Every year Sephora awards Beauty Insiders with gift cards. It almost always starts at the beginning of December. These are similar to actual gift cards, but they do have a purchase minimum of $50. Beauty Insiders get $15, VIB clients get $20, and Rouge Clients get $25. If you keep your purchase right at $50, the discounts come in at 30%, 40%, and 50% respectively. The best part is you enter the number into gift card field, so you can redeem the promo code of your choice. That makes this offer better than straight discount codes that you fill into the promo code box. It is the single best deal of the year at Sephora.
This year, the gift card redemption period is from the 2nd through the 13th for BI members. VIB and Rouge clients can redeem through the 14th. Everyone should receive a gift card via email or mail. Some will receive it from both methods (although the number will be the same, so it can still only be redeemed once). Others may not receive it at all. If you are a beauty insider who signed up before 11/01/15, call Sephora before your redemption period expires. They will give you the card and pin number over the phone or place the order for you.
I was finally going to get the Kevyn Aucoin Contour Book that went out of stock before I could purchase it during the Rouge sale. It went into my cart on the 8th when I placed this order. By the time I pressed the order button about 20 minutes later, it was out-of-stock. That left me scrambling for other items to buy. My first thought was Bite Beauty Opal, which I’ve wanted for a while. The sale section helped me come up with my other item.
Popular samples tend to get substituted. Sephora houses multiple warehouses and inventory is not de-listed until all warehouses report they’ve run out. Most of my orders come through the Salt Lake City Warehouse, which tends to run out of samples faster. If I really want a certain sample, I throw a nail polish into the order. It takes a few days longer to get the order, but almost all nail polish orders come through the Baltimore warehouse where samples stay in stock longer.
The 0.07oz May Coop Raw sauce is something I really want to try, but I took my chances sans nail polish. Sadly, the gamble did not pay off. As of today (12/11/15), the Raw Sauce is still listed, so I could still place a nail polish order. My other substitution for the 0.04oz Atelier Cologne Madarine Glaciale is not so bad, because there is a sample of that in the bag. I was going to keep one for myself and give the second to my husband. He loves most Atelier fragrances. Since I only received one, I will just give it to him after I sample it once to see what I think.
I do wish substitutions made a little more sense, because I have no use for the 0.02oz Kat Von D Lock in Foundation in 54 Medium. That is at least a dual sample with a 0.02oz Lock It FeatherWeight Primer. It will be used. The 0.05oz Clinique Moisture Surge extended thirst relief would have been my fourth choice if I had a fourth, so I am glad that was the substitute. Thankfully, I did get the NUDE Skincare Detox Brightening Fizzy Powder Wash sample I ordered. This is something I’ve wanted to try since it was first introduced.
Many of you already know I am terrible at saving points. There are always so many goodies to try. The Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Universal Daily Peel pads are worth $9.60. That is actually a really decent value for a 100 point perk. This set includes three one-time use sets. I prefer the extra strength version or the medi-spa version, but these will do.
I actually used one of these for the first time in a while earlier this month. These are gentle peels, so you really need to use them regularly to see results. Earlier tonight, I used the first of this set and will use the other two soon. While I have never used these everyday as directed, I do start to see improvement in hyperpigmentation and skin texture using them twice a week for at least 3 weeks. If they were not so expensive, I’d use them every other day.
I am also overstocking on oils this winter. The funny thing is I probably have more than I can use within the shelf life, yet I keep buying them. This is a problem of mine. An oil I have not tried yet is this 100 point perk 0.17oz NUDE Skincare Progenius Omega Treatment Rescue Oil. It is worth $11.56, so I hope I get to use it on time.
When the customer appreciation bags released, I was really only interested in bags 2 and 4. Ultimately, I decided on bag 2, because there were 3 items I really wanted inside that bag. There were only wanted 2 from bag 4. Bag 4 was the first to run out of stock, so I probably should have placed a second order right away to get it. BI clients can use PARTYPICKS to select one bag of their choice. VIB and Rouge Clients can use VIBFAVORS to select one bag of their choice. Since all VIB and Rouge clients can use the benefits of BI clients, they were able to use each code once to redeem two bags.
When it was time to redeem for gift card, there were no VIB promos I wanted that I had not already redeemed, and I usually avoid most of the regular promos. Occasionally regular promos have a nice value, but they usually do not. Thus, I decided it was finally time to redeem a bag using my VIB code. The only bag left was the one I was least interested in. Seems like the beauty community agreed with me on which bag was the least desirable. The bag itself is a smallish pleather, black, scale bag. It is actually a cute bag, but I really do not need two of them.
This bag is actually still available if you want to redeem it and have not used either code you’re eligible for. Getting 8 samples for one order is a good deal, so I can always gift the samples I already own or am not interested in. Mistletoe Moments includes: a 0.25oz Fresh Soy Conditioning Eye Makeup Remover, a 0.003oz Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner in Black, a 0.16oz Buxom Mascara Bar in Full & Fabulous™, a 0.16oz COVER FX Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment, a 0.17oz Burberry Fresh Glow in Nude Radiance No. 01, a 0.04oz Chloe Love Story, a 0.067oz Atelier Cologne Collection Azur – Mandarine Glaciale, and a 0.3oz Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Total V Contouring Serum.
I’ve wanted to try Bite Beauty Opal Crème Lipstick for a while. Matte lipstick is rarely my thing, and I’ve seen how this transforming shade can give shimmery life to even the most matte lipsticks.
Even on its own, this makes lips look fun. In the swatch, I see where the white glows with purple and blue iridescent hues.
I was going for a Winter Wonderland look, so I wore Opal on its own. Like most Bite lipsticks, it is very moisturizing and rubs off a little faster than I’d prefer. Due to the very light color, it does accentuate lip lines and dry patches on my lips. This would be such a great lipstick to wear alone to look cold. There is a much clearer picture of this lipstick below.
The item I found in the sales section was the Buxom Look All You Want Set. It includes the Buxom® Eyeshadow Bar palette with 6 0.05oz shades, a 0.2 oz Lash Mascara in Blackest Black, and a 0.04 oz Hold the Line™ Waterproof Eyeliner in Call Me.
When Buxom first released the option to place six custom shades of your choice in a palette, I wanted to get one. The shade I wanted most (a beautiful green shift) sold out almost immediately. Whilst waiting for it to re-stock, reviews starting coming in. They were pretty mixed with a number of people I trusted saying the shadows were not high quality.
Buxom still sells palettes you can customize for $40, but it also takes the guesswork out by putting some sets together. The six shades it put together in this set are absolutely beautiful and four are new to the line. Someone obviously touched the purple shade, so I will sanitize it as best I can before using it.
The shades slide right into the palette with ease and snap in for safe placement. There is a mini brush and mirror inside.
I really love the purple and green (even though it is not the same green I was initially attracted to). Surrounding them with neutral shades will probably help offset the pops of color. Like all custom palettes, I can reorder shades I finish or trade shades out if I am not feeling any of them.
The funny thing about this palette is it is somewhat close to the colors I would have picked for myself. I would have switched the purple for an orange, but all the other colors would have been similar. That is how I knew this was perfect.
The shades are: Opal Opulence (iridescent ice), Sequin Sparkle (sparkling pewter), Top Shelf (shimmering plum), Penthouse (metallic evergreen), Style Icon (metallic taupe), and Gimme Gorgeous (matte camel).
These swatches are with some decent swirling to build pigment. I wish I could say these were one swipe. Even though I had to build the color, they turned out lovely. The green is definitely my favorite, and I thought Opal Opulence combined with Bite Opal created a beautiful Winter Wonderland look. We went to see Santa the day I did this, so it was a lot of fun.
This palette applied beautifully and wore wonderfully. It did take a few strokes to build pigment. I actually used the purple to give some definition to the outer crease, so this look used all but the matte camel, Gimme Gorgeous. The shadows were still crease-free when I removed it at night. My pictures do not do this palette justice, so I am attaching one of my husband’s shots. He makes Bite Opal look more beautiful as well.
Once I wear them, I will report back on how it went. So far, I am happy with the purchase. The shades are great, so I did not mind losing the option to customize to save $11. It also gave me a free full-size eyeliner and a free deluxe mascara, which will both find nice homes.
Sephora does not inform a single Beauty Insider of all deal details. Certain offers are targeted and others have different purchase minimums based on the code. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
