Julep May 2016

When it comes to nail polish, I am a huge fan of Julep’s five free formula. These polishes chip less than most, and the polishes themselves are a good deal when you have a Maven membership. They are quality polishes, so I would probably purchase them at $14 each if I did not have my Maven membership. Luckily, I do not have to pay that much. The color selections and polish finishes are more vast than almost any other nail polish line. Every month, they release nine new colors (unless they re-release one or two from the vault). I have not skipped a box since I first subscribed in May 2014, because I find something I want every month. More often than not, the nail polishes are what draw me in, but I like to try Julep’s beauty products as well.

Julep May 2016

If you’re not already familiar with the Julep Maven program, read my review. My subscription renews after three boxes for $59.97, or $19.99 a box. Paying month to month charges $24.99, so I like paying in advance to save $15 every three months. New Maven subscriptions allow you to swap products in, so I always suggest trying that. You can get a higher valued box with swaps. Assuming you really want an item you are swapping out, you can generally get it in the add-on section, so put the more expensive item inside the box. Plus, swaps make the box possibilities almost endless. Swapping also gives a subscription where you actually want all the box contents every time. If you cannot find enough items to swap in, skip the box that month and pay nothing.

Every box comes with a coupon code. There are usually 2-3 codes, and while I’d love if mine was always the best available, it is not always the case. I keep a listing of all promo codes I am aware of. My code is MAYCOLOR for a free color nail polish with a $10 purchase through 06/30/16. Candy returned this month, but there was no card of ingredients. It is probably a gum ball or a large hard candy.

Julep introduced tinted lip oils this month, and I really wanted to try them. Though Julep is known for nail polish, they have a very impressive line of lip products that cannot be overlooked.

Julep Regina is a nebula pink iridescent chrome. Of the 7 new colors released this month, Regina spoke to me. She is not like anything I already own and is quite stunning. The finish is smooth and semi glossy. It retails for $14. Compare this to other pinks in my collection.

Julep Mickey is a pink geranium ghost iridescent. While I ordered this specifically for the name (I’m a huge Disney lover), I love the whitish pink shimmer in the hot pink polish. The finish is smooth and semi matte. It retails for $14. Compare this to other pinks in my collection.

Your Lip Addiction in Obsessed is a tinted lip oil treatment. It retails for $22.

The color presents more pink than red, but I expected that based on the stock photos.

I am definitely a fan of lip oils, because they give the moisture of a lip balm and the color of the lip gloss without any sticky feeling. This one does leave a slight stain, but it does not have any staying power. As it fades, it does leave a beautiful, subtle stain.

If you select three add-ons, you get a free surprise item. There were not three items that appealed to me this month, so I decided not to select any. I usually get 0 or 3, because I can use promo codes and wait for items to go on sale and not buying everything I see in the add-on section.

The total box value is $50, and I only paid $19.99. That is actually a low value for Julep, but I wanted to try the new lip product and did not look for a more expensive substitute. Sephora makes a more impressive lip oil for less, so I will stick with that one. My personal value is also $50, because I will use everything.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (13 and 8) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 13-year-old to apply it.
