By Terry Baume de Rose Review

This By Terry Baume de Rose Review will tell you why I love it so much. It’s the middle of winter. If you have dry lips like I do and have not found a perfect product for your lips, you are probably wondering what product can help. Thanks to a May 2013 promotion, I discovered the magic of By Terry Baume de Rose. With my order, they sent a 0.1oz sample. That seems really small, but it lasted for five months. Well, it was technically opened for almost eight, because my son took off with it somewhere in the middle of its life. I found it well over two months later mixed in with some toys. After opening it and seeing it had not been tampered inside, I assumed he just thought the jar would be fun to play with. I do not miss the days when he took off with my things. They may have finally passed. Knock on wood.

I purchased the full 0.35oz size Baume de Rose after finishing that sample. That was back in the day when it still retailed for $59. It lasted about a year before I purchased a replacement. My current jar ($60) was opened at the tail end of January 2015. At $60 for 0.35oz, this is a whopping $171.43 an ounce. They have a 12 month shelf-life, so I was hoping to have this finished by the end of this month. If it goes a few weeks or even a month over, I am chancing it. There is no way I am tossing any of this unused unless my lips start falling off. Then, I may consider it.

All joking aside, I use my finger to apply it, so I will not go too much over the period after opening. The bottom has taken on a little wear and tear, but I remember it used to say 12 months. How does it make it a year without running out? I usually only apply this at night after I wash my face. It would probably run out faster if I did not use other lip balms throughout the day. If it was not so expensive I would use it more throughout the day. I actually increased use over the past few months when I noticed I had more left by that point than I did with the previous jar. Even now, I rarely walk upstairs to retrieve it for a middle the day application, but I will apply it if I am upstairs for some reason.

By Terry describes this as a protective repairing balm that offers complete lip care and regenerates nail contours. I always apply excess to my cuticle beds and love it there as well. The problem is I almost always apply to my left cuticles (because I am right-handed). This may actually work better than cuticle cream. Even when using this with other cuticle creams, I’ve noticed my left cuticles are always softer. It is an intensive formula concentrated with restructuring and soothing Essential Rose Wax, nourishing and emollient Floral Oils, hydrating and anti-aging Bio-ceramides, anti free radical, and protective UV filters.

All of the ingredients work nicely to leave my lips soft, supple, hydrated, and feeling great (temporarily). The dry patches always return, so I am unsure this is a true repairing balm as claimed. Granted, I’ve never really used it more than a couple times a day over a long period to test that theory, but I will use my next jar more often and edit this if my findings change. It feels great while it is on, and that is all I really care about. Even lotions and creams that promise to heal never really seem to do so. If I skip one application on my hands post washing, I do not care how good the product is, my hands feel terribly dry until I reapply. That does not mean I am writing any of them off.

I also really like the way it smells and tastes. No, I am not eating it. Anything you put on your lips is bound to end up in your mouth, and I hate when it tastes bad. Other lip balms get repurposed to become another product when I hate the taste, like Kiehl’s and Air Repair. Those are now used on my cuticles, elbows, knees, etc. When I open the jar the rose smell is strong, but that smell almost completely dissipates the moment the balm touches my lips. Thus, it is not overpowering, and I find it pleasant.

I wonder how soft my lips would be if I applied this more than once or twice a day. When I do apply this, it leaves my lips soft and supple without feeling sticky at all. It also lasts a really long time, especially at night. If I put this on before bed, my lips still have product on in the morning. Most lip balms are not still on when I wake up the following morning. Day time wear is not as long-lasting, because eating and drinking makes it fade a little faster. There are other day time benefits that really makes this balm a day or night multi-tasker.

If I am not wearing makeup that day, I will occasionally apply it in the morning after I wash my face. I skip it altogether if I put makeup on, because I prefer not to apply anything over this. This is pretty enough and feels comfortable enough on its own. I am wearing this lip balm in the picture below. If I find a better picture (or take one down the road), I will edit it in here. As you can see, this balm creates a light pink sheen that is neither matte, nor shiny. It is almost like satin. The overall look is pretty, and the SPF 15 makes it a great day time balm.

Thankfully, I have two 0.1oz samples. When this is gone, I get a mini reprieve before dropping another $60. My husband really loves when I buy this, too! As much as it pains me to drop that much, I do not mind when I get it with an excellent gift with purchase. Eventually, you get to a point where your stash is insane and you no longer need a massive GWP to justify haul. That is when you look for a discount. There is a 20% discount at I will probably repurchase this with (when it comes out). Have you ever tried this? Do you love it as much as I do?

* closed on 09/30/16, but I can still get this from Birchbox or Nordstrom.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.

  1. I absolutely love mine too! I use it especially when I’m traveling as a lip/cuticle balm. The smell is lovely, the right amount of floral in my opinion. My 12 months is up in summer and I haven’t even hit the 1/2 mark on it 🙁 I’m on a mission to finish it now 😀

  2. I tried to increase usage when I saw my expiration was approaching, but I do not think I am going to make it. I will give it a valiant effort though.

Deal or No Deal? What Do You Think?
