DAILY GOODIE BOX Review -A Year Overdue

Brent from DAILY GOODIE BOX reached out to me in January of 2017 to see if I wanted to sample a box of freebies. The answer to that question is almost always a resounding yes. I love trying new things, but it is more fun to try them when they’re free. While the box was in transit, my Dad passed away. My Dad was my best friend and my favorite confidant. He gave the best advice, and I felt lost without him. To make matters worse, my husband accepted a new job far away from my friends and family. Moving Day to the new city was the day after my Dad died. Blogging was the furthest thing from my mind so I could not bring myself to write. Some say time heals all wounds, but I do not think that’s true.

It has been almost a year since my Dad passed, and my heart is in no better shape than it was the day it happened. In fact, it feels worse. During my free fall into depression, my husband decided it was all too much for him. He threw in the towel, and everyone else felt so far away. People tried to reach out, and I will always appreciate that. My figurative voice was gone so I was unable to express anything or reach out for help. Feeling all alone in the world is a hard thing to overcome, and depression is very lonely.

If my intro did not scare you off, I am moving on. My kids give me that strength, and I am finally in a place where I can forgive my husband for his abandonment. So, I sit here with my broken heart from losing the only two men I’ve ever deeply loved, a nurturing love with my Dad and a passionate love with my husband. Sure, I love a lot of men in my family and even my ex’s family. Without my baby brother and his wife, this year would have been a lot harder than it was. He’s always held a special place in my heart, and I will never forget that he let me go “Jackie Chan” on him without batting an eye. I say you learn to live with the pain and find strength from your loved ones and within yourself to carry on. It will always be there, but you need a support system to pick you up when you’re feeling down.

When Brent offered me this box of freebies, he did say the freebies are in exchange for a review. I actually like reviewing things and often review things with no incentive whatsoever so this is never a problem for me. Brent was very understanding when I told him what I was going through and planned on taking an extended hiatus from blogging. He even told me not to worry about the article, but I am a woman of my word. My review is very late, but I kept my word. In my grief, I temporarily forgot about the box. It arrived while I was away for the funeral, and I placed it out of sight when I returned.

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of free samples inside the box. The items are sent randomly so it was an extra surprise to see what they were. There are several programs that are similar to this one, which I go over on my Free Samples Page. Getting 11 items at one time from any sampling program is not common. This was a very generous box. The 11 items inside the box were a nice mix of household items. From hygiene, to household items, to snacks, and supplements, it was a well-rounded box.

I always like when boxes include coupons. If I love the item, I can purchase more.

My ex loves butter coffee so I got excited for him when I saw this coffee blocks better butter coffee sample. Sadly, I forgot about the box until after it expired. If anyone has ever tried this, please let me know. While I cannot see myself buying him gifts any time soon, I will relay the information if it is worth the purchase.

The Gorilly Goods Coast Sweet Curry Cashew and Fruit is an item I gave to my husband. It has: organic cashews, organic raisins, organic coconut nectar, organic coconut, organic curry, sea salt, and organic cayenne. Those are all things he likes, so it was no surprise that he liked this. I can do without the coconut and the cayenne so I would like to purchase a different flavor from this brand. They are available on the direct brand site and Amazon, but I am hoping to find them somewhere in person.

The Vermont Smoke & Cure Cracked Pepper Beef & Pork Stick was delicious. I thought the flavor was nice. It was surprisingly soft and juicy. As someone who snacks on beef jerky often, it was nice to have a meat snack that was not hard and dry.

The Herr’s Potato Popped Chips in Tangy BBQ were very good. They were super crunchy, and I really like the barbecue flavor. It is not too weak or too strong. There is not a heavy vinegar taste either. As good as they are, I would never place an Amazon order for potato chips unless they were the best chips ever. I can think of several chips I already like better, so I would not pay a premium and wait for them to arrive. If these were in stores, I would purchase them when I was in the mood.

The Nature’s Bakery Fig Bar in raspberry tastes like a clean Fig Newton. When I was a kid, I adored Fig Newtons. What ever happened to them. This tastes like that, but I can tell it has a lot less sugar. It was not as sweet. As a Fig Newton lover, this snack has a huge seal of approval. It is even better that Target carries it. If I ever remember, I will purchase some.

The Nellie’s All-Natural Laundry Soap is a miss. It did not have much of a scent and it did rinse clean. The problem is my clothes looked dull. Colors were not vibrant and almost seemed dingy. I am not sure it did much to remove stains either. This is a pretty basic laundry detergent.

The Jack N’ Jill Natural Toothpaste in Raspberry disappeared. I gave this to my son, because it looked like a kids’ sample. When I asked him how it was going, he had no clue what I was talking about. If I find it before it expires, I will edit in a review.

The Just Chill in Rio Berry was a lot better than I expected. It is not something I would purchase, but it is something I would drink if someone had one to spare. There is a fresh taste, and it almost is relaxing. I really felt a sense of zen when I was drinking it, but I do not remember feeling more focused. While there is carbonation in this, there is not a lot. You can taste the berries, but it is not overly sweet. When I am drinking something other than water, I want it sweet.

The XyliChew Spearmint Soft Chewing Gum was given to my husband. When I asked him what he thought of it, he said, “it’s gum.” I took that to mean it is not particularly special, but it is not bad either. My husband usually gives me vague and low effort reviews when I ask him to try products. It is funny, because he is a great reviewer about things he cares about. I’ve never known anyone who goes out of his way to review things the way he used to. He always said he cares, because it is his job to care when giving great reviews to anyone about anything.

The Dream Water Sleep Powder in Snoozeberry and Aloha Dietary Supplement Daily Good Greens Chocolate Blend are items I gave to my husband. These products just suited who he is more than they suited me. We separated before I got his review on these. If he actually tried them, I will edit in a review later. Now, that we are finally talking again, he may tell me what he thinks.

While this was far from the best review I’ve ever given, I did my best. The important takeaway is not what I thought about the products (unless you represent the brand, in which case I apologize for not doing better). It is that DAILY GOODIE BOX offers free samples in exchange for honest reviews. Writing an article is not required but members must review each item and the overall box on the DAILYGOODIEBOX site for future eligibility. Items requiring review are listed in the online profile. If you want to review products, reach out and see if you qualify. I really do not know how one qualifies, but I assume they want people with a social media reach. Shipping on boxes is always free as are the products inside. No credit card is ever required.

Other than the box of freebies, I was not given anything to write this review. The post is not sponsored, and neither are any of my other ones. The link is direct as I am unaware if they even have referrals. Take a look at other sites I trust for free samples. See all DAILY GOODIE BOX articles. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.

Deal or No Deal? What Do You Think?
