After I review my Empty Products, I like to take a little extra time to go over the standouts. These FabuFinds are products I love so much they seem like they’re made for me. They are items I would repurchase, even without a deal. Items I am loving but cannot finish any time soon make it into Deal Discoveries. To eventually spotlight all of my FabuFinds, I will never repeat items already mentioned in a past article. That does not mean they lost their magic. It is also possible an item not spotlighted in a past Empties article may get promoted as I try it more and fall deeper in love. Over time, past FabuFinds may get demoted as I find things I love even more. There are four products I consider FabuFinds in my Summer 2018 Empties that I have not discussed yet.
I love reviewing my empty products, because I usually know by the time I’ve finished something how I feel about it. Reviews based on first impressions can change, so empty product reviews are much more comprehensive. These are most of the items I finished during the summer of 2018. A few always slip through. For items that I neither love nor hate, I am always willing to try them again, but I will not seek them out. This generally means I will only try them again if they are: free, on sale, or in a set (sets are a great way to get a deal as long as the value of the items you want to try exceed the cost you are paying). Empties from my June, August, and October (since this went up later than usual) Foil Challenge are not here, because I wanted to avoid the redundancy. The pH of products I’ve tested this season are below. Visit the pH article for info on how I test and a list of everything I’ve tested.
Welcome to the place where I like to discuss my favorites from each season that I did not finish. Anything I’ve finished this season made it into my Empties article. Items I am still in love with as I empty them become FabuFinds. While I cannot promise I will ever finish these (some products expire before I can empty them) and I cannot promise I will still love them enough to label them as FabuFinds upon completion, I loved them throughout this season. These are items I reached for many times even though I have plenty of similar items in my stash collecting dust. Many of these items are serious contenders for my Top 10 of the Year. There were seven items I reached for constantly this summer.

Add-on selection for Winter 2018 already opens on Thursday. Even though some customers only take the quarterly box, these edit sales and Editor’s Boxes can keep other FabFitFun members in on the action between subscription boxes. FabFitFun held its Fall 2018 Edit Sale from October 1st through October 8th. It was a subscriber only sale where FabFitFun sold items from past boxes, past add-ons, and new items for 25-70% off. Annual subscribers had first access starting on the 1st, and seasonal subscribers got to shop the sale starting on the 4th. Under the Edit Sale, subscribers fill their carts throughout the event. A full day after the sale wraps, subscribers get charged for everything in their carts, tax in applicable states (starts in every state soon), and shipping (if their orders fall under $25 or go to overseas or international addresses). Items ship ten days after the charge gets processed (it is usually faster than this).
Sephora Play! is a subscription box that offers five deluxe beauty samples and a bonus foil packet or perfume vial for $10 a month plus tax. Shipping is free. Only items sold at Sephora come inside the box so most items are from well-known, high-end brands. While Sephora does carry a few low-end and luxury brands, they do not really appear in the subscription boxes. There is not a traditional rewards program with this box so you cannot get points for referring friends or writing reviews. It does award 10 Beauty Insider points to Beauty Insiders, 12.5 points to VIB members, and 15 points to VIB Rouge members. This box also applies $10 toward your purchase minimum to maintain your Beauty Insider status. Visit my Sephora page for descriptions on points and status. The $10 charge processes immediately for new subscribers and from the 1st through the 4th for succeeding months. Boxes usually ship from the 11th through the 15th.
A surprise extension on the holiday bonus for VIB and Rouge members was announced on 11/14/18. Read more about it.
It is time once again for the Sephora holiday bonus. The event kicks off for Rouge members today. This is my favorite Sephora event of the year, because I am unsure if the discount Sephora offered in August will return. We can always count on the discount in November though. When Sephora offers its discounts, it comes with very few exclusions, which I discuss below. Every year, the formatting changes slightly, because Sephora likes to keep us on our toes. A new format I have never seen got introduced this year. That format has a discount every weekend from now through the 19th of November. Similar variations (with less weekends) have popped up, but this is the first time where there are four weekends of shopping. I want to stay optimistic, so we will see how things go with all levels shopping separate weekends. The only other time Sephora attempted that people who crossed from VIB to Rouge during the event had problems making more purchases during the event. Hopefully, the bugs got worked out and those members will not have a problem showing their entire weekend.
One of the things I am always saying is you need multiple sources of information for those who want to make informed purchase decisions. As a huge source for products that have already launched, I like to read reviews. We all know some of them are fake. The overtly fake ones are easy to spot. Brands will usually encourage their employees or people they pay to write thoughtful, detailed, relatable reviews. That makes them harder to spot. I strive for all the same things when I review anything, but my goal is simple. Give people the information and let them do with it what they may. If someone intentionally reviews something other than the exact way it performed, or worse, writes a review on something they have not even tried, they have failed at their only task. You had one job! Write a helpful review. Unless all information is correct, you are intentionally misleading someone who could buy based on your recommendation. That is beyond uncool.
Birchbox gives at least 5 deluxe beauty samples each month for $10. Some boxes have more than 5, but anything over 5 is usually a foil. Boxes get customized to your beauty profile, and you can opt out of one type of sample per box during sample choice. All boxes are a mixture of haircare, makeup, and skincare. There are times when body care items pop up, and you can select an option to receive no more than 6 fragrance vials a year in your profile. You could get a box with 2 haircare items, 2 makeup items, and 1 skincare item or any similar variety, but you will rarely see more than 2 items from any category unless the third is a foil. If you are looking for a box that is mostly makeup or mostly skincare, this is not it. Those looking for a well-rounded sample box may enjoy this subscription.
Walmart Beauty Box is a subscription box delivered once per quarter. The items are given to you free of charge, and you pay $5 for the shipping. Your first $5 charges when you subscribe, and a box from the current season will ship to you within a few weeks. Future boxes will incur the $5 charge as the box ships. There are two boxes, Classic and Trendsetter. Within the two boxes, there is some variety. Newer subscribers may receive samples others got in past boxes. At times, you may even see a repeat in your box. There is no way to opt into a certain box. It does seem most younger women have the Trendsetter box while mature women have the Classic box. Some change their birthdate to possibly get a different box. I’ve always used my real birthdate. Walmart started me with the Classic box, but it switched me to Trendsetter boxes in the spring of 2016.
Every time I see an offer for bonus points at Ulta Beauty for the purchase of a specific brand, product, or service, I will update this article through 2019. It is already late in 2018, and I need a year to track new promotions. Before this, I had only seen the Bonus Point offers that applied to any Ulta purchase. These are targeted offers, so you will not receive all the ones I do and vice versa. You should always check the My Rewards section of your online account before you make a purchase, because I’ve found things in mine that I did not get an email on. If these offers are not listed there, they do not apply to you. Should you have an offer listed there that I do not, you have a targeted offer I was excluded from.
When the recent Edit Sale opened to seasonal subscribers, I noticed the Fall 2018 Editor’s Boxes had the Skyn Iceland Peel instead of the headphones. I purchased that peel as an add-on with the Fall Box, because I want to try it. Getting a second one before I even try the first did not really appeal to me. My youngest son was jealous of the wireless headphones my oldest son got from the Fall box, so I was happy when I saw a Facebook video showing they were in the Editor’s Box. As they were the main thing I was after, that single change from what I saw on Facebook versus the box in the Edit Sale was enough to pass. Fast forward past the Edit Sale. On a random check in the Shop, I noticed the headphones were back. It seems like the Skyn Iceland Peel is only available now for anyone from Alaska or Hawaii due to shipping restrictions. That meant it was time to order the box and surprise my youngest with his own headphones.
On 05/04/18, a Beauty Insider Community moderator at Sephora reached out to me to see if I wanted some free products. The answer to that question is always yes. Who does not love free products? Everything is always better when it is free. In exchange for the free products, Sephora and the brands want honest reviews. It still surprises me when Sephora reaches out to me, because I have not been active on the community in some time, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. I decided to wait until I tried everything for a while before I typed the review, which is why I am just now getting to it. This is my I’ve used these products a lot review instead of the typical first impressions. As a reviewer, I know I need to do better and turn things around faster for my readers and the brands. My goal for 2019 is to get reviews turned around faster and to wear makeup more often than I did in 2018.
This giveaway has concluded. The next giveaway has been posted, and you can also see the items this winner received there.
My hope is that my winner of this new giveaway will accept right after it ends, so it will arrive before Thanksgiving. If there is any delay, it will arrive after Thanksgiving. I have two brand new, full-size products for this giveaway and the winner can select the third full-size item from two options. Every item is something I already know and love, but I just do not need duplicates. The first item is a Laura Geller baked gelato swirl illuminator in gilded honey. When the chance to purchase a set direct from the brand popped up, I jumped on it. That was a sample I already loved. After that, I ended up getting another full-size in a kit. The second item is a dr. brandt pores no more Luminizer Primer. This is something I fell in love with after Ulta placed it on sale, but I still have a lot of that one left. When a second arrived in my FabFitFun Summer Editor’s Box, I debated on keeping it. With so many other ones I need to try, it will take me too long to get to this.
The third full-size item will be a choice from the Kat Von D Tattoo liner or the Lancome CILS Booster. I received both in my Sephora Favorites Superstars 2018 Kit. As I already own multiples of each, it will take me too long to get to these duplicates. My giveaway winner can pick the one s/he wants most, and I will place the other item in the next giveaway behind this one.
To make entry as easy as possible, I am only asking for a comment below from a subscriber. This means anyone who follows via WordPress or email. While I appreciate followers on all platforms (and may host giveaways on other platforms in the future), this is for blog followers. After November 13th, I will use a random number generator to select a comment. Each person will get a number assigned based on his/her first comment. As long as the person is still subscribed when the giveaway concludes (I can see your email address with your subscription) and responds to the email I send within seven days, that person will be my winner.
If the person selected is not subscribed or does not respond within seven days, I will keep drawing until I find a winner. I like to throw in samples with my giveaways, so I will ask some qualifying questions in the email to tailor a box to the winner.
This contest is only open to US subscribers, but I plan to hold an international one on my next giveaway. Those under 18 must get permission from a parent before commenting below. If I select you as the winner, I will confirm via email that you obtained permission before I mail anything. Good luck!
*These swatches came from my original items. The giveaway products are brand new.
My last winner has received her package, so I am ready to share what Kathleen received. She got the tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight & Contour Palette and a full-size HUDA BEAUTY Lip Strobe in Snobby from the Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip 2018 Kit. Her other items were samples or minis I selected based off the qualifying questions I asked her. If you are my upcoming winner, your samples will get tailored for you based on what I own by the giveaway conclusion. The ones she got were: OUAI Anti-Frizz Hair Sheet, Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray, Lancome CILS Booster, fresh Sugar Rose Lip Balm, Buxom lash mascara, Julep Gel Eye Glider Violet Shimmer, Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil, Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Total V contouring serum, Lipstick Queen Mauve Sinner, Living Proof Perfect hair Day Conditioner, Living Proof Perfect hair Day Shampoo, Benefit Cosmetics dandelion, Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy, Burberry My Burberry, Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle, bliss blood orange + white pepper body butter, Clarins Super Restorative Night Multi-Intensive Crème, and Clarins Super Restorative Day.
I am getting a really late start in October, so I will probably not finish this until sometime in November. The month I take off gives me time to catch up on any I miss in a challenge month, so I hope I am on time in December.
What do you do with all those foil packets you collect? I have so many foil packets and rarely use them, because I prefer not to make snap decisions. Like with everything else I do, I put thought and consideration into product reviews. Trying a foil is a great way to see if your skin reacts to the product, you cannot tolerate the smell, the consistency is annoying, or if there is anything about the product that bothers you. Sampling a foil and thinking you need to have that product in your life is rare, but it does happen. This is most likely to happen with products where you can see instant results. My plan is to try a foil of something new or something I have not used in a long time every single day during a challenge month. To give my skin a break from constant new products, I’ve decided to alternate months. After every month I complete, I will take one month off. Feel free to take part in this challenge with me. If you are a fellow deal shopper, I bet you have a lot of foils stockpiled in your collection.
Ulta releases so many beauty bags during the year that I split up the 2019 beauty bag articles into Diamond Perk Beauty Bags (available to Diamond members), General Beauty Bags (listed in the GWP section), Affiliate Beauty Bags (available to anyone who happens upon an affiliate post), Ulta Beauty Collection Beauty Bags, Platinum Perk Beauty Bags (available to Platinum and Diamond members), Friday Summer Treats, Skinfatuation Offers, and Beauty Breaks (4-6 hour offers). There are also targeted GWP Coupons (I receive on my account and share). Every time I see a Diamond Perk beauty bag though 2019, I will update this article. This bag full of deluxe and full-sized items is usually available with a $125 to $175 purchase. Platinum Beauty Bags release four times a year, but these Diamond Bags may release less often even once the program has a full year under its belt. Whenever I redeem one, I will write a separate article and link it to the offer below. Other Diamond Perks tracked in a different article. Sign into your Diamond account, add the bag, purchase enough products to reach the minimum threshold for the bag, and the cost of the bag will drop to zero.
