If you have to buy it, get the best deal!
I tried not to re-qualify for Sephora VIB Rouge until the end of the year, but I got really close. After getting there on July 12th last year, I’d say November 26th is a huge improvement. Fingers crossed for December 31st next year. During the VIB Rouge sale, I purposely stopped short of qualifying thinking I would make one last purchase when we get our $25 off $50 gift cards. The Black Friday deals were a lot better to me this year than last, so I was not able to pass them up. There were two that instantly caught my eye, which I mentioned in my Black Friday Deals article.
If you missed the Black Friday Deals, there are still two great upcoming promotions. All Beauty Insiders will get $15, $20, or $25 off a $50 purchase starting soon. The 26 Days of Delights should also start around December 1st. That is the promotion where Sephora offers a different promo code every day for 26 days. It is the A to Z promotion. There are a lot of great Sephora promotions already out available on my Sephora promotion page. The Cyber weekend surprise bags are available now, too.
I ultimately decided to pass on the face masks. As much as I love getting a good deal on sheet masks, the savings of $8 paled in comparison to the other items. My desire for sheet masks was strong, so I ended up getting some from Amazon two days later for a lot less (article coming). Getting these deals that leave as quickly as they come is rewarding. That left me with two deals I really wanted, the Clarisonic and Tarte and one I got because the value was so high, the Nest. Those rollerballs could make nice gifts if I decide not to keep them. Getting the third deal also qualified me for a promo code. After adding promo MIXITUP, where I selected the gold and black striped bag with 12 foils, I checked out. This promo was available with a $25 purchase.
My confirmation email did not arrive until minutes before my shipping confirmation arrived around 5pm (over 19 hours later). The only other times I did not receive an order conformation right away is when the order did not go through. I looked in my order history and was happy to see the order did go through. Yay! However, the promo code I carefully selected to get the bag I wanted was not listed. When I placed the order for my Snow White Mirror on 09/15/15, my promo code also fell out. After three calls about a week apart, I was able to get my promo shipped separately. While both pieces of that promo were in stock when I placed the order, only one was in stock a week later when I resolved the missing promo. That means, I only received half the promo.
What can you do if the promo code you entered does not show in your order history? Calling is best as you will see below. Hoping I could get this issue resolved before the bag I wanted went out of stock or worse all bags went out of stock, I sent an email. I received a response stating there is a high volume of emails and a response may take a while, so I sent a private message on Facebook. It surprised me that Janean from Sephora responded to my message within half an hour. She did not completely understand what I was writing, so I had to write her back and try explaining it again.
Justin responded the next morning stating orders cannot be altered, and he was sorry I forgot to add my promo. I responded that I have never forgotten to add a promo, but I would call in now that the phone lines were open. The lady I spoke with understood what I was saying and told me she would expedite a request to have the item shipped to me separately. My hope was it would be easier than it was last time. A few hours after I spoke to her, a response to the email I sent the night before came.
This email claimed the order never went through. I admit I chuckled, because I have an order confirmation and it shows in my history. She was also the first of the four people (two on Facebook, and the lady at the Rouge line on the phone were the first three) who claimed that. Knowing I already got the ball rolling, I decided to ignore the email. The phone call did the trick, because I received an email a few hours later with the order confirmation listing the bag with no charges.
All of that happened in less than 24 hours, so although I corresponded with four different Sephora employees, my issue was resolved. The package arrived ahead of schedule on the 30th. Getting it so quickly was wonderful, and I was already surprised when my Thursday night order arrived on Saturday. Orders rarely come on Saturday as it is, but coming a little over 36 hours later when I ordered on a holiday is very impressive.
I cannot even remember which bag I voted on earlier this year, but I think there were eight options. Of the three Sephora decided to print, I find the black and gold stripes most attractive.
The Sephora bag itself if a little smaller than I pictured, but it is still bigger than an Ipsy bag for reference. You can get a feel for the size by seeing it next to the samples. All samples were inside the bag, but the YSL had to be placed in at an angle to fit.
It includes: a one time use Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in Medium Beige, a 0.006oz SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful Blush in 05 Sweet On You, one time use of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original, Eden, Minor Sin, & Anti-Aging, one time use of Yves Saint Laurent TOUCHE ÉCLAT Radiant Touch in Nᵒ1 Luminous Radiance, Nᵒ2 Luminous Ivory, & Nᵒ4.5 Luminous Sand, a 0.1oz beautyblender liquid blendercleanser®, a 0.33oz Living Proof Prime Style Extender™, 0.13oz samples of Fresh Soy Face Cleanser & Soy Conditioning Eye Makeup Remover, a one time use NUDE Skincare Progenius Omega Treatment Rescue Oil, a 0.1oz Skin Inc. Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask, 0.05oz samples of Ole Henriksen 3 Little Wonders (truth serum™ collagen booster, Invigorating Night Gel, and Sheer transformation® brightening moisturizer), a 0.07oz Kate Somerville ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment, and a 0.03oz Versace Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette Spray.
I admit the samples did not interest me much (I really wanted another bag I will never use), but they look nice laid out.
The blush is a beautiful Coral Pink, and I was surprised how long it lasted on my cheeks. Most blushes fade completely in less than three hours, but this was still going strong over three hours later. It really makes me want to explore other colors.
A few of them are new to me. I actually look forward to trying the liquid Beauty Blender Cleanser. The solid version is decent. Exfolikate is always welcome here, so I love getting samples of that whenever possible.
I love how the first picture makes it look like I ordered a lot of things. When everything is out of the containers, it looks like a small order.
Before placing this order, I was only $9 shy of re-qualifying for VIB Rouge. That is the $1000 spending level at Sephora. If you’re unfamiliar with the benefits of the program, read my overview. This officially pushed me over, so I will be Rouge at least through 2016. When you qualify for VIB Rouge, you qualify for the rest of the current year plus all the next year. If you re-qualify (as I did here), you extend your status one calendar year. While the real benefits of being Rouge are always up for debate, no one can dispute you get a free welcome gift.
If you qualify online, the add-on will pop up at times. Sometimes, an add-on will not pop-up. Click here to add it or you can add it in the checkout screen. Click the link under Beauty Insider Rewards (just above where you list your shipping address). It says Select Your BI Rewards now. Your Rouge gift and other point perks are inside. Select the gift (and any other point perks that catch you eye). The store you’re shopping in can give you the welcome gift right when you qualify if you do so in person. It helps to know when you are about to cross over, so keep an eye on your account.
Click “my” account in the upper left hand corner from any screen to navigate to your information. The upper right part of your account screen lets you track all of your points and spending. Again, you just need to click the link you want. In this case, it is My Points & Status. If you’re qualifying for the first time, doing so in store is more convenient. The welcome kits in store also come with your brand new, shiny, red, Rouge Card. You will not get a card online, but you can pick one up and have them tie it to your account on your next store visit.
The 2015 qualification gift is a 0.03oz Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème in So Rouge. This is 1/4 the full size, so it is small. If you love red lipstick and happen to finish it or want a backup, you can purchase the full-size (this is a Rouge exclusive) for $30. That makes this freebie worth $7.50. Marc Jacobs makes wonderful lipsticks, so I imagine I will love this.
The box is way bigger than the lipstick and will make a nice gift box for small items.
The welcome card is red, of course.
It goes over some of the benefits on the back. I am guessing they printed this before the decision to cancel the November VIB Rouge event. That event being canceled may not mean they all will be, but we will have to watch to see what happens there.
The lipstick is strategically placed in cardboard to prevent it from sliding in its large box.
The tiny red packaging of this lipstick is beautiful. I love all things red, so I cannot get over how much cuter this red is than the standard black on the other MJ lippies.
That is what the lipstick looks like fully extended.
I really love the deep red and the formula. It is comfortable and moisturizing, but it also lasts a long time.
The actual lip color pulls pink-red when I swatch it, but my skin tone is naturally pink. That makes reds look less vibrant at times.
You may have already noticed my Bite Agave Lip Masks are missing. This is the second time I’ve tried and failed to get my hands on this sample. I’ve heard great things, but I may just have to buy it without sampling it first. In its place, I received a Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask in an unmarked size. It is enough for one use, and I was unable to tell what I thought from my last use. Hopefully, this gives me a chance to decide what I think.
The other two samples were the ones I ordered, and I look forward to trying both. I received a 0.05oz MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA ‘REPLICA’ Lazy Sunday Morning and a 0.035oz Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink and Steel Ink. Replica usually does a good job of recreating scents, but the original is not one I’ve tried. Gel eyeliner is something I need more practice applying, so I love getting samples. It is not a waste when I mess up.
Whenever there are lippies in the point perks that I do not own, and I have enough to redeem, I usually do. Lippies are a serious weakness of mine.
This 100 point bareMinerals Pop of Passion™ Lip Oil-Balm in Plumberry Pop is also 0.03oz. It really does not bother me to get lippies this small, because I have never finished a lipstick no matter how small it is.
This color and formula were both very impressive to me. It wears like a balm, but it is so pigmented. When it fades, it leaves behind a beautiful stain that does not look terribly uneven. The moisturizing formula does not highlight dry patches or accentuate lip lines.
I really like the color and can already tell from the swatch that the formula will be moisturizing.
This is the first year I’ve taken part in the $10 Black Friday Deals. I’ve heard they went fast, so I never even bothered. After a long break, I recently started using my Clarisonic again. The luxe brush I opened days before the event is amazingly soft. Had I known that sooner, I would have opened it months ago. The Clarisonic Luxe Contour Brush Head Satin Precision usually retails for $30, so this $10 deal is 66.6% off. In retrospect, I should have picked up another one, but I do still have a bunch from the Ulta 20% Prestige Sale.
According to the box, this tarte Fanciful Favorites Deluxe Discovery Set is worth $41 making this $10 deal 75.6% off. Technically, the box lists it as a $10 deal, so it is really a $10 price with a $41 value. Most powder blushes fade from my cheeks very fast. The ones that last the longest on me (other than Laura Geller Baked Blushes) are Tarte Amazonian Clay ones. Getting a mini in a shade I do not already own and more Maracuja oil (which I already know and love) was the selling point of this kit. I have a lot of mascara, but I did not mind receiving another one. I can gift it if I decide not to use it.
The 0.13oz Lights, Camera, Lashes looks different from the Lights, Camera, Flashes I already own, so it may be worth trying separately. My current Maracuja Oil is close to its expiration date, so this 0.23oz backup will come in handy. I love the 0.05oz Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush containers. They are not deep, because despite being small, they are wide enough for a normal face brush. Fanciful is a beautiful addition to my healthy collection.
It is a lovely pink that builds nicely if you want a deeper color.
I actually decided to wear this with two swipes, so I think I used a medium application. The color is as lovely as the swatch appears. This formula fades on me slower than most other powder blushes, so I could still see remnants over four hours later. Most blushes have completely disappeared by then.
I usually do not buy perfume, because I rarely wear it. Trying perfume I am not familiar with is another thing I usually do not do. To get the promotion (which would have really stunk if Sephora did not send it to me), I needed to purchase a third deal. None of them really spoke to me, except some of the lower valued ones. This Nest Rollerball trio has a $56 list value. Though these rollerballs are 0.08 smaller than the size Nest sells, they are still 0.2oz each. That is not bad.
I already own small vials of Verde and Dahlia & Vines. If I love them, I can keep the rollerballs. Indigo does not already exist in my collection. Unless a vial happens to appear before the rollerball, I will probably give it away without trying it first. Trying it and not liking it means it is no good, because I would never re-gift a rollerball. It would be too hard to sanitize it. Of course, I will probably go for it if I try the other two and love both.
I am very happy with this Black Friday Haul. It was the only thing I purchased on Black Friday and because I technically purchased it on Thanksgiving, I did not really purchase anything on Black Friday. This is a great time of year for promotions, because there are many multi-item promotions available.
Sephora does not inform a single Beauty Insider of all deal details. Certain offers are targeted and others have different purchase minimums based on the code. Remember to check New Offers and/or Recycled Offers before placing an online order. If you’re spending over $25, you can add a promo code to any order. See all Sephora articles.
