FabuFinds: Product Spotlight November 2016 Through January 2018

After I review my Empty Products, I like to take a little extra time to go over the standouts. These FabuFinds are products I love so much they seem like they’re made for me. They are items I would repurchase, even without a deal. Items I am loving but cannot finish any time soon make it into Deal Discoveries. To eventually spotlight all of my FabuFinds, I will never repeat items already mentioned in a past article. That does not mean they lost their magic. It is also possible an item not spotlighted in a past Empties article may get promoted as I try it more and fall deeper in love. There are 22 products I consider FabuFinds in my November 2016 – January 2018 Empties that I have not discussed yet.

There are a lot of products that are so overhyped consumers go into them with almost unrealistic expectations. Belif The true cream – moisturizing bomb was one of those. This cream actually deserves all the praise it gets. I have never enjoyed a facial moisturizer more in my entire life. As someone who has a 10-11 step skincare system, I do not need my moisturizer to have a bunch of stuff in it. My serums deliver powerful ingredients so all I want from a moisturizer is hydration and a lot of it. This delivers and by loading the cream with ingredients to deliver moisture and nothing else, it retails at a bargain $38. The best part is this is a medium density cream so my skin has never felt more hydrated, but it can also breathe in the winter. My skin never gets to breathe in the winter. It is (probably) light enough to feel great through summer, too. I look forward to testing it at the hottest part of the summer so I will purchase this in June or July.

When it comes to exfoliation, I have a hard time setting on a single chemical or physical one. I see the benefits of both truly believe the best exfoliation routine combines them. With dr. Brandt microdermabrasion, I get chemical and physical exfoliation in one product. ALA and rounded aluminum oxide crystals work together. It is so gentle that my skin never gets irritated. My skin feels soft and smooth after each use. When I use and a moisturizer regularly, my dry patches go away. Everything I apply after this always sits nicer and absorbs better when my skin is smooth.

The dr. brandt Power Dose D Sunshine Vitamin For Skin serum is slightly thicker than many others I’ve tried. That density helps my skin feel more hydrated where many serums do not. With the hydration, my skin does look more supple and feel more radiant. It does everything it claims and more, because my skin almost glows with this. I like that it is not too thick as oil based serums are, because everything I apply after this still gets absorbed by my skin. That is not always the case with really thick serums.

Sephora actually offers an exclusive that gives 35 Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peels for the same price as 30. I love when Sephora gives a 3-pack of these for 100 points so keep an eye out for that, and I will update my Sephora Small Point Perks Offers when I see it. This product combines 7 acids to smooth the skin. Unless I have open cuts (mostly from acne), this is incredibly gentle. Even with open cuts, it only stings a little. Step 1 exfoliates and step 2 balances the skin. Together, they make my skin glow. When my skin is going through a huge breakout, I turn to these. They magically breakdown the acne, because they clear my pores. My products always seem to penetrate deeper leaving my skin really refreshed on days I use these as well.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is an all over moisturizer for eczema, dry, or distressed skin. When my skin is at its driest, I reach for this. I haven’t tried this on my face yet, but I love it on my body. My skin feels so deeply hydrated, and the moisturizing lasts a long time. This is one of the few products I can almost still feel after a shower. That must mean that the hydration goes beneath the surface of the skin. Once I finally try it on my face, I will come back and report on how it went. When it comes to my face, I am always reluctant to apply products that also work on my body. It is just a hold-up I have so please let me know if I should just go for it with this.

Anyone looking for a long-lasting, deeply moisturizing lip balm with sun protection should consider fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15. A lot of lip balms that retail for around this price seem to slip right off within a couple of hours. While all the fresh, sugar lip balms are amazing, there is something really special about this one. When I put this on before I sleep, it is still on every time I wake up. Not all balms do that. Not even all fresh balms do that. This leaves my lips soft and moisturized. Even after the product rubs away, my lips feel great for a while. There are days I can skip lip balm altogether when this has worked its magic. My only complaint if I had to think of one is this container leaves behind so much product. A Q-Tip will help you get every precious drop, but the fibers sometimes come with it. If you are reluctant to spend $24 for this gem, I assure you can go through 2 $15 balms in about the same amount of time. Why? Unless you really want to or will be in direct sunlight for a while, you do not need to reapply this often.

The Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport Ultra Light high performance sunscreen 30 does not smell like sunscreen. Anyone who hates the way sunscreen smells but loves the way a tropical vacation smells should try this. I never burn when I wear this, as long as I remember to reapply on time. While it does leave a little shine to the skin, it actually looks healthy, not greasy. Because of the shine, I do not apply this to my face. If you do not mind a shiny face, this promises not to clog your pores.

Kate Somerville EradiKate works beautifully on most acne. If I have a particularly large pimple or cystic acne, I apply this before bed. By the morning, the large pimple is seriously reduced in size and the cystic acne has come to or is close to the surface. Those deep painful pimples are the worst. I will typically apply this a couple of times during the day if I am home, because you can apply it up to 3 times a day. When I have an open cut around my acne, this will burn. The top layer is alcohol. Other than a few seconds of burning, I have not experienced any negative reactions to applying this. That is helpful information to my fellow pickers.

The L’Occitane Amande Cleansing & Soothing Shower Oil is the highest price shower gel I’ve tried that is actually worth the cost. It smells amazing and feels amazing thanks to the almond oil. My skin feels very soft but still clean. Very few products give me the soft and clean feeling. This is one of them. When in comes into contact with water, the oil turns into a delicate foam. Many shower oils I’ve tried either lack a great lather or have more lather than thickness. This magically has both the lather and thickness of the oil. I have a hard time explaining the consistency so I just suggest everyone try this to see for yourself. There is nothing else like this, that I have tried anyway.

I really got into bath bombs this year. The idea of sitting in dirty bath water and upsetting my ph balance never really appealed to me. As long as I shower before I take a bath and am careful not to move around too much in the tub, I am comfortable. My nephew told me about this Etsy shop, LifeAround2Angels, he orders bath bombs for my sister at. I ordered 58 (50 small 2.5oz sizes and 8 large 4.5oz sizes) based on his recommendation. The Bath Bomb in Shea & Coconut was not necessarily even my favorite. It was just the only wrapper that made it into my empties container. They all have different scents and beautiful colors to brighten my bathtub. Like most bath bombs, my bathroom still smells great long after I’ve drained the bath water.

One important thing I learned is whether using her 2.5oz size or her 4.5oz size, they color my bath water beautifully. Unlike some bath bombs, my tub never gets stained when I use these either. Most of them leave my skin really soft. The owner of the Etsy shop lists the ingredients she uses in her bombs. Her recipe includes: Baking Soda, Citric Acid, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Olive oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Epson Salt, Kaolin clay, water, a touch of fragrance, cosmetic skin safe colorants and some topped with flower petals and glitters. Because some of them soften my skin better than others, I am guessing the amount she places in each bomb varies. I like her all natural ingredients and think her bombs are a great alternative to higher priced ones.

Some of you know I hate paying for shipping and there is no way to avoid shipping charges on Etsy. Supporting a small business by paying shipping and still saving over ordering a brand name is worth it. If you buy in bulk, it offsets some of the cost per unit. Hence, why I bought 58 from someone I had never done business with before. You can purchase some of these through Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime members do get free shipping, but the current price of $26.80 for 12 small bombs is already higher than the $20 she charges at her Etsy shop. Granted, if you only want 12 bombs, that is the way to go. Shipping through Etsy is more than the extra $6.80. I went through Etsy (despite having Amazon Prime), because I wanted flexibility and a 50-pack not offered with Prime.

Even as I journeyed into bath bombs, I never thought I would be into glitter bath bombs. Glitter going where it does not belong scares me. After seeing an in-store presentation of Lush The Experimenter Bath Bomb, I had to try it. This one is so pretty before and after. It is this bright pink and blue hexagon before it goes into the water, but it morphs into something completely different. All the colors blend together to create a greenish, blue shade that looks like a lake. When the sun hits the lake, it can almost look like glitter is in the water. That is what this reminds me of. It even brings back happy childhood memories of visiting a crystal lake. I love the way this smells during and after the bath. The vanilla and tonka scents melt into one another to create the most beautiful scent I’ve ever experienced in a bath bomb. For those who like to burn a candle while you bathe, and I am usually this person, forgo the candle with this one. It leaves my skin very soft. All Lush products do that. I actually liked the way the glitter that stuck to my skin looked. This is best for a night-time bath unless you want to sparkle like Edward Cullen in the sunlight. It all washed away nicely after my next shower, but I dazzled while I could.

I should have named the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen as a FabuFind a long time ago. Even though I’ve used this for years and repurchase this more than any other body sunblock ever, I had not given it the praise it was due. Unless I forget to reapply this on time, I never burn. It feels great on my skin, because it does not feel thick or sticky. There is almost zero shine added with this, too. Although I prefer this on my body, I have used it on my face. It never irritates my skin or clogs my pores. My face looks mostly matte and it does not leave a crazy white cast.

When it comes to drugstore products, there are huge differences in the cost based on where you purchase it. This Nexxus Humectress Replenishing System Conditioner is a lot cheaper at Target than it is at Ulta. I actually got it at Ulta during the Gorgeous Hair Event when it dipped to 50% off. This is one of the best conditioners I’ve ever tried. It leaves my hair very soft and manageable without weighing it down. Frizz almost completely disappears. The product claims to deliver moisture to smooth the hair, and it does both extremely well.

The Not Soap Radio To sleep full of sweet dreams (without waking up in a mad panic at 3 am) claims to smell like lavender and clementine. While I can slightly smell the lavender, the clementine is the star. This smells like sweet, oranges. Not just any oranges. Heavenly oranges. Clementine must smell like heaven. I am not sure how but everything I’ve sampled from this brand smells so amazing that I seem to like each thing I try more than the last. It makes me want to explore everything. For something that is not a soap, it cleanses extremely well. My skin feels great after using this. There are times when I wakeup in a mad panic at 3am sometimes. That is a side effect of being a Mom. Since trying this, I always think of this at 3am. Great marketing.

I am absolutely devastated that the Olay Regenerist Luminous dark circle correcting hydraswirl Eye was discontinued. The one I linked seems to go through Walmart via a third-party reseller and though it has the same name, the product looks different from the one I used. I actually had 2 of these and gave the second one away before I ever tried the first one. In my desire to try new things, I typically get rid of duplicates I am not already in love with. Had I known this would get discontinued, I would have hoarded the other one. This is a deeply hydrating cream that brightens my undereyes and makes them look plump thereby hiding the fine lines around them. When I ran out of this, I tried several other brands in my stash and none of them came close. I’ve aged a lot, but this eye cream totally hid it from me. Hydrated undereyes are the key to looking younger. Now, I am trying to find something, anything, that hydrates this well with a great price. When this was available, it retailed for $28.99.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid is extremely moisturizing. When I use it once a day, my skin is almost flake free. As someone with dry skin, I’ve struggled with flaky skin my whole life. If this did nothing else, I would already love it. It also minimizes the appearance of my pores, eliminates blackheads, evens out my skin tone, and helps with my redness (not as much as I’d like but more than when I do not use it). My skin is also soft and smooth so my serums and creams absorb better.

The Shea Moisture Sacha Inchi Oil Omega 3, 6, 9 Rescue + Repair Clarifying Shampoo is slightly more expensive at Ulta than it is at Target. I only buy this brand from Ulta when it has a Buy One, Get One 50% off sale, which is happening now. Because the price difference between Target and Ulta is not that great, I always wait for an Ulta sale and never pay the full price at Target. This makes my hair feel so squeaky clean like no other clarifying shampoo I’ve ever tried. That is because it lathers beautifully, which is especially impressive for a sulfate free formula. It has certified organic Shea Butter, Quinoa, and Rose of Jericho Extracts to give ultimate moisturization. Sacha Inchi Seed Oil also delivers hydration and leaves hair shiny. Very few clarifying shampoos leave hair shiny like this one. It claims to restore strength to the natural lipid barrier of the hair while rehydrating the hair shaft and improving the hair’s elasticity. I am not sure if that is true, but my hair always looks great, smells clean, and feels soft after using this.

The skyn Iceland Belmish Dots are clear stickers with Salicylic Acid. For $20, you get 4 sheets of 12 dots. That breaks down to $0.42 a dot or $0.42 every time you treat a pimple. These do work, because they stick very well. Even while sleeping, they mostly stay on. By keeping the medicine in place all night long, it is able to work better than something you apply and remove on your pillow overnight. I use these on stubborn areas regular acne treatments cannot help. They are formulated to rapidly shrink blemishes and soothe irritation, while absorbing excess oil and curbing the spread of acne-causing bacteria. Tea tree oil calms the skin so the blemish is not only smaller when you wake up, it is less irritated, too.

So many people sang the praises of these skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels so I purchased a set. I could not see a difference from my before or after when I used them. Someone suggested I stick them in the fridge before applying them to add to the cooling sensation. While that did make them feel cooler, I still was not sure they were worth repurchasing. With the last one I had from the pack, I applied them in the morning after spending the night before crying a lot. My expectations were not great, because I had tried them multiple times before without ever being impressed. This took away the puffiest undereye bags I’ve ever seen and made me look human again. They were so swollen when I put these on, and I could barely see any signs that they had just been swollen 20 minutes earlier after I removed them. For really puffy eyes, these are amazing. Now that I finally know when to use them, I already repurchased more. If you are looking for undereye gels that give a lot of moisture to dry eyes, these are not the ones you want. Until I find one good enough to recommend for that, I cannot offer any product recommendations.

I love all the The Body Shop Body Butters and though I am not a huge fan of eating Coconut, I love the way it smells. The only difference between the body butters that I’ve noticed is the scent. While I have yet to find a scent I did not love, all the body butters seem to perform the same. They are all really thick and are worth the extra effort to buff them into the skin. Whenever I use one of these, my skin feels so incredibly moisturized. This is a deep moisture that not only lasts a long time on the skin, but it makes my skin super soft to the touch. Even the next day, my skin still feels supple and hydrated.

The TonyMoly Changing Magic Foot Peeling Shoes were my introduction into foot peeling. I was convinced they were not going to work because after 7-8 days of wearing them, my feet had not started peeling. Then, I took a bath. As soon as I exited the water, my feet were peeling. They just needed a nice, long soak in the tub to get the ball rolling. On that note, if your feet have not started peeling within a week of wearing these, soak them. My feet peeled for almost a week after that. By the time the peeling was over, my feet looked great. Even my heels, which are usually a little rough were pretty smooth. If you plan on using this, make sure you do not need to show your feet in public for at least 2 weeks.

The Volition Detoxifying Silt Gelee Mask is unlike any mask I’ve ever tried before. It dries like a clay mask, but it leaves my face super soft like a moisturizing mask. Unlike your average clay mask, it does not completely dry down. That probably prevents this from sucking moisture out the skin. I left this on longer than the 5-10 minutes, it never completely dried out. Even though it does not dry down, it still seems to pull things out of the skin. My skin looked brighter and firmer so I can tell it purified as promised. There was no redness or irritation, and my skin just felt calm. As someone with dry skin who does still get breakouts from clogged pores, this is a simply beautiful product.
