Ulta Love Your Skin 2017 Event January 8th Through 28th

The Glowing Skin Event (which was a broader event introduced in 2016 from the smaller Love Your Skin Events in previous years) is once again called the Love Your Skin Event. From 01/08/17-01/28/17, the event will feature daily steals and promotions that run throughout the entire period. These 3-week long promotions are common for Ulta. Unlike The 21 Days of Beauty and the Gorgeous Hair Event (which are also 3-week long promotions), the Love Your Skin event only happens once a year. Every year, I hope they will offer this in July, but they have not done so yet. I have not given up hope that they will start offering this twice a year as they do with other major promotions. Although, winter skin does typically need more TLC, so I think January is the perfect month to host the event if it only happens once per year. An event schedule is available online.

With all the events at Ulta, it makes sense that some of them have to go back to back or even run concurrently. The Liter Sale started before this event, but it ends at the same time this event ends. Hitting the $50 free shipping minimum is always easier when multiple promotions are running at the same time. Platinum members get free shipping with the purchase of any beauty steal. There is only one Platinum Perk (steals only Platinum members can purchase) announced in advance. Although I have seen events with only a single Platinum Perk, there is a chance of more Perks getting announced the day of the promotion. If any are added, I will update them below.

Ulta does make the Sweepstakes hard to win, and I only won once all year in 2016. That win was only a $5 off a $15 purchase (with exclusions, including all prestige). If it is that hard to win a coupon that is only slightly better than the standard coupon offered all the time, I imagine the better prizes are very hard to win. It is still fun to play.

Ulta had a link for skincare concerns last year. This section is not available outside the event, which is a huge missed opportunity for Ulta and its consumers. I played around with it last year and found it extremely helpful. It is also more intuitive than most sections on the Ulta site, because Ulta.com is generally not very user-friendly. If it repeats this year, it should become available by the time the event starts. There were also Try & Play Days that corresponded with the event last year. Customers who need more assistance selecting products can get somewhat customized help in-store.

All services (hair, skin, and brows) get 5x points during the event. This must be activated. It is a general offer, so it should appear on the home screen and the my account screen. There will be express skin treatments that qualify for this promotion. A 10-minute FaceFit Facial will be $10, and a 20-minute Micro Zone Express Treatment will be $27.

Select skincare will be buy one, get one 50% off. While many brands are participating, you cannot mix and match brands for each discount. The first and second items must be from the same brand.

Other than the Leaders Sheet Mask (which I will purchase for the first time during this sale), every steal featured is different from the steals featured during this event in 2016. It is unusual that there are not more repeats, so it is worth pointing out. A lot of people know certain items always get featured, so they wait for these events to purchase those items. There is a good chance we will see mostly different steals featured in the event next year. That said, many of these items have popped up during other promotions. If any of the featured items are on your must purchase list or you fall in love with them after purchasing during this event, pay attention to all Ulta sales. They may not show up during the next skincare event, but skincare items do make appearances during the 21 Days of Beauty. Some of these items appeared in past 21 Days of Beauty events.

Reviews of steal products I’ve tried (links are to more detailed articles about the product (if available): Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels (never really notice much difference, but I have not used them on days when my eyes are really puffy nor have I refrigerated them before use). Julep Night Shift Sleeping Mask is a deeply moisturizing night-time mask. It is one of the deepest moisturizing masks I’ve used, but my skin experienced a lot of breakouts when I used this. Although I cannot say they were related, I have to acknowledge that there is a chance. Unless you have dry-skin, you would not need anything this deeply moisturizing anyway, so do not take a chance if you are acne-prone. Tarte Maracuja Oil (it is hydrating when used with most face creams. There are some creams it cannot penetrate, so I need to switch the application order. This is not my favorite oil, but it works nicely most of the time. I do not get excess breakouts when using it, but I have dry skin). No7 Advanced Serum (the sample I tried was not big enough to see how well this worked, but it seemed nice. I may purchase it at some point to give it a decent try if I cannot get a bigger sample first. StriVectin Skin Revitalizing Favorites (I’ve tried 3 of the 4 items in this set. Two of the three are loves, and I really like the 3rd one. This set is a great deal for someone looking to explore the brand or someone who already loves the items).

I highly recommend studying the online brochure, because it lists all products (including items added after the catalog printed and items that are available online only). UltaMate members should also get a physical copy in the mail (that includes items for sale in-store and online). It is a good idea to plan your purchases ahead of time, so you are ready to strike the moment the deal releases. Ulta runs on Central time, so daily steals are available right at 10pm PST. That usually means steals from the previous day disappear right at 10pm PST. If you’re up past 10pm PST, that is the best time to order (unless you’re waiting to see if a Beauty Break or new gift releases in the morning). While the deals have run a little over, Ulta usually cut them off right on time. The best deals are usually gone when you wake up in the morning from people who started shopping right as the day switched over, so plan strategically. Waiting for the Beauty Break announcement with popular steals will usually backfire.

Rules for the sale. Ulta says each person can only purchase two of each steal. Placing multiple online orders (if the system prevents you from adding more than 2 of one item in a single order) or picking up in person usually gets around the limit. Although I’ve only ever received two at a time, I’ve missed out on Too Faced Sweethearts Blush and tarte Bronzer on days I saw multiple people buying more than two. Some stores may hold customers to the limit, but my store clearly does not. The most important rule is steals are 24 hours only and while supplies last. If they sell out in 10 minutes, that is it. You will not get a rain check and can only hope the deal you missed will repeat in the next event. Many deals repeat but plenty do not.

There are other promotions available in addition to the event. Sephora will also be announcing their skincare point promotion sometime in January. It is the month for skin, and with winter in full-swing, I cannot think of a better time to improve your skincare routine.
