1. Wow, so very underwhelmed by the first quarter gifts the past few years. Ulta keeps making my preference for Sephora stronger. It is free, so I do appreciate that, and if I won’t use it I gift it, which is what I did last year and will this year because those colors will look horrible on my warm/yellow skin tone. I would not be so blah about a free gift if everyone got the same birthday gift or at least ones that were comparable in price and quality. But other quarters are getting vastly superior birthday gifts and that is not cool. Ulta brand is often cheap.

   I wonder if it is even worth trying to complain to Ulta’s customer service? I am sure people have before and yet we get another Ulta brand free birthday gift while other quarters will probably get something of better quality. I guess I will continue to chose Sephora over Ulta most of the time, that is probably the best way to show my displeasure.

2. We really deserve a quarter one win since we are the only quarter without one. The gifts changing each quarter had not fared well for us. This was a huge letdown for me as well. I have give and take with Ulta versus Sephora, because I learned yesterday that there is no tangible Rouge Welcome gift anymore. Not happy about that.

   The customer service reps cannot do anything about the gift, so I doubt they can help. Whoever is in charge of selecting the gifts clearly does not have a quarter 1 birthday. It is the worst gift almost every year.

3. This is bullshit! Every year 1st quarter gets the cheap Ulta brand gift, while other quarters get Nars, Urban Decay, and Lancôme! So unfair! I don’t use store brand makeup! Every year I call to complain, but they don’t care!! So pissed right now.

4. This is the third year out of the 5 with gifts separated by quarter that we got the Ulta branded gift. I just gave away the one from 2015 (after not touching it since 2015), and the one from 2018 gave me a whitehead by my lip. My expectations for this one are very low.

5. They shouldn’t do it by quarter. They should let you pick like Sephora does. This year , the Sephora bday freebie options are pretty good. But what do you mean about no more rouge welcome gift?

6. Yes, if they have to separate the gifts, picking the one we want would be nice. I linked the Sephora article in the other response. The Rouge welcome gifts were announced. None of them are tangible. They are all services.

7. I don’t think it’s fair, that some months get nicer gifts then others. February Birthday gift is worth a lot less this year, I know it’s nice to get anything free, but as a Diamond member who spends a lot, Doesn’t seem right. It would be nice to get to choose between a few different items.

8. I agree. Separating the gifts by month was a huge gamble. The only conciliation I can offer is the February gift is still a spoiler. Ulta has yet to make the official announcement. Until the official announcement comes out, Ulta can still change it. There is also a chance the spoiler is wrong. We will know for sure in a little over a week (or sooner if the Ulta announcement comes out earlier).

9. February b-day here and every year our gift is lame. If the spoiler is true it is even worse than the past 2 years. $6.99 value when both Jan & March are better than last year? Why do you hate February b-days Ulta? Why not mix it up or give a few choices like Sephora does?

10. I think offering choices is a good idea for multiple reasons, including the stark difference in value based on birth month. My son even asked me what I wanted him to do with eyeshadow. He would have used a skincare item though.

11. My Birthday is Jan. 29th but with the terrible cold weather where I live I waited two days, the 31rst, to redeem my Ulta Birthday gift. Though not excited I was expecting to receive the eyeshadow duo. I was shocked when handed a 0.06 oz. ‘deluxe sample’ size Lancome Monsieur Big mascara. Just thought I’d share.

12. That was the Quarter 4 gift from 2018. Your Ulta either ran out of the January gift and offered some leftover stock from last year or has some in for another reason, but I am glad you are happy about your substitution. That is my least favorite Lancome mascara. Although, my least favorite mascara in a brand with amazing mascaras is still better than some.

13. I cannot believe they stopped giving out a Rouge gift. Not even that red brush?! I really do wonder what the thought process is behind that. One would think they would want to try to make the Rouge members happy since there is so much competition with Ulta

17. I have a July birthday so I’m wondering what my choice will be. I’m not overly optimistic because I’ve been underwhelmed in the past. Although I think last year July was a NYX palette and that one was really nice compared to what I was expecting. It’s really bad business IMO to have such differing gift values month to month. One month gets low quality Ulta eyeshadow (I’ve tried to be objective about the Ulta brand but literally every brand product I’ve tried has been awful) while another month gets a super high quality Lancome face mask! Unreal! I simply don’t understand what’s the thinking behind offering such different choices. Ideally, they should offer the same 2, 3 or 4 options to everyone and let them choose the way Sephora does. Speaking of Sephora, I’m kind of underwhelmed this year’s choices. Disappointing since the previous year’s gifts have been incredible. The Bite Beauty birthday gift option they offered last year (or year before) got them my money going forward because I LOVED both Bite Beauty lippies in the birthday gift. I prefer makeup birthday gifts. I feel like it’s hard to decide if you love a skincare item from a small sample size but with makeup you know immediately if you like it or not. Therefore, I’m still undecided if I’ll choose Kat Von D or Drunk Elephant from Sephora this year (I’ve received the KVD liner a gazillion times during my last few years getting the Play! box so I’m not sure I want ANOTHER one). As for what the July Ulta gift might be….we shall see. I wish my birthday was 3 days earlier so I could choose the June Lancome mask haha!

18. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I love Genifique, so I’ve wanted to try that sheet mask for some time. It would have been nice to get that instead. It will probably be a few more weeks before we know the July gift. They tend to release two to three months at a time, but the new cycle does not come out until just before the new month starts.

27. July’s gift is a deluxe mascara. Who doesn’t have a million of them? With only 2 points per dollar and a mini mascara, it’s not worth my time.

28. I am not the biggest fan of that particular mascara, but I know a lot of people love it. If you have not tried it yet and a trip to the store is not inconvenient, you could pick it up. Otherwise, I get what you mean. Mascara is something I am always fully stocked on.

29. I have a January birthday and twice I have been lucky enough to be allowed to select the free gift from the previous month. I didn’t want the Ulta eye shadow and managed to get the Lancome mascara instead. The staff seemed well aware that the eye shadow was a disappointing “gift.” In 2017 I didn’t want the Benefit POREfessional face primer (at the time I was getting free samples of that with nearly every Ulta order) and got the Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy Eyeshadow–I was thrilled!

31. I went into the Ulta store in Valdosta, Ga to pick up my gift for October. I had my rewards card and i.d. to show my October birthday. I’ve always received my gift. However, since I couldn’t show them an email confirming my free gift, they gave me a phone number to call to get an email sent and then make a return trip to the store. FORGET IT! I walked into Sephora, showed them my rewards card and said I wanted to pick up my birthday gift. No questions asked and they wished me a happy birthday. I also purchased two more products while there. I don’t have time to jump through hoops! Also, it would be nice if you had two or three choices to choose from like Sephora.

32. Yeah, I wish Ulta did not require a coupon. My birthday is in March, so I also wish I could choose my gift like I do at Sephora. I would choose something better than what Ulta offers for my month.Happy belated birthday.

33. The discrepancies in value are absurd. The Tarte items have been full size. Im getting Velvet Teddy in a teeny mini that’s worth $10 while December gets a full sized Tarte mascara with a $20. Um.. I understand that these are gifts,but come on. We need an even playing field. Having said that, at least Velvet Teddy is a nice color. Anyway, thanks for the updates.

35. I know we got a full size product for Feb last year but I hated it. My lips were so dry that I only used it twice. Was hoping for skincare this year. Oh well what can you do? I’m thinking of signing my daughter up for an account. She’ll be 10 in July. Maybe she’ll get a better gift.

36. Yeah, I definitely prefer bullet lipsticks to liquid lipsticks. I find them drying, too. Sorry you do not like the Ulta February 2020 Birthday gift, but I hope you have nice birthday. Hopefully, the Ulta Birthday Gift for July 2020 is a good one.
