Ulta February 2018 Platinum Perk GWP Beauty Bag Review

See all 2019 Ulta Beauty Promotions, Deals, Coupons, GWP, Sales, and Events.

I track all Platinum Beauty Bag offers, but I also review the ones I redeem. This is a review of the February 2018 bag, which is still available for free to Platinum and Diamond members with a $150 online purchase. While the beauty bags include mostly deluxe samples, they do at times include full-size items and foils. There are no foils in this one, but there are 4 full-size items. Ulta claims this has a $276 value. Whenever there are errors in Ulta’s list (as there are here), I will only correct them in review articles (like this one). The tracking article will always have Ulta’s original list.

The 02/05/18 Platinum GWP Bag Includes:

The full-size Ofra Cosmetics Full Size Pop-Up Palette retails for $15. I like the design, and the way it opens. With its magnetic closure (the right side is more magnetic), it probably will not open during travel. That said, powder was everywhere and others had their blush break. Even though the palette closes, there is way too much loose powder for me to believe this is travel friendly.

The 0.07oz Blush Godet Pan in Peach is worth $6. Ofra does not sell these mini sizes and Ulta does not carry them at all. It surprised to see the Godet pans are the same size and retail for the same price as the regular blushes Ulta does carry.

The full-size 0.5oz OPI Full Size Nail Lacquer retails for $10.50. Ulta lists the shade as N-Iceland, but I received The Taupe of the Iceberg. I will upload a swatch tomorrow when I have better light. This is a purple based taupe so I will file it with purple polishes.

The full-size 0.18oz NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk retails for $4.49. I love this product, because it really makes the shadows I place on top of it pop. This product lasts a long time so it will be a while before I need this one. Since I’ve had the other one for a while, I will save this in case the old one goes bad soon. If you are using this, set it with a translucent powder before applying shadow on top. That is the key to taking advantage of this white base without any creasing.

The 0.03oz Urban Decay Travel Size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion is worth $15. I love that Urban Decay is so generous with the sample size of this. It is 75% of the full-size, and I receive this sample often. Perversion is one liner shade I will never have to buy. This one may find a new home. As much as I like that this is a great, smooth, black eyeliner that does not really smudge after it sets, I just do not need another one.

The 1.6oz Rituals Yogi Flow Foaming Shower Gel Sensation is worth $3.55. This scent, which is amazing, is no longer listed on the Ulta site. Hopefully, it comes back. These foaming shower gels by Rituals bring me pure joy. It is like a spa in my shower from the scent down to the luxury feeling of the cleanse. Store them standing up though, because they will explode if stored sideways with other items on them. Whenever I see a GWP or a sale on this line, I usually get it.

The 3oz Hempz Original Herbal Shampoo For Damaged Hair is worth $5. I recently gave a sample of Hempz Shampoo to my sister. Her hair looked frizz-free and shiny. She said she is buying it as soon as her sample runs out. There are times I seriously hate my stockpiling, because it will be a while before I can try this. Too many ones I’ve had for longer need to go sooner.

The 1.5oz DevaCurl It’s That Good Super Cream Coconut Curl Styler is worth $8.24. My hair is wavy on the top and curly on the bottom. With a good curl cream, I can bring about decent curls. This is one I have not tried yet.

The 1oz Redken One United Multi-Benefit Treatment sells in this sample size for $10. This is a sample I’ve received before but have not tried yet. I should have a review soon, because I only have one more product to get through before I open this one.

The 1oz Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray is worth $3.41. My hair is thin so I will try this. Ulta mistakenly has this listed as a hairspray.

The 0.25oz Kate Spade New York Walk On Air Eau de Parfum is missing from my bag. For those who received it, it is worth $6.99. It disappoints me that this was left out, because I really wanted to try it.

The 0.33oz Elizabeth Arden White Tea Eau de Toilette is worth $5.20.

The 0.0529oz Tarte Double Duty Beauty The Lip Sculptor Double Ended Lipstick & Gloss in VIP is worth $21.16. This is so close to the full-size. If it was not labeled SMP for sample, it probably could pass as the full-size. I may come back and add swatches, pictures, and reviews, but for now, I am keeping this product new.

The 0.5oz PÜR Get A Lift Firming Facial Cream is worth $9.75.

The 0.25oz First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydrating Serum is worth $9.

The 0.5oz Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray is worth $4.71.

The 0.14oz Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant is worth $6.

The 0.2oz Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal is worth $5.67. Ulta mistakenly lists this as 0.34oz.

The 0.14oz full-size Lime Crime Diamond Crusher Lip Topper in Lit retails for $18. Ulta mistakenly lists this as a mini 0.14oz Matte Velvetine Lipstick in Sasha. The full-size on those Velvetine lipsticks is 0.088oz so 0.14oz would have been larger than full-size for that product. I am unsure if I will keep this, because I’ve heard a lot of bad things about the brand. Using something I received for free is not necessarily supporting the brand, but my fear with trying a brand I am against is I will love the product and want more. Both the packaging and the product look beautiful.

The 0.04oz Too Faced Sweet Peach Cream Peach Oil Lip Gloss in Pure Peach is worth $5.43. I am working on an article about lip balms, scrubs, and oils. This is one of the products in this exact shade I was planning on purchasing for the comparison series. Getting it for free is amazing. Look for that article for the review. It will be extensive so I need another month or two before I can get it up.

The 0.237oz IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness is worth $5.69. Although I am warm, there is a lot of red on the surface of my skin. This is a cream I want to try. It does not look very thick so I will save it for warmer weather.

The 0.17oz StriVectin NIA 114 Multi-Action R & R Eye Cream is worth $22.10. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from this line so I have high hopes for this.

The 0.06oz NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments in Starwoman is worth $8.67.

The 0.2oz MAC Strobe Cream in Pinklite is worth $2.40.

The 0.24oz Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II sells in this mini size for $16. This is a thick serum so it helps with hydration, and my skin does look brighter when I use it.

The 0.16oz NO 7 Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi Action Serum is worth $5.39. I’ve never tried a neck serum so this intrigues me. It would intrigue me more if it was not a combo face/neck serum.

The 0.098oz Ulta Matte Lip Cream in Striking is worth $7.35. Ulta mistakenly has this listed as 0.31oz, which would have made it bigger than the full-size. I am writing an article on liquid lipsticks. If this is a liquid lipstick, the review will make it into that article. It will take me a few months to complete it.

The 0.1oz Philosophy Ultimate Miracle Worker Fix eye power-treatment fill & firm is worth $13.60.

The 0.0008oz Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Mini in Medium Brown is worth $5.60. Ulta mistakenly lists the shade as Brunette. I thought about giving this away, but I like having options on my brow pencil shades. If I color my hair, I have a pencil ready to go.

There was one item in the bag that was not advertised. My guess is the bags without the Kate Spade perfume received this as a substitute. Considering the Kate Spade was a deluxe size and this 0.05oz Tory Burch Love Relentlessly is a vial, I think it is a poor substitute. At least, Ulta added something to make up for the missing item. This is worth $3.2o.

The first coupon for $5 off a future $15 Ulta Beauty product purchase I encountered expired on 02/01/18. There was a second coupon in the bag that does not expire until 02/01/19. That gives plenty of time for everyone to redeem it. With all the beautiful Ulta products they make, I will definitely redeem this.

The Purple Python Cosmetics Bag, which measures 7 1/2″ H x 10″ L x 2″ W is stunning. This is a bag I would easily purchase for at least $10 if I did not already get so many bags for free. I cannot remember the last time I bought a bag.

Ulta advertises the bag with a $276 value. The value of the contents with the Kate Spade perfume would be $259.90. Those who received the Tory Burch substitute received $256.11. Assuming Ulta is including the $5 coupon in the value (which I never support), it would bring the value to $264.90. To get the $276 value, the bag is worth $11.10. If I needed a nice bag, I would pay that for this bag. Thus, I agree with Ulta’s valuation of this gift with purchase. It is not the best Platinum Beauty Bag I’ve seen and not even the best one I’ve redeemed, but I am happy. It is still available if you are a Platinum member who wants the bag and is willing to spend $150 on other items to get this.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.

Deal or No Deal? What Do You Think?
