My Sephora Jo Malone birthday gift review is ready. This is one of the two VIB and Rouge exclusives for the 2019 Sephora Birthday gifts, and the gift was not introduced until Quarter Two. It is online only, so you will need to place an order to redeem this. The Jo Malone gift replaced the Milk Makeup Gift from Quarter One. Since this gift was not even available during my birth month, I was unable to redeem it. I’m bringing you a review on the product today, because I already own it and want to go over my thoughts for those considering it. Everyone with a Beauty Insider account gets a birthday gift offer, so sign up if you have not already. There is no purchase required to pick up a gift in store, but you must make a purchase to redeem it online. Stop by my Birthday Beauty Deals page (if you have a birthday coming soon), because other retailers have offers as well. See my 2019 Sephora Birthday Gift review for Drunk Elephant, Kat Von D, and Milk Makeup.
I have one timeline where I list all major: Promotions, Sales, Deals, GWP, Promo Codes, and Events. Those who want to see an overall idea of what to expect this year should stop by. Jo Malone (VIB and Rouge Only) *Online only
0.3oz Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne ($20.40)
At $20.40, this birthday gift is the second least valuable. Considering this is the VIB and Rouge gift, it is disappointing that it does not have the highest value.
Sephora Birthday Gift Jo Malone Review
I am not the biggest fan of perfume. Between finding a scent I like, making sure it works with my body chemistry, using it before it goes bad, lasts on me, and does not give me a headache, there are many places perfume can go wrong. When I get to choose between fragrance and something else, I usually opt for the other product. For some reason, mini perfumes or vials are the exception. My theory is my perfect scent is out there, and I just have to find it. Small bottles are just less intimidating and less wasteful if I hate them. Because so many leave me light-headed, I do not wear fragrance often. That means many of the fragrances I collect sit around hoping to get used.
Thankfully, I had a sample of the Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne lying around, so I was able to review it. I also own a 0.3oz Jo Malone sample I received from a Sephora VIB promo code, so I can even go over the mini perfume bottle. Let’s start there. It does have a sprayer. That is my preferred application method, so I was happy to see that. While simple, the design of the mini is striking. The clean aesthetic and cut-outs on each edge give the mini a sleek, contemporary look. This looks lovely even next to bottles with more detail in my collection. There is a silver lid and sprayer that only add to the look. Did I mention part of the reason I love collecting mini perfumes is because they adorable!
While my Basil & Neroli Mini surprisingly smells great, I prefer the Peony & Blush Suede in the birthday gift. I can see myself working through my vial and wanting more. With how fast it fades, it will happen soon if I keep using it. Because I get light-headed easily, I spritz my left wrist once. After dabbing it gently (to avoid rubbing the notes) to my right wrist, I even more gently cross my arms to the pressure points on my neck. That means I spread the fragrance to four areas with one spray. This is how I apply most, but I do at times skip the neck with stronger fragrances. For the first few hours, it smells lovely. About six hours in, I can barely smell it anymore.
That means I have to apply it at least one more time to refresh the fragrance. There are days when I’ve touched it up twice (only during the testing phase, because I have not had a 16+ hour day where I need it three times). The key notes are Red Apple, Peony, Suede. They are all noticeable. Suede has the strongest scent, so it is the first note you notice. Peony is just behind it, but it is so beautifully melded together that they seem meant for each other. People who dislike overly floral scents (like myself) will notice that this peony is almost sweet. It does not bother me at all, and it is not overpowering in the slightest. Red apple is the most subtle fragrance, but it is detectable for my fellow fruit scent lovers.
Is the Sephora Birthday Gift from Jo Malone Worth Picking Up?
If you like trying new perfumes, already love this perfume, or have no interest in the other gifts, it is worth it. Sephora often places mini perfumes in the Rewards Bazaar as a 250-point perk. Those with their heart set on perfume but not interested in this one could bank the 250-points and cash them in when their preferred perfume piques their interest. The 0.3oz Jo Malone perfume I got as a VIB perk with a $35 purchase came with a fancy carrying case. I still have the case somewhere, so I will come back and edit in a photo when I find it. Seeing that they sprung for the case on the promo code but did not on the birthday gift is disappointing. As I clearly do not even know where mine is, it is not a deal breaker. Instead of a case, it could have come with a second product.
What are your thoughts on this Sephora Jo Malone Birthday Gift? Let me know below. Sephora does not inform any Beauty Insider of all promotions. It does list a great deal of them on its Beauty Offers page, but I list some it does not on my Sephora Deals Page. Between the ones it lists and the ones I list, you can catch most of them. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
