Who does not love mystery samples! Okay, I know some people do not or more people would have Subscription Boxes. I have a love/hate relationship with mystery samples. Sometimes I find gems I never would have picked if I got to choose. Other times, I get the leftovers no one wanted. After passing on the last Sephora Cyber Weekend Mystery Sample Bag, I decided to partake this year. The bags will be available until stock inventory runs out, but they are available now using promo code SURPRIS3 with a $25 purchase.
Bags vary, and I’ve seen a lot already. The bag is a cute, mini satin drawstring. There are two designs, but all Americans get the one pictured below with Oh What Fun printed on them. Canadians get the cute Black and Gold ones that match my MIXITUP Promo Bag. Americans get 7 samples from foils to deluxe and one full-size, single use Sephora Sheet Mask. I am happy that I like mine best of all the ones I’ve seen so far, so I got a great bag. Both items I purchased to get the bag were items I’ve wanted to try for a while, but I did not want either at full price.
The contents of my Sephora bag are: a 0.41oz Clinique even better makeup in 05 neutral, a 0.06oz Buxom lash Mascara in Blackest Black, a 0.03oz foil Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil, a 0.05oz foil Origins GinZing Refreshing eye cream, a 0.03oz Clean Cashmere, a 0.04oz Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia, a 0.08oz Shiseido Perfect Rouge Parfait in RD142, and a single use 0.84oz Sephora Rose Mask.
This Clinique is probably too dark for me, but that is a very generous sized foundation sample. I will not open it to test it. If I can get to a store before handing out Christmas gifts, I will use a tester to swatch it. Assuming it is way too dark for me, I may include it in a Christmas Box I put together for my sons’ teachers. The Buxom Mascara will also grace a Christmas Box, because I already own it. I really like the Josie Maran Argan oil, so that will get used for sure. The Origins sample already exists in my stash, but I have not tried it yet. If I like it, I will keep both.
Both scents are new to me, so I will keep both. My husband likes some of the Atelier scents, so I may even give that one to him. The Sheseido lipstick is new to me. I do not own any, so I really want to try it out. Although I’ve used the Sephora Rose Mask in the past, I do not have any now. This is very welcome here.
I really like the color, too. It is a light burnt-red, coral.
This wore well. Nothing fell into lip lines, and it did not accentuate dry patches. I found it slightly moisturizing and relatively long lasting. While I love the soft finish, I thought the color did not wear as pretty as it did in the swatch. It is a color I would not mind wearing, but this is not a color I would purchase
I also really wanted the three samples I selected. One got substituted, but I am happy it was the one I already own and just wanted more samples of, the YSL Touche Eclat. That is a popular sample, but it gets subbed more than it gets fulfilled. In its place, I received a 0.03oz Dior Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. This is a sample I already own, so I will gift this to someone else.
The 0.05oz foil of Guerlain Lingerie De Peau Liquid Foundation SPF 20 in 02 Beige Clair will probably be the perfect color for me. I really look forward to trying this, because I’ve sampled the wrong color in the past. There is no size on the TokyoMilk Dark Femme Fatale Collection Tainted Love No. 62 Eau de Toilette. It is the same width but shorter than the Clean Cashmere, so I guess it is 0.02oz. That is really small, but you only need a little perfume to test. This is a new sample to me.
The 16oz philosophy Shimmering Snowlace Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath is something I wanted to try last year, but I did not want to pay more than $1 an ounce for it. This seems like it will be a great scent for Christmas. Sadly, an explosion in my soap bucket is forcing me to use certain soaps now. That means, I will probably not get to try this until next Christmas. I probably bought a year early, but I have no regrets.
I love my Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer. Mine is shimmery. The one inside this palette is matte. That means that they are technically different.
The newest Park Avenure Princess Palette has Glisten Blush, which I already own. That makes this older palette including: a 0.21oz tarte Park Avenue Princess Matte Bronzer, a 0.015oz tarte Posh Blush, and a 0.015oz tarte Champagne Gold Highlighter perfect. They are all new to me.
The swatches of the bronzer and highlighter are impressive. I am not super impressed with the blush swatch, but Tarte Blushes usually do very well when they’re on.
I used the palette to create this look. The bronzer is a bit more yellow than I generally prefer, but that beats orange. I need to remember to do a side by side of the matte bronzer in this palette and the shimmer bronzer of the same name I already own. That ones seems less yellow, but the shimmer may make it seem that way. The blush in this palette is a little lighter than I prefer, but it builds. This highlighter is a little darker than I prefer, so I used a light hand.
I am very happy with this order and think you should take the risk and order the surprise bag if you have not already. There are a lot of great promo codes available now. If you’d rather not take the risk of getting a bag that may not work for you, this is the only time of year where there are three other other promo codes for bags of samples. If you have not already redeemed them, you may still have time.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
