Birchbox Man gives at least four beauty samples a month $20. The price is double the Woman’s box, because of the added lifestyle item, which usually retails for over $20 by itself. As long as the lifestyle item is something you’d want, you should always get your investment back. You will get an email reminding you to select your lifestyle item. Respond as soon as you can, because the more desirable lifestyle items can go out-of-stock.
All beauty samples are chosen based on the answers to your profile questions. For every review on an item received in your box, you get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A six item box, like this one, usually gets my husband $6 back. He can also share his box on Facebook for an extra 10 points. That will usually give him a total of $7 back to redeem toward future purchases.
The theme for this month is Home & Hearth. Although I do not see the theme in the box design at all, I like that Birchbox finally issued something other than the boring brown box.
The first thing you notice when you open a box is the product card. Each card represents a specific month, and this month is all about warming up.
It directs you to the website for a list of samples.
This list on your dashboard tells you what you received, how much it would cost to purchase the full size, and refers you to the product page if you want more information on it.
There was also a card with a unique discount code for $10 off a $35 purchase. He has more points than I do, so I may let him keep it.
The sample choice was between: a Topo Designs Watch Cap (Navy), a W&P Copper Flask, 2 pairs of Bombas Men Socks (Calf and Ankle), or the Featured Box, Arctic Explorer. That box includes: English Laundry Eau de Toilette Arrogant, a Naadam Cashmere Speer Beanie, das boom industries Everywhere Lotion Denali, Jao Face Crème, and Clinique for Men Charcoal Face Wash.
Even though one was a foil, there were five beauty samples this month. That is the same as last month.
The 0.5oz Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer is worth $2.50. At some point, I will use this. He told me earlier today that he likes this a lot, and I want to try all the good hand creams on the planet.
The 0.51oz CW BEGGS AND SONS Moisturizing Lotion (After Shave + Face Care) is worth $3.60. This is not a product he uses much, so I hope he gives this a fair shot.
The W&P Copper Flask retails for $36. He is only a casual drinker, but he has not overly impressed with sample selection this month. I love the $50 cashmere hoodie in the featured box, so he could have given it to me. Nevertheless, he selected this and tells me his plan is to fill it with water. It is a very striking flask and the only one I’ve ever seen in person that was not silver.
The 0.05oz Etat Libre d’Orange Cologne is worth $2.19. He is very particular with the scents he tries, so I hope he gives this a shot. I am partial to orange scents myself, but I have yet to smell this.
The 1oz PARLOR® by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing & Repairing Shampoo is worth $2.75. He seems to get shampoo almost monthly. Based on how little shampoo he uses, he could probably survive mostly on Birchbox samples alone.
The PARLOR® by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing & Repairing Conditioner is a 0.41oz foil. Although I do not place value on foils, this is a decently sized sample for someone with very little hair. It will probably last him a while.
The box has a $47.04 value. His personal value may also be $47.04, because I hope he will try everything in the box. As long as he loves the flask, I’d call this a successful month.
