I am here to share the latest 2019 FabFitFun Starter Box Review. This is the third variation I’ve reviewed this year. The photos and products belong to one of the people I sent a Starter Box to. Two of these are products I love, and I think the other two look nice. I do not have any starter boxes, but I will update this if that changes. Keep reading to see what you might get or to get some questions answered if you’ve received an invitation elsewhere. Whenever I get these invites, the person I send the box to gets it for free if s/he pays the $5 shipping charge. Anyone who does not cancel will automatically move to a seasonal subscription on the 21st day after the $5 gets charged. Either a Seasonal box (if there are any left) or an Editor’s box would start the official subscription.

How Can You Get a FabFitFun Starter Box?
FabFitFun occasionally sells these for $19.99 each, but the option to purchase the FabFitFun Starter Box is not available (at this publication date). To receive a starter box, you must get an invite via email from a FabFitFun subscriber. The problem is FabFitFun members only get a limited number of invites, and we never know when they will pop up. I’ve been subscribed for over a year, and I’ve only seen the option to send boxes twice on my account so far. Offers appear at different times on accounts, and blanket offers on most accounts are only readily available before the holidays.
What is the Guaranteed Value of a FabFitFun Starter Box?
Each box will have at least 3-4 full-size items with a minimum retail value of $75. Most of these are items FabFitFun has placed in past subscription boxes, Editor’s Boxes, Add-ons, and Edit Sales, but it is possible items we’ve never seen before could appear in these boxes.
Do I Get Any Benefit for Sending a Starter Box?
Current Subscribers will not get a referral credit for anyone who signs up after receiving one of their starter boxes. FabFitFun gets the chance to pick up the new subscriber, but it also takes a huge risk giving away so much value for the cost of shipping. To offset what it loses from customers who keep the gifts without signing up, it refrains from offering an incentive for those who refer the customers. Those who refer the customers get the benefit of knowing they helped someone score an amazing deal. After all, the Walmart Beauty Box sends me free products when I pay the $5 shipping charge and it never has products this nice.
What is the Catch?
There is no catch, per se. This is basically a trial box to entice trial members who enjoy it to stay subscribed for future boxes. You will automatically get moved to a seasonal subscription and charged $49.99 for that subscription 21-days after you pay the $5 for your starter box. In busier times, it is not unheard of for the 21 days to pass before your starter box arrives. Most people want to see what is in the starter box before they decide whether to keep or cancel the subscription. You can cancel the subscription even before your starter box arrives though, and FabFitFun will still send it to you. Those who cancel before the 21st day get to keep the starter box without getting moved to a subscription. That means they get 4 full-size items for $1.25 each just for trying out FabFitFun.
How Often Do the Items in the Starter Box Change?
All four items in this box are different from the first 2019 FabFitFun starter box, but there is only one difference between this box and the one that went out two months ago. I have not seen any other combination this year, so it is safe to say they are changing at least once every three months. If you order the box anytime soon, you will probably get the one I’m sharing here, but for $5, it is worth the gamble of getting entirely different products.
The Summer 2019 Starter Box
It comes with a magazine, as the main boxes do. The magazine has not changed since the last box.
A card with the box contents comes with the box. Since FabFitFun took the time to print product cards, it is clear a great number of boxes will have the same items. A mystery bundle, which retails for $29, never has a product card. Those are random items thrown together (curated) to get rid of excess inventory.
There is a note from FabFitFun on the back of the card.
This is the best starter box I’ve ever seen, so I hope you are able to get it unless the next one is even better. Considering the $49.99 seasonal boxes only promise $200 in value, it impresses me that FabFitFun packed $200 into a $5 box. The person I sent this to was impressed and already told me she plans on staying subscribed.
The Rachel Pally Summer Scarf Cream Grid, which retails for $68, will actually make its way to me. Funny enough, My friend I sent the April box to traded me for this and I have yet to even try it. Thankfully, the person who received this box is an avid scarf wearer and was happy to get this. Of course she said it will be a while before she tries it, because it is too hot right now.
The SKIN & CO ROMA TRUFFLE THERAPY ILLUMINATING SKIN REFRESH MIST RADIANT DEW retails for $35. I talked my last friend into keeping this and she loves it. She was not really experienced with face mists, but she is all for them now. According to her, this does not even make her oily skin look worse. My skin is dry, so I really want to try it now. We’ll see how it goes for this friend. This is one I do not own yet.
The dr. Brandt microdermabrasion retails for $79. I am in love with this product and have named it a FabuFind. It was amazing to see this in back-to-back $5 boxes! They are so lucky. This is one of those products I always try to get samples of, because I do not want to live without it. If only it was not so expensive, I would purchase it more often. So far, I have only purchased it once, and that was when it was on sale. If it goes on sale again (after I use up some of the full-sizes from other brands FabFitFun keeps sending me, I will purchase it again. It is worth the $79, but I cannot bring myself to pay that. When it comes to exfoliation, I have a hard time settling on a single chemical or physical one. I see the benefits of both and truly believe the best exfoliation routine combines them. ALA and rounded aluminum oxide crystals work together in this product. It is so gentle that my skin never gets irritated. My skin feels soft and smooth after each use, and my dry patches go away with regular use. Everything I apply after this always sits nicer and absorbs better when my skin is smooth. The friend who got this in the April box loves it, so we will see how this friend likes it soon.
The 3.4oz $36 René Furterer KARITE HYDRA Hydrating Shine Mask is $10.59 an ounce. My hair is so dry and frizzy, so I love that I got one of these in the Winter 2019 Editor’s Box. As my stockpile is pretty intense I have not tried it yet. The one I love is expensive (although way less per ounce than this one), so getting a break from purchasing it while I try others is also a welcome break. Even if I end up loving this, I would not spend over $10 an ounce to buy it. Expensive products like this make the box fun, but it also makes it scary. We all love to try things we would never purchase, but what happens when we fall in love with them? The person I sent this to does not even use hair masks, so I think she is getting a special treat.
Is the FabFitFun Starter Box Worth It?
This starter box has a $218 value, which my friend paid $5 for. My friend’s personal value is $218, because she is keeping all the items. She was most excited about the scarf, which was the exact opposite of my last friend. We are all different though. Even at $19.99, she says he would have been happy with this. Though she does not usually purchase a hair mask, she says she will use one that is practically free. Watch her fall in love and start purchasing it. Had I received this, my personal value would have been $150, because I would not want a duplicate scarf.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
