My Sephora Kat Von D birthday gift review is ready. Of all the 2019 Sephora Birthday gifts, the Kat Von D gift is certainly the most controversial. I’ve been a fan of hers for some time and own a lot of products from her line. While I disagree with her immunization stance, I have not boycotted her brand. 2019 Sephora Birthday Gift from Kat Von D

Between small sizes and lower costs for the products, this is the least valuable gift at $11.24. Those who place value on foils or use the full-size setting powder to determine worth on the sample will get a different amount.

This was the gift I wanted least of all the offerings this year. It is not even because it has the lowest value or because the brand has a lot of controversy surrounding it. The main reason is I already own the products. You might ask yourself why did I bother picking this up if I already owned the products. I own some studded Kiss lipsticks, but I do not own these colors. Well, I own Lolita in another formula. I wanted to show anyone thinking of picking this up what they all look like and give reviews on each one. Without picking up the gift, I could not have done that.

I want to start with the high point of this gift set, and that is the eyeliner. This is a fantastic eyeliner. For someone with hooded eyes and shaky hands, it is one of the easiest to apply. It also lasts all day with very little bleeding. Once it sets, it stays put unless my eyes water that day.

It dries relatively fast, so I am able to do wings. For someone with super hooded eyes (like mine), it will smudge before it sets if it takes too long to dry. I cannot apply wings with most of this liners competitors.

I usually wear it without wings, and it looks great that way, too. The powder from this set is good but not great. It emphasizes texture a little more than my beloved Laura Mercier powder. At $31 for 0.67oz, the Kat Von D powder is $46.27 an ounce. That is more than the $39 an ounce I pay for Laura Mercier. As such, I would never purchase it. Most of its other claims, including how light weight it feels are real, so it is a good powder.

The weakest item in this set are the lipstick foils. I still have some Painted Love and Foiled Love lipsticks that Kat Von C discontinued, and I find those a lot nicer than the Studded Kiss formula. Studded Kiss is one of the drier matte formulas in bullet form, and I prefer a more moisturizing lipstick. Of course, it lasts longer on the lips than moisturizing formulas and is still a lot more comfortable than any liquid lipstick I’ve tried. Thus, I would opt for this over a liquid lipstick any day if I wanted a beautiful color in a matte formula and did not mind some transfer. Outlaw is a satin Matte Brick red. I love reds and this is no exception. It lasted longer on my lips than the other two.

Lolita is a beautiful chestnut rose, and I think this would look great with a variety of looks from natural to bold. This was my favorite shade of the three in the set, and it was also the most comfortable. It also faded faster than the other two.

Vampira is a deep reddish burgundy. I love purple shades, especially vampy ones. This would have easily been my favorite color if it was not so hard to work with. It has a very patchy application, and no matter how much I play with it, I have a hard time getting it to look even. That is a common problem with dark purples. If you know of a dark purple that applies evenly, help me out!

Is the Sephora Birthday Gift from Kat Von D Worth Picking Up?

I have not decided if I will keep the powder (since I still have a lot of the one I already own) or the liner since I own multiples. Whether I keep them or not, I am sure I can find someone to give them to. It was worth it for me to pick them up. If it is not inconvenient for you to get to a Sephora and you want to try at least one of the items, I would say pick it up. You can even add one to an online order, which makes it even easier. The liner is a great product and the powder is a good product. For those who do not mind drier matte lips (not as dry as liquid lips though), the foils might even have some worth. My opinion of all these products going in was the same coming out, so I did not learn anything new by picking this up.
