Birchbox March 2019 Curated Box Review and Subscription Box Offers

I’ve already reviewed my March 2019 Birchbox subscription, but I decided to purchase a featured box separately. This is my review on the March 2019 curated box. Anyone can purchase this curated box for $15, but subscribers can purchase it for $10. It will automatically discount the charge from $15 to $10 once you add it to your cart on an account with an active subscription. That is the cost of our regular subscription, so I recommend this when you want the featured box and a sample choice. Birchbox gives at least 5 deluxe beauty samples each month for $10, but there are 6 in the curated 2019 March Birchbox. See my March 2019 subscription review to view my sample choice and the other items I got with it.

Annual Birchbox Review

See a synopsis of a year of Sephora Play Box reviews vs a year of Birchbox reviews. Every year, I review my $10 boxes against each other, so I can declare the annual winner. This is also helpful for those who would like to see a year of reviews for either box in one place.

March 2019 Birchbox Theme

Birchbox makes a custom box design for each month. It has a spring theme with its flowers.

The first thing you normally see when you open a Birchbox is a product card. It lists the items in the box and the price to purchase the full-size.

The back of the card goes over the theme, which is, Invent the Reality You Want to Live. Birchbox is giving at least five members the chance to win $5,000 in honor of International Women’s Day (which was March 8th). This $5,000 is to help them realize their dreams.

Contents are loose inside the box with a single piece of black foam at the bottom. As you can imagine, fragile samples move around too much inside the box and are subject to breaking.

My March 2019 Featured Birchbox Review

The curated box has a hair product, two skincare products, two makeup products, and a beauty tool.

The full-size Luxie Beauty 213 Eye Shading Rose Gold Brush retails for $12. Birchbox does not include full-size items outside of its house brands very often. This is a brush I already owned two of before it arrived. Yet, it is the main reason I wanted this box. I really like this brush. From the sturdy, beautiful handle to the nice bristles, it is a great product. Getting this alone covers the cost of the box (for anyone with a subscription).

The 0.8oz Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse is worth $5.47. I had a sample of this, but my husband stole it. When I showed him that I got another one, he told me there is still some left in the original sample. No worries, because I have my own. Now, I just need to try it before he steals it.

The full-size 0.1oz ModelCo Metallic Eyeshadow Trio Positano retails for $18. It surprised me to see this was full-size. In all my years as a Birchbox subscriber, I cannot recall getting a monthly box that had two full-size items in it. Getting a box with six items is also rare unless one item is a foil, so this really is a special box.

The swatches on this palette are beautiful, too. I have high expectations for this and love the fall colors. Each color only needed a single pass for the swatch.

These applied nicely, which I expected based on the swatches. I wanted to try it at least once with just this palette, but I think it would look and perform better when paired with mattes. A palette with only shimmers makes it hard to create a cohesive look, because metallics do not look good in the crease and those shades are more likely to move. The colors lasted all day other than some light creasing in my eyelid fold. Next time I use this, I will grab another palette to have a matte transition and crease shade.

The 0.1oz Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG! Bigger, Badder, Volumizing Mascara is worth $9.29 (based on the sample size).

I’ve already sampled this in the past and am not a huge fan. It does give extreme volume but it clumps my lashes together if I use more than one coat.

I can wear it if I only apply one coat or resign myself to spider lashes. With so many mascaras to try, I doubt I will give this one another go. It is the only item I am sure I will not keep though.

The 0.1oz My Clarins RE-CHARGE Relaxing Sleep Mask is worth $1.59. I love sleeping masks and really wanted to try something from the new my CLARINS. This gives me both.

The 1.4oz Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is worth $7.59. I already have a sample of this, but I might hold onto this duplicate anyway. Cleansing oils are my favorite way to remove makeup, and these little bottles are great for travel. If someone in my life needs a cleaning oil before I try my original or I try it and do not love it, I will not keep this.

Was the March 2019 Featured Birchbox worth it?

This March 2019 featured Birchbox has a $53.94 value. I do not calculate average box value on extra boxes, but you can look at my regular March box review to see it. My personal value is up to $44.65, because I will probably keep everything but the mascara. Considering this is one of the best Birchboxes I’ve ever seen and I will get a lot of use out of it, I think everyone should purchase this (even at $15 for those without a subscription).

Let me know below. If your purchase is over $25 (longer subscriptions or purchasing something from the shop with the subscription), you can pick a free item from the bonus shop if you do not use a subscription start-up offer or discount code, which I cover on my Birchbox Deals Page. Some discount codes on that page will not work on subscriptions, but I will post any that work on my Birchbox Subscription Deals Page. You can always add a free two piece sample pack when spending $35, because it combines with any promo code. Tips For Getting the Best Deal lays out all the ways I know to save money at Birchbox. Product reviews do not always make it into the haul article, but you can always type the product into the search bar to see if I’ve mentioned it or reviewed it elsewhere. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.

  1. What an awesome box! Hopefully the Sephora Play team gets wind of this box and tries to compete better in April

  2. This was an unusually fantastic box. I am working on a Birchbox article now about some upcoming changes, so I wonder what it means for its future as well as the future of the other $10 boxes. It will be up in less than an hour.
