The major 10x points event for Diamond and Platinum Appreciation takes place on Monday, August 20th. Select items get 10x points one-day only. Everything excluded from 10x points gets 5x points. Diamond and Platinum members get free shipping on every purchase for this event. Smaller 10x points events happen throughout the year. Platinum members always get a 0.25x bonus multiplier, so they get 10.25x points. Diamond members always get a 0.5x bonus, so they get 10.5x points. Ulta Beauty runs on Central time, so the deals run from 10pm – 9:59pm for those of us on the West Coast. Get ready to shop to on Sunday night, because a lot of the better deals will be gone by the time you wake up Monday morning. Very few deals get leaked ahead of time for this promotion, so we never really know what is included until the event link goes live.
August is a slow month for specific multiplying offers, because of this event. Typically, if you have a specific offer for 5x points (on something specific) leading into a 10x points event, you know that it is not on the 10x points roster. You could still get 9.25x points (5x + 0.25x + 4x (5-1 to remove the duplicate base) as a Platinum member or 9.5x points (5x + 0.5x + 4x (5-1 to remove the duplicate base) as a Diamond member for anything you have a specific 5x multiplier on.
A Platinum member born in August would get 11.25x points (on 10x points eligible items only), 10x Event Multiplier +0.25x Platinum Bonus (this bonus never multiplies) +1x (2x-1x to remove the duplicate base) Birthday Bonus. This event grew from 2017 to 2018. It also grew from 2016 to 2017, so we are seeing an upward trend. Based on this, I expect next year’s event to get even bigger.
Ulta Beauty gave its 20% off prestige coupon before this event last year. It did not arrive before the event this year. If you choose to forgo this event to wait on the 20% coupon, read the paragraph below this to see if that is really your best bet. Though you would save more instantly with a 20% coupon, you could earn 2000 points good for a $125 redemption without a huge investment. In other words, a large purchase during a 10x points event could bank many points that could result in a greater discount on a future order.
During a 10x points event, a Platinum member with no other multiplier could earn 2000 points with a $195.12 purchase. If the Platinum member cashed in 2000 points at once for $125, that is a 64% return on investment. In the same event, a Diamond member with no other multiplier could spend $190.48 for 2000 points. That would be a 65.62% return in investment if cashed in at 2000 points.
