Birchbox puts out a lot of high-quality Discovery Kits. These are smaller versions of the Limited Edition Boxes and typically come in a clear TSA approved travel bag. A discovery kit is a themed bag with multiple brands curated by Birchbox. Some discovery kits, particularly the ones with all samples, are not worth purchasing. Of course, I usually buy them for hard to get items I really want to try or already love. As long as the value of the items I am keeping exceeds the amount I am paying, I will usually purchase the kit. Others are more than worth it.
I am not sure why, but the best bath ever kit is no longer listed in the Discovery Kits section. This is a $22 kit I purchased back in December when it launched. It is still listed for reorder in my order history, and I can add it to my cart. As such, I am reviewing it for you.
It is even possible to find low-price discovery kits with multiple full-size products where those products more than cover the cost of the bag. I like to check the section out periodically, because Birchbox does not always send emails when new kits get released the way it does for Limited Edition Boxes.
Like all Birchboxes, there is a product card that goes over the contents. The card always lists the price to purchase the full-size so you know what you’re getting yourself into before you try the sample.
The theme or name of the set is on the back of the card. This set is the the best bath ever kit.
It is a 7-piece set that retails for $22. Every item inside is for a perfect bath from cleansing (before and after) to relaxing (before and after). There are 4 full-size items and 3 deluxe sizes.
The 2.5oz Level Naturals Lavender + Chamomile Bath Bomb is full-size. It comes in a pack of 6 so this is worth $2.75. I purchased another Birchbox discovery set (which is no longer sold so I am not going to review it) that had these. Even though this is a small bath bomb, one is enough to fill the tub. This smells like lavender and leaves my skin feeling extremely soft. My only complaint is the chamomile leaves are not only scary looking (reminds me of bugs), but they could enter parts of your body you may not want them to. Though I will use the others I received in sets, I would not purchase this one again. That said, I would try others from this brand based on how well this little guy filled the tub with scent and softness.
The 2.5oz Level Naturals Lemon + Coconut Bath Bomb is full-size. It comes in a pack of 6 so this is worth $2.75. Once I try this, I will let you know how it went.
The 0.08oz thisworks® deep sleep™ pillow spray is worth $0.93. This sample is ridiculously small. I received a 0.17oz sample of this in a Birchbox almost a year and a half ago and fell in love. Although, I misplaced that one (again), there is still some left in it. A spray or two is all you need so even a sample this small should give you plenty of uses. My son recently discovered this from the full-size one I received in a FabFitFun box and asks me to spray his pillow almost every night. At that rate, I should go through it a little faster. Traveling with this or the other one (if I find it again) will be handy, because a different pillow spray leaked all over everything in my suitcase on a recent trip. This one never seems to leak. If you want to fall asleep quickly feeling like you are lying in a meadow, try this spray.
The 2oz Kopari Organic Coconut Melt is worth $10.86. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this, but I would not purchase it no matter how great it is. Pure coconut oil is not usually this expensive. That said, I am happy to try it to see how it compares to cheaper coconut oils.
The 3oz Sumbody Body Soap in Milky Rich is full size. It comes in a pack of 3 so a single is worth $5.95. I’ve used this soap brand in the past and remembering liking it enough to try it again. A lot of bars leave a sticky film on my skin. If this one left one or at least a really noticeable one, I would not have been open to trying it again.
The 1oz JUARA Kartini Body Oil is worth $14.50. I love body oils, and this is one I had not tried yet. On first impressions, it smells like mint and flowers. This is a thin oil, but it does seem to moisturize. Until I use this all over my body, I cannot offer a better review.
The full-size Birchbox Dry Body Brush retails for $10. This is for dry brushing so you rub it over your skin before bathing. Massage the brush in circular motions on legs, arms, and everywhere else before stepping into the shower. It claims to make skin softer and more toned skin, but it can also help your body shed excess water. I am not really sure it does any of those things, but I enjoy it on days I take a bath. Yes, it adds time to my overall routine, but I always spend a lot of time on bath days anyway. That is because I always shower right before I bathe. Relaxing while I am clean puts my mind at ease.
Whenever you spend over $35, you can add a free 2-piece sample pack to your cart. This combines with any promo code, because you add it directly to your cart. Discount promo codes are on my Birchbox page, but you can always view the Bonus Shop for GWP promo offers. Promo codes cannot be combined. Choose the one you like best. I did not photograph my sample pack, but I remembered one was a man’s sample and the other was a foil. Neither have any personal value for me. The promo code I used with this got me a free full-size Lipstick Queen lipstick. That was the biggest reason I placed this order, but that promo code, JUSTBITTEN is long gone.
This box has a $47.74 value. It is just under the $50 value Birchbox quotes. I paid $22 for this kit so it is a good return on my investment. My personal value is also $47.74, because I will try everything in this box. Although the soap and spray are items I’ve tried before, I like both enough to have more. These are all items I really want but would probably not splurge on at full-price. That is why I am so hooked on kits like these. I think this set is an incredible deal and highly recommend it if you love taking baths and pampering yourself.
