Master pH (Potential Hydrogen) List of Products I’ve Tested

At the end of each season, I will conduct pH (Potential Hydrogen) tests on all empty products that still have liquid in them and compile a master list here. The pH of each product will also appear behind the review of each empty article the product appears in. Type the product name into the search bar to find the corresponding article for the review. It is possible I will occasionally test products that are not yet empty. Place your testing request in the comments. I will test it if it is a product I own, and it is already opened. Opening and/or purchasing a product just to test it is not something I will usually do, because the expiration countdown starts the moment the product opens.

Until further notice, I am using the following Micro Essential Lab test strips: Hydrion pH 0.0 – 13.0Hydrion pH 3.0 – 5.5, and Hydrion pH 5.5 – 8.0. Those who would like to test their own items can search for these on Amazon or use the direct links above (I’m not an Amazon affiliate). They do meet my expectations so I can recommend them. Testing products lets us know potential hydrogen ions in them. Products at 7 are pH neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic, and lower numbers are more acidic than higher ones. Everything above 7 is alkaline, and higher numbers are more alkaline than lower ones.

Skin is naturally acidic and usually sits between 4.5 and 6.0. This varies per individual. Facial skin is usually between 4.0 and 5.5. Vaginal pH is usually between 3.8 and 4.5. Hair usually sits between 4.5 and 5.5. This acidity helps us prevent harmful bacteria from thriving on our skin. It also helps the skin repair and heal itself. When skin is out of balance, our natural shedding process gets detoured. When beauty products are close to our skin’s pH, they are pH balanced. The beauty of using pH balanced products is it creates less work for our skin to stay in balance.

If something ultimately works well for me, I will use it even if it is out of balance. My one exception is with vaginal products, because falling below 3.8 can lead to candidiasis, a yeast infection. Going above 4.5 can lead to vaginal bacteriosis, bacterial vaginosis. It is important to note that it is normal to go above 4.5 before menstruation and after menopause. With the pH of semen, menstrual blood, and so many other things already higher than our vaginal pH, using only pH balanced products whenever possible is best for those who have trouble staying in balance. When I have two products that work equally well and one is pH balanced, that is usually the one I will purchase.
