The Ulta 2017 Birthday Gift Changes Each Quarter

New birthday gifts are available every quarter at Ulta in 2017 and 2018. Remember to check all birthday offers before your birthday arrives, because many retailers have great offers. Every quarter when the next gift announces, I will update this (and the main post). If you have not joined the UltaMate Rewards Program yet, join before your birthday to receive your free gift. Joining with a referral link will also give you $10 off your first purchase.
Platinum members receive a $10 coupon on their actual birthday (in addition to the standard gift), which is good toward anything without a purchase minimum. This coupon is valid in store or online. It will work once in store AND once online, because the codes are different. If you have questions about any Ulta Coupon, I go over all types. You will not pay anything in-store if your purchase is $10 or less. There is a free shipping minimum (usually $50 but it does lower at times to $35 or even $25) for online purchases, so only order online if you’re going over it. Shopping in store is the only way to redeem the standard and Platinum gifts at the same time.
All members get 2x points on every purchase the entire month of their birth. Yes, this offer combines with others. There is a simple breakdown of how points multiply on my Ulta Page, which also covers everything about the UltaMate program and shopping at Ulta. It is not as simple as adding them together, because base points and the Platinum bonus never multiply. The easiest way to look at this is you get a bonus point for your birthday, because the first point is something you’d get anyway.
There is no purchase required to receive a birthday gift, but it must be picked up in person. It cannot be added online, so the product links below are to view what you will receive if you pick it up in person. Adding the item from the link will not deduct the cost. Ulta mails a coupon (required for redemption) on your actual birthday, and it is good for 30 days afterward. The coupon will list the gift you are eligible for. If your birthday falls on the cusp of another gift, it is up to the store whether they will allow a substitute. My redemption period extends into the second quarter, but I preferred the Quarter One gift to the Quarter Two gift for 2016. Those with Quarter Three and Four Birthdays in 2016 were extremely lucky in 2016, so I expect them to receive better gifts in 2017 as well. Someone at Ulta really likes those quarters.
If your birthday lands in the Fourth Quarter gifts (October, November, and December), your gift is a 0.17oz It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara. Ulta sells it in this size for $12.
If your birthday falls in the third quarter (July, August, or September), your gift is a full-size NYX Birthday Palette (eyeshadow), which is an Ulta exclusive. Similar palettes retail for $19.99, but Ulta quotes this one with an $18 value. NYX has some great, quality palettes, so this is worth picking up. *Multiple people are reporting that Ulta is no longer offering the NYX palette to those with birthdays at the end of the third quarter. The replacement gift is Clinique High Impact Mascara. I am unsure why the gift was substituted but people are reporting that there is no stock at any store indicating the gift was completely pulled.
If your birthday falls in the Second Quarter (April, May, or June), your gift is a deluxe Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara. It is a new mascara that is not yet for sale at Ulta or elsewhere. Most full-size Lancome mascaras retail for $27.50. Assuming this is around half-size, it is worth about $13.75. Some Lancome mascara samples, like Hypnose Drama, are bigger than half-size and others, like Definicils, are smaller than half-size.
If your birthday lands in the First Quarter (January, February, or March), your gift is a 0.25oz Benefit the Porefessional. *Ulta sells the sample in this size for $12 (making the value slightly higher than the Quarter One Gift from 2016). This is a great primer on pores, but I do not suggest using it in areas with dry skin.
My birthday falls in the First Quarter, so I received this gift and the $10 coupon, which I am not doing an article on. In 2016, I used it to get a Stila Smudge Stick in Lionfish for $1 on 03/31/16, because it was on sale for $11 for the 21 Days of Beauty steal. That steal is/was available again this year on 03/23/17.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Deals Too Good to Pass Up 
Unfortunately, my birthday falls on close to the last day of Dec., they didn’t have the Urban Decay eyeshadow which is what I was supposed to get so I had to settle for a small sample size of the pore professional. I guess I shouldn’t complain as the Ulta perks are way better than Sephora.

The Quarter 3/4 gift for 2016 was amazing. I had a feeling they would run out early. It will probably be amazing again this year, so I hope they plan better. Getting a 0.25oz Porefessional in place of a full-sized Urban Decay Shadow hardly seems like a fair swap, but I am happy they gave you something. Happy Birthday!

The first quarter gift was a cheap shitty Ulta eyeshadow quad. Totally not worth it. So frustrating that they make it different every quarter.

That was the 2015 gift, and I agree. It was average at best. There was definite creasing. Jealous of the people who got Urban Decay shadows.

Ulta sends the coupons for the birthday gift on your actual birthday. As long as your UltaMate membership is valid and you choose to receive emails, your coupon should arrive on your birthday. Once you have that coupon, you have 30 days to pick up your gift. The staff will typically require that coupon to pick it up. Happy Birthday!

My birthday was last week. I was bummed about the Porefessional deluxe sample… Every time I order from Ulta I get a sample of that, sometimes it’s a one-time use card, sometimes it’s a small tube. I also use Benefit mascara so there’s usually some sort of gift with purchase that includes Porefessional Primer. I have tons of samples! Anyway I lost my prime status for 2017 so I wasn’t going to bother going in for porefessional primer (nearest store is an hour away), but a few days before I got the coupon for a free It brush with any purchase, so figured I may as well… I gave my coupons to the cashier, and when she was reaching into the box for the b-day freebie, I spied a few leftover UD eye shadows and BEGGED for that instead. I was thrilled to say the least! I spent $1.50 on nail polish remover wipes and got the $10 It make up brush and $19 UD eye shadow!

Yes, if you are already have a rewards account with a linked birthday, check your emails for the coupon. Call Ulta if you did not receive your coupon. They should be able to get you a replacement. If you do not have a rewards account yet or never linked your birthday to it, using your actual birthdate will not generate a coupon for 2017 (as they are sent on your birthday, not after). Some people use a date that is not their actual birthdate and using a fake future date would generate an offer when that date arrives. IDs are not required to redeem the gift, so no one will notice if you are not using your actual birthdate.

That’s a bummer, it seems like this 3rd quarter’s gift is WAY better than the first two quarters. Don’t get me wrong I love the porefessional and I use it all the time but I would have much rather received the eye shadow pallet.

No, the birthday gift is in store only, so there is no online link. The link is just for those who want to see if the item is worth a trip to the store. You have to go into the store anyway to get the birthday gift, so it would be a great opportunity to check out the other palette. If it is out, you can swatch before you buy.

The coupon is emailed on your actual birthday. It is good for 30 days afterward. If you signed up after your birthday, you missed the cutoff. You can contact customer service to see if they can reissue the coupon if you’re within 30 days. If you’re not within 30 days, you can always use a fake date to get the gift this year. They do not check your ID to see if it matches.

Last year I got a horrible colored Urban Decay iridescent purple-ish color…looks terrible on my skin tone. I definitely took one for the team last year. I literally threw it in the trash when I got home. LOL

I regularly place online orders (three orders of $100+ in the last 3.5 months). However, there are no Ulta locations in my area. Does this mean that I don’t get a birthday gift since I can’t pick it up in person?

Unless you happen to travel within the 30 days following your birthday, you cannot get the gift. They are only available in stores.

Midnight Cowboy was the gift for this time last year. If you were given a purple eyeshadow in its place, odds are they ran out and substituted a different Urban Decay shadow or the employee who grabbed your gift gave you a store sample by accident. While substitutions are rare given they usually want the coupon and the redemption to match perfectly, they do happen. Glad you enjoyed the NYX palette.

Also, this is prob no secret anymore, but… To get BOTH Sephora bday gifts (obvi you have to be signed up for the VIB pgm), I place an online order, and at checkout, (this can be done within 20 days or so of your bday), I choose One of the bday gifts. … Then, I go in store and pick up the other gift, (I think they ask for your email at the reg). That way I end up with THREE FREE BDAY gifts from Ulta/Sephora. Why not? I spend enough $$$$ at these corporations throughout the year! Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday 🙂 .

Yes, although I have never done that with Sephora, I have heard that it is possible. I did pick up the Caudalie gift at a Sephora JC Penney this year, and she never even asked for my Rouge account info. So, I also got the tarte one at a freestanding Sephora using my info. It was the first time I got both of the offerings. Someone said they are independent, so I could have picked one up at both even if she did take my info at the SiJCP.

That wasn’t the gift for September birthdays. My guess is your store was out of the NYX palettes and substituted your gift. If they did not collect your coupon for the NYX palette, I would try to pick it up again (assuming your store re-stocks or you have access to a different Ulta). Happy belated birthday.

I’ve been so excited about this. Just got my email, and my gift is s sample of Clinique mascara. What happened to the palette? I need another mascara sample like a hole in my head. I don’t think these are at all comparable.

Someone else mentioned getting a Clinique mascara as well. My guess is they ran out of palettes. I’ve never seen Ulta switch the gift within a quarter before. I’d think there would still be stock of the NYX palette left at some stores even if it is OOS at others. It also makes me wonder if that mascara is the quarter 4 gift, and they are releasing it early to people with end of third quarter birthdays. I will note this above. That is unfortunate. I agree with you on too many mascara samples. That is seriously one of the last things I would want as a birthday gift. Sorry. Happy birthday.

I agree that it seems a little disingenuous. As a deal shopper, sometimes I prefer Ulta and other times I prefer Sephora. Making a special trip to the store to get a mascara is probably not a good idea for most people, so I definitely prefer Sephora’s birthday gift. My gift in 2016 was also mascara. I only picked it up, because I wanted to grab something else as well. Otherwise, I would not have bothered.

I was all excited for the NYX gift, and I ended up with the Clinique Mascara. I’m going to to Ulta tonight, so maybe I can ask and see if they still have anymore of the NYX gift left. This is the first time my gift has changed and it really is disappointing.

Good luck. I sent an email. They said there were no more codes for the NYX. They said as an apology and courtesy, they would send a $10 gift card that I would have in 24-48 hours. That was 4 days ago. It never came. 2nd horrific ulta device experience. I’m done with them.

If they said there were no more codes, there is a good chance they got rid of excess inventory. I wonder why they abandoned a gift in the middle of its cycle. Sorry about your gift card. I’ve been offered gift cards for inconvenience before and they always arrived. The person you spoke to probably forgot a step if the card did not even go to your junk or spam folders.

You have 30 days from the date of your birthday to redeem. If it did not arrive in your junk or spam folders, you can contact Ulta to send you a replacement coupon via email (you can email or call customer service to ask for it). As long as it arrives and you redeem it by 11/10/17, you should be good to go. Happy belated birthday.
