Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit: Grab or Pass

The 2019 Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit has me once again wondering what is going on with the pricing on the Sephora Favorites sets. After years of solid Sephora Favorites sets at great prices, they were hit or miss in 2018. Some were outstanding, like the Sun Safety Kit, the Give Me More Lip Kit, and the Holy Sheet! Others were awful, like the Sephora Favorites Superstars 2018, the Sephora Favorites Superstars Everyday Must Haves, and Beauty Vault: 12 Days of Makeup. Most landed somewhere between. Then, I saw the Sephora Favorites Set, Luxury Kit, and it convinced me that this is the worst one I’ve seen in a long time. Yes, the items are luxe, but they are samples. Most companies give samples to promote products. Assuming Sephora received these samples for free or very low-cost from the brands, this looks like a cash grab.

2019 Sephora Event Calendar

I have one timeline where I list all major: Promotions, Sales, Deals, GWP, Promo Codes, and Events. This Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit will not make the calendar. It is not worthy, but you can see the offers that are. You can also visit my Sephora retailer page to see active and upcoming offers of all types.

The Luxe Cost Rises

I took a blogging break in 2017, so I did not write articles on the three Sephora Play Limited Edition Boxes I purchased with luxury items. All included six deluxe, luxury samples for $20. That was reasonable. In 2018, the price of those boxes went up to $25 as Sephora re-branded it a Play Luxe Box, and the quality went down. It was charging more for less. Though I refrained from purchasing any 2018 boxes, I still thought I would be willing to pay $25 for the right box of samples.

Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit Overview

I am not even sure what is worse about the Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit. Is it worse that Sephora went from $20 for six deluxe, luxury samples in 2017 to $45 in 2019 or is it worse that most of the items in this set were point perks or promo codes in the past? At $7.50 a sample, I would want six new things to try or things I already love. Only two of these are new to me, and I cannot say I love any of the ones I have tried, although I do not dislike any of them either. For $7.50 a sample, liking them is not enough. The Sephora Play subscription gives me samples for $2 a piece, and the $5.50 premium for a “luxury” sample is not cutting it.

Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit Verdict: Pass

It is not even well-rounded. How is this called a full-face set when three of the six products are for lips? You could technically cover your “full-face” with primer and setting powder, but it would not look much different from when you started. Whoever wrote the copy for this product was awfully punny. I would only consider purchasing this Luxury Kit if it dropped to $20. If that ever happens, I can review this kit. Most of the kits that start this overpriced eventually get slashed to 50% off. For those who own three or less products, I can see how $22.50 would make this worthwhile. Only two are new to me, so I am probably priced out of this one even when it eventually hits the sale section.

What are your thoughts on the 2019 Sephora Favorites Luxury Kit? Let me know below. Sephora does not inform any Beauty Insider of all promotions. It does list a great deal of them on its Beauty Offers page, but I list some it does not on my Sephora Deals Page. Between the ones it lists and the ones I list, you can catch most of them. Subscribe to emails to get targeted offers. If you’re spending over $25 online, there is always a promo code that you can apply. Most major events run on a set schedule, which is why I track them. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.

  1. Definite pass at the $45. I did hear/see today somewhere that Sephora will be soon allowing the combining of coupon codes (certain ones only), so more than one can be used.

  2. While Sephora could release more code combinations in the future, it is only allowing Rouge members redeeming the $100 gift card code they get in the Rewards Bazaar to combine it with a Beauty Insider code. You still cannot combine two beauty insider codes. What I am hoping is they will modify this before the next sale to allow us to redeem a discount code with a product code or multiple product codes when our orders are over a certain amount. We will have to wait to see what happens though.
