Some of you may have already read my Birchbox Gifting Series where I sent Birchbox subs to all the women in my immediate family. My family is not small, so it was a big project that I mostly enjoyed. There were parts that were less enjoyable but sharing my love of a box filled with surprise goodies with people I love was awesome. Apparently, I made an impression on one. She liked her boxes so much that she wanted to return the favor. As I am already an avid Birchbox lover and collector of all pretty things, she decided to make a box of her own for me by browsing my articles to see what I like and do not already have. Her gift was very thoughtful, because it screams me and she put a lot of time into the research.
She even used Christmas paper to wrap an entire shoebox, so “her box” had its own special design. I was very impressed that she even wrapped the inside of the lid, because it makes the box look seamless and perfect even on the inside. It is also something I’ve never seen before. Added bonus that she did not write my name of adhere a gift tag, because I love reusing boxes when they are not damaged. Reused boxes are beautiful and practical.
First, let me start by saying I have no idea how she knew I love Hello Panda Chocolate Biscuits. Thankfully, my local Target carries these, so I partake when my kids do not finish them off before I get to them. The outer cookie shell is perfectly balanced with the sweet chocolate inside. These are wonderful.
I love chocolate, granola, raspberries, strawberries, and most organic food, so there is a great chance I will love the Nature’s Path Love Crunch Premium Organic Granola Dark Chocolate and Red Berries. This is really good. The dark chocolate adds a lovely bit of sweetness without an overpowering richness. When you get a piece of fruit, it adds a tad of tartness. All flavors blend together nicely for a wonderful taste overall.
The thinkThin Protein & Fiber Hot Oatmeal Honey Peanut Butter seems interesting. I like honey, and I love peanut butter. This really tastes like peanut butter. As a peanut butter lover, I enjoyed that. It is really good and something I would gladly purchase.
I have boys, who both love Pirates. Pirate Flux The Ever-Changing Pirate Card Game will probably brig them endless fun. They love board games about as much as I did as a kid, so we usually play without their Dad who is not a board game person.
Last but not least, she got me a colored lip balm. Lippies are my single favorite beauty product, because you can pop it on quickly for a makeup look when you’re wearing nothing else. It is also the beauty product I own most. Thanks to Target, I received two Revlon lipsticks this year. The Revlon Matte Balm is new to me.
The packaging itself is ridiculous, but I understand why. To prevent people from swatching or applying random lipsticks, it comes sealed in heavy-duty plastic. It took me about two minutes to release the top (I wish I was exaggerating). When I pulled the lid, a tiny piece was still stuck causing the lid to nick the bullet (the reason it looks funny in the picture). That was nothing, because it took another 3-5 minutes to remove the rest of the plastic. I could not get scissors in there, and my ability to gnaw at it with my teeth did not work either. When I forcefully released the last piece, the thing flew out of my hand and landed on the floor. Thankfully, I opened it downstairs, so I could wipe it off the wood floor. On the floor, it looked very pigmented, which is impressive for a balm.
After removing a healthy chunk of the top to prevent myself from eating floor, I was in business. Unless I love the formula, I will not buy any more, because I do not want to go through that much trouble for an average balm. This is a Revlon Matte Lip Balm in Standout, 250. It is a burnt, brick-red that has a touch of berry coloring. In other words, it is a stunning color. I love balms, because my lips are so dry. While I do not always reach for mattes in lipsticks, I prefer them in balms. Unlike other matte products that highlight my dry patches and accentuate lip lines, matte lip balms typically do not. High shine balms are similar to lip gloss, which I already have plenty of.
I was extremely impressed with this product. It is very pigmented for a balm, and the color lasted on my lips for over seven hours without reapplying. Although it was not as vibrant, it was still very noticeable. This formula is extremely moisturizing, so balm is the appropriate name for it. My lip lines were not accentuated and dry patches were not highlighted. There was still a hint of shine, but it really did apply more matte than your average balm. In other words, it was not super matte (which is wonderful to me). I liked the shade on even more than I did in the swatch, because it wore more red than I expected. Thankfully, it was worth the effort it took to get into this package.
Going in, I know I already love one item. I am impressed with three of the other four. We still need to play the Pirate game. If she happens upon this article, thanks again. It really means a lot to me that she put so much thought into gifting me her “custom box.” Creating custom boxes for gift recipients is something I actually do often, and I highly recommend it. Every recipient thus far seems to love it, and I actually put five together this Christmas (and photographed zero). Next year, I will share ones I make. There is no way she could have known I did this though, because I have not written about them outside my giveaway. She has never received a custom box from me either, so this idea was all her own!
