Darlene, an intern at Tioga Research, contacted me to see if I wanted to take part in an aesthetics panel trying to standardize the ranking of the aesthetics of creams. When it comes to testing or reviewing things, I am always intrigued. It is one of the main reasons I love subscription boxes and trying new things. Studies can actually be a lot of fun, although I prefer studies or sampling when I actually know the product I am testing. She said, “This study is attempting to revamp the questionnaire and protocol to find a more reproducible way of gauging aesthetic properties such as touch, smell, texture, appearance.”
We had to test four products and answer a series of questions (keeping confidential for those in the study). The whole process took less than 20 minutes from start to finish. They want the results to touch upon panelist’s sensory modalities and standardize them throughout the industry.
There was enough product for the test, and I had a little of each leftover afterward. I tried to use each on my hands separately, but there was not enough of any for a single use by itself.
I needed to apply each cream to a quadrant on my hands and answer the corresponding questions. My husband snapped a photo before I worked the products in.
I enjoyed the study. Anytime I can help advance science or help findings without too much hassle, I am in. My boys always take part in studies at my alma mater for the same purpose. If you give your email when you return the study paperwork, you will be eligible to win a $25 Sephora gift card. Even without the chance to win something I would have participated, but winning would be nice.
If you want to take part in this study, you can contact Darlene at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d recommend this for anyone who loves to try new things. There is a possibility the results of the study will not publish. That makes purchasing any cream you sample impossible unless you are lucky enough to guess what the product is. Tioga may publish the results of this study, and if they do, I will probably purchase the one I like the most. All information on study participants will remain confidential even if the study results get published. To keep my results confidential, I will not tell you which cream I preferred, but I definitely remember the number I preferred. I will say that despite a lot of experience with products and samples, I was not able to guess any of the four I tried.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
