Today was the day I was most looking forward to in the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty. There are four steals happening today, and I wanted all of them. This is the first and last time I will probably purchase all four steals in one day. Of course, I was ready to go right at 10pm Pacific time (Ulta crosses each day over at midnight and runs on Central time). If you have not already laid out your purchase plans, I have all the steals for this event (gathered from multiple sources) laid out with some basic tips. I also go over a more detailed shopping plan from a previous event that applies to the different steals here.
There were three reasons I wanted to order right when the day crossed over. The first is this amazing GWP Alexandrea Garza put together. I had never heard of her, but someone was kind enough to mention the gift. Once I was able to secure a gift, I watched her video. She hand selected each of the 12 items ranging from deluxe to full-size. Although many are repeats of items already in my collection, this is the best GWP I’ve seen in a while from Ulta. The repeats just prove that she has great taste, or at least taste somewhat similar to mine.
The second reason is I was working with some crazy good multipliers, one expires today. My birthday is this month, so that 2x multiplier is valid through 03/31/16. Targeted offers are common, and I have a 5x offer for Benefit that expires on 03/26/16. I go over my 2015 birthday redemption and the 2016 gift I am about to redeem. Ulta started celebrating UltiMate club anniversaries.
My 12 year anniversary as an UltaMate Rewards member was on 03/20/16. Technically, the new program only started in my city in 2014 (2013 in test cities), but they use the original account anniversary. I received an offer for 5x points that said Happy Anniversary. It arrived on 03/12/16 and was valid through 03/19/16. This was not offered in 2015, although anyone with an anniversary in December received this offer in February when January and March anniversary members received theirs. Since mine expired the day before my anniversary, I am guessing these are going to be sent sometime in your anniversary month but may not work on your actual anniversary. Multipliers do combine. For a detailed description of how, read my program overview.
The Benefit items above received 10.25x points, which is 5x for the Benefit offer + 1x (2-1 to remove the duplicate base) for my birthday offer + 4x (5-1 to remove the duplicate base) for my anniversary offer + 0.25 (the Platinum bonus that never multiples). At $53, this yields 543.25 points. The Too Faced item and Philosophy item yield 6.25x, because I did not have a bonus offer on them the way I did for Benefit (at least that I noticed, which I will explain later). At $22.50, this yields 140.625 points.
The Ulta brand steal today (well, there are technically two), but the one I partook in is for Ulta Smoothies, Butters, and Scrubs. These are $5 each every Saturday during the event. I had a $5 coupon from a previous Ulta order that removes $5 off a $10 Ulta branded purchase. This works with the steals, so I put 2 in my cart and the coupon removed one. That means I received 2 for $5. My multiplier on this was also 6.25x. At $5, this yields 31.25 points.
My total point yield when I add everything together is 715.125. Ulta multiplies per item and rounds down, so the 714 is right where it should have been. I received a 5x points offer on Philosophy that started 03/19/16. Offers have must be activated before they’re live. Because I placed my order so close to midnight, this offer was not activated yet. Once Ulta added the points to my account (a couple of days later, which is the norm), they used the 5x multiplier even though I activated it after the fact. That means I got the full 744 I should have. This is another reason I love Ulta. Someone hand calculated this, because even though the points came up right, looking at the allocation is a hot mess. Thanks, Ulta!
The third and final reason I wanted to order right away is better steals go fast. I missed Peach Beach in 2014 and 2015. By ordering right when it released there is hardly any chance it will be removed from my order again this year. I may finally have a complete little collection. That is the only shade I am missing.
I did redeem 3950 in My Points to get a $25 gift card that I used on this order. That made my total out-of-pocket $62.06, which I feel better about. Next time, I want to wait until I have more My Points before I redeem though. Most of those points were somewhat easy to earn, but I did not like using 3950 to get a $25 gift card.
UPS misdirected my package, but it did arrive 10 days after I ordered. That is actually the normal waiting period, but it would have been nice to receive it in the seven days promised.
I got an email offer with a special product link for the Stila mascara.
I really like this mascara. It’s the best one I’ve used in a long time. My lashes look longer and more defined. There is no clumping.
It is email verified, but you are welcome to try it. This is a freebie that ends today or when supplies run out.
The items inside the free Alexa Garza bag (which came in clear bag that could work with TSA) were: a full-size 4.2oz Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment, a 1.7oz Kenra Platinum Blow-Dry Spray, a 2oz Philosophy Made Simple 3-in-1 cleanser for face and eyes, a full-size 3.4oz Michael Todd Kaolin Clay Detoxifying Facial Mask, a full-size 0.176oz Laura Geller Blush-N-Brighten in Sunswept, a 0.13oz Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Pillow Plump in Pinkwell, a 0.1oz Benefit Professional, a 0.06oz LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer, a full-size 0.09oz Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten, a 0.04oz Lancome La Vie est Belle, a 0.17oz Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezer in a Tube in Zebra Print.
Even though I already own more than half of these items, including: the eyeshadow, the mascara, the perfume, the bronzer, the face wash, the hair oil, the lip gloss, the primer, and the full-size version of these tweezers, I am happy with this bag. I can use duplicates of the items I love and gift the ones that were not overwhelming to me in the past, like the bronzer and mascara. It will be nice to try the two that are new to me, the blow dry spray and facial mask. Thankfully, this blush shade is new to my collection, because I adore Laura Geller blushes.
Thanks to the freebies in this bag and the steals, I received six color items in this order.
The LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer is something I purchased (in the same travel size I got free here). I do not use it often, because it is the typical orange shimmery bronzer I am not a fan of. This would probably make a better blush. If I remember, I will try it that way. I will definitely post what it looks like as a bronzer once I wear this again. Of course, I will use the old one, because I do not like the first enough to need a back up.
Kitten is one of my favorite eyeshadows. The champagne color with a slight hint of pink is stunning. It works well as a highlight or a lid color when I am after a really natural look. I do not have a picture of this, but I will add one as soon as I wear this again.
The Laura Geller Blush has a mirror in the top half of the circle and is clear on the bottom. This helps me see the shade without opening the blush. I love this even though I do like a full mirror.
It gives me a chance to stare at the beautiful product. The marble effect is always unique from blush to blush, but they are all stunning.
This is a slightly less orange and slightly more bronze (funnily enough as the LORAC bronzer above). After liking (not loving) this blush color, I decided to repurpose the bronzer above and try it as a blush.
The color looked a little less orange on than it did in the swatch. I do not mind an orange blush, so this was okay with me. As usual, this blush lasted longer than 3 hours, which is extremely long for a powder blush on me. That is why these are my favorite blushes.
I also received this lip gloss from Drugstore.com earlier this year, so I will not keep this duplicate sample. I just noticed I never attached a swatch to that article either, so I will swatch this and add it once I remember.
The Soap and Glory Gloss has a definite plumping effect. It tingles as it plumps, but the feeling while very noticeable is not unpleasant. This has a light peachy-pink sheen.
On a 5 scale, the formula is about a 1.75 in stickiness, so it is not too bad. My only complaint is it does not last a long time. Even without food, the tingling/plumping wore off in less than two hours and the actual gloss did not last much longer than that.
In addition to the free mascara mentioned above, I also received foils of Smashbox Photofinish Primer (which I seem to get every time I select the variety pack), and L’Oreal Color Vibrancy Shampoo and Conditioner. Both of which I’ve received a lot of. I started selecting skincare to get more variety in my Ulta samples. It is too bad they do not allow you to select your own. The free Benefit Bag with a $45 Benefit purchase is listed below.
It is funny to see the original picture with everything and compare it to this one of items I paid for.
The Benefit Cosmetics Majorette Cream-to-Powder Blush is a pink-peach shade that I swatched in person a while ago and loved. I love everything about this, including the little mirror in the incredibly kitchy packaging. While I will no longer buy something for kitchy packaging, I do not mind it if the product performs. Here is to letting it stay as beautifully on as it swatched.
It comes with a removable, breathable plastic cover that I will likely keep. Although the product looks nicer without it, I think it can help keep extra air out.
This cream to powder brush goes on like a cream but dries down like a powder quickly. Within 30 seconds of swatching, the picture already looked like powder.
I generally like to photograph blushes soon after I apply them, because they usually disappear within 2-3 hours. This photo was taken about 4 hours after application, and I can still see the beautiful blush. That is very promising, so my skin definitely agrees with the cream to powder formula. It is not as dark as it was when it was first applied (it was raining so I did not get any photos), so I plan to wear and photograph this again at some point. The peach shade is beautiful.
The Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Light/Medium is something I am sampling and loving from my September Birchbox. Even though the sample is small, it is lasting a really long time. Between that and really liking the natural but bold look of the product, I am okay with spending $24 for 0.1oz.
There are two GWP offers for Benefit. One is a free makeup bag (pictured above) with a $45 Benefit purchase. The bag, like most Benefit bags, is cute, but this is not the gift I really care about. A coupon for a free Benefit Brow Bar service (for anyone who spends over $50 on Benefit) emails within 72 hours of this purchase. My only caveat is it must be used by the 26th. That is not a huge window. People who purchase in person have to use it today though, which is a lot worse when a lot of ladies will be waiting to use this around people who already scheduled appointments. I received my coupon between 48-72 hours and had my service on 03/24/16.
The Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Peach Beach is the shade I’ve wanted most of the three. Although I love Candy Glow and Something About Berry, Peach Beach is the most subtle of the three. It is a peachy-pink with a bit of shimmer.
This creates a more subtle look than I thought it would. Of the three in the line, this is the most natural. It does have shimmer, which you can easily see in the swatch, but the shimmer almost disappears when it is on (unless it catches the light). When I want a natural flush, I will reach for this beauty. It lasts about 2-3 hours, which is the normal wear for most powder blushes on my skin.
The Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleansing Cloths are something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I am extremely stocked on cloths, so I skipped this in the past. It will take me a while to try these, so I am stockpiling again.
The Ulta Luxe Smooth Exfoliating Body Scrub in Coconut + Almond Milk was free with the $5 off coupon.
The Ulta Luxe Intense Hydrating Body Butter Coconut + Almond Milk was $5 today (and every Saturday throughout the event).
I will continue to post offers I am aware of, so no worries if you happen upon this post after the offers above expire. If you have questions about any Ulta Coupon, I go over all types. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
