It claims it is Pantone’s color of the year, Ultra Violet. That is part of the reason I wanted it. Collecting things in this beautiful shade, even if I rinse them away is cool. Clay masks are great for cleaning out pores as long as I avoid the dry parts of my face (unless this is one of the rare clay masks that is not too drying).

The 8.11oz Grace & Stella Rose Facial Spray ($25.95) is perfect, because I have a rose water spray from a different brand that my husband always steals from me. If he likes this one even a fraction of how much he likes the HERBIVORE one, having two will come in handy.

The 2.5oz Whish Exfoliating Foot Mask ($32) is right up my alley. Doing some gradual, light peeling over time would probably reduce or even eliminate the need for more extensive foot peeling. Since I’ve promised another extensive foot peeling article at the end of the summer, I will have to wait until after that to try this.

My Second Summer 2019 FabFitFun Box Review

I used a $10 discount code (above and below) to get this box for $39.99. That was a $10 savings over purchasing it in add-ons. Between the savings and getting the option to choose the first three items, this was a no-brainer. My second box has a $332.95 value.

I already covered all the items above, so I will just briefly say that I have no regrets paying $40 for all these extra items. Those who end up buying three or more extra choice options in different customization categories should consider purchasing second box instead. You will get the items anyway, plus extras of the items in all boxes.

My Third Summer 2019 FabFitFun Box Review

I used a single-use $15 discount code to get this box for $34.99 plus one extra customization for $15. That gave me a free item over purchasing it in add-ons. Between the free item and getting the option to choose the two of the first three items (would have chosen three if there were any options left in category one), this was a no-brainer. My third box (with the extra customization) has a $364.95 value.

I already covered all the items above, so I will just briefly say that I have no regrets paying $40 for all these extra items. Those who end up buying three or more extra choice options in different customization categories should consider purchasing second box instead. You will get the items anyway, plus extras of the items in all boxes.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Add-Ons

My favorite part of this subscription is the ability to purchase add-ons. These products get discounted 30-70% off. The add-on window opened to select members on May 6th at 9am, but there were technical errors that caused it to shut down and reopen on May 7th. It opened to seasonal members on May 9th at 9am. Members were only charged for items that are still in their carts at 11:59pm on May 15th. This means items are not officially sold-out until then. As members remove things from their cart throughout the sale, you can add them to yours. I suggest adding items you missed to your favorites, so you can periodically check them until the sale is over.

I spread my add-ons over the two boxes, because I grabbed things as they came back in stock. You have to move fast when out-of-stock items come back, so I grabbed them from whatever account I was in.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Bundle Add-Ons

Bundles are great to purchase when you want all or most of the items in the curation, because you save over buying all items individually. Even when there is a weak item (based on personal preference in the bundle), you should consider the bundle if it costs about the same as the items you want. When it is only $1-$5 more, you can always gift the superfluous item. The best scenario is when the bundle with the item you do not want costs less than purchasing the items you do want separately. It is rare, but that does happen.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Add-ons Shades of Summer Bundle $34

This bundle includes: QUAY Cherry Bomb Sunglasses ($55), Summer & Rose Meghan Straw Hat ($48), and a 16oz Grace & Stella Aloe Vera Gel ($21.95).

FabFitFun sold the QUAY Cherry Bomb Sunglasses for $29. The retail price is $55. I really liked the watermelon vibes the promo picture was giving off for these rose pink frames. Mine look more rose gold than pink and green, but they are still nice. While I am not sure I would have ordered them if I knew they would come in this color, I still love the shape and the way they look on my face.

FabFitFun sold the Grace & Stella Aloe Vera Gel for $9. The retail price is $21.95. I can never have too much aloe gel in the summer, because I like to apply it after a cool shower following a long day in the sun. A bottle this size will give many applications.

FabFitFun sold the Summer & Rose Meghan Straw Hat for $19. The retail price is $48. I love straw hats, but I always seem to lose or destroy them. This one arrived a little bent, so I hope it straightens out. Other than the bend, I love it. It would have been nice if the band was not sewn on, but it is a pretty band.

That brings the value for this $34 mystery bundle to $124.95. Had I purchased these items separately, I would have paid $57. I saved $23 with the bundle.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Add-ons Mystery Bundle: For The Fashionista $29

I opted to get a themed mystery bundle in place of the regular one. It was the first time they were offered. Unlike the regular mystery bundles where you do not know what you will get until it arrives, everyone who got a themed bundle received the same products. The Mystery Bundle: For The Fashionista was $29 and promised a value of $250. It included 3 items. I have a separate article to track all Mystery Bundles I order, so I will never go into great detail in the haul I purchased the bundle with. If you want more details on this bundle or any other mystery bundle I order, view that article. My items were: a DONNI Tri-Color Scarf ($99), Kendall + Kylie Sloane Sunglasses ($145), and the Summer & Rose Bella Earrings ($48).

That brings the value for this $29 mystery bundle to $292. This is over the $250 estimate, yet I really dislike this bundle. Yes, the earrings are pretty scratched

FabFitFun For Him II Edition Review- Summer 2019 FabFitFun Men’s Box

I purchased the Men’s Gift box for $49.99 for my husband. This is the price and size of an actual FabFitFun box, so I reviewed it separately. See that article for more details, but I will mention that it has $227.43 in products. The eight items inside are: 0.53oz Salt & Stone Premium Sunscreen Face Stick SPF 50 ($18), 2.19oz Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream Camellia & Geranium Blossom ($49), PX Clothing Evan Vegan Leather Bi-Fold Wallet ($40), 2.6oz fatboy Sea Salt Pomade ($21), 1oz Rebels Refinery Moisturizing Beard and Pre-Shave Oil ($13.99), 12oz Sempli Monti-IPA Beer Glass ($27.50), 8oz Pilot Men’s Grooming & Skin Care Complete Castile Soap ($17.95), and a Brouk & Co The Lighter Fix-it-Set ($39.99).

Single FabFitFun Summer 2019 Add-ons

The Summer & Rose Alicia Terrazzo Palms Beach Towel in cream retails for $55. FabFitFun sells this for $19.

It is 100% microfiber. I love it, because it is lightweight, repels sand, oversized, and pretty.

The Summer & Rose Corey Painted Diamonds Beach Towel in cream retails for $55. FabFitFun sells this for $19.

This marks my seventh Summer and Rose towel, which means I now own all seven.

I got two in the summer box last year, two in the edit sale last summer, and I ordered one directly from Summer & Rose.

FabFitFun Summer 2019 Subscription Box Overview

This box has a $1869.23 value ($416.95 subscription 1 + $332.95 subscription 2 + $364.95 subscription 3 + $754.38 add-ons). I paid $39.99 (before tax) for the second subscription on 05/10/19, $34.99 + $15 extra customization for subscription 3 on 07/15/19, $150.99 (before tax) for add-ons on 05/16/19 and 05/17/19. The amount of my first box was reimbursed by FabFitFun leaving my total out-of-pocket expenses at $240.97 plus tax. My discount was over 87% off. That brings the average box value for the year to $356.48, because I only use the main box items to calculate this. My personal value on the main box is at least $367.95, because I will only keep the Generation Clay mask if I like the one I purchased. On the second box, my personal value is at least $135, because I will keep all the new items. If I keep any of the duplicate items, my value could raise. For the third box, my personal value is only $124. While it would have been higher if I got the towel, I have no regrets.

Was the Summer 2019 FabFitFun Subscription Box Worth It?

This box is definitely worth more than the $39.99 to $49.99 people would pay for it. I would still rank the Summer 2018 box as my favorite, but this is a great box. If I did not think this was a great box, I would not have purchased two of them, so that is a given. Of the last five boxes, I have purchased two each time. That is because I find they are more than worth it. This is my favorite subscription box. When you combine great box items with a stack of out-of-this world add-ons, it makes the overall deal incredible and way too good to pass up.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.
