If you have to buy it, get the best deal!
Some of the best deals available all year come around this time. Are you ready to shop? I’m going to discuss popular offers available now or coming soon. Waiting for the right deal may extend your holiday shopping budget and can prevent you from sacrificing quality for quantity. These are recurring offers, so if you’ve happened upon them for a different year, the dates will be different.
My favorite deal all year is a free gift card from Sephora. That’s right, free. It does have a purchase minimum, so Sephora wins on this deal as well. If you have a beauty insider account, you should receive an exclusive gift card code. The amount of your gift card will depend on your beauty insider status. If you are a Beauty Insider, you should get $15 off a $5o purchase. VIB clients get $20 off a $50 purchase. Rouge clients get $25 off a $50 purchase. That breaks down to 30%, 40%, and 50% off respectively (as long as you stick to purchasing $50). The more you spend, the less the discount is. Stay as close as possible.
The best part is you enter the code into the gift card field, so you will also get to use the promo code of your choice with the purchase. Most promo codes have a $25 minimum purchase. A select few have a $35 or even $50 minimum purchase. This gift card requires a $50 purchase, so all available promo codes for your Beauty Insider level will be applicable with this purchase. That means the gift card amount is included in the promo minimum.
As you can see from my purchase last year, I used a Rouge only promo code with a $35 minimum purchase on this gift card order. The $25 gift card came off at the end, so my total was $51 according to the promo requirement. By deducting the $25 at the end, you will pay sales tax for all items. That is the only drawback to the gift card over a promo code. My promo items were worth way more than the sales tax I paid so it was a great trade-off. If you are a beauty insider, check your mail and emails. My gift card arrived in both mediums around December 1st. The code was the same, but I appreciate that Sephora sent it two ways. As long as you get one, you’re set.
If you are a beauty insider and do not receive your gift card, be sure to call the first week of December. These gift cards have a limited redemption time. They are only valid for less than two weeks, and the lower your BI status, the less time you get to redeem. If I remember correctly, the valid dates for Rouge last year were 12/03/15-12/15/15. Promotions run around the same dates every year, so my educated guess is they will be good 12/02/15-12/14/15 this year. There is a cutoff qualification date that changes each year. It is usually sometime in October. In other words, if you crossed over from VIB to Rouge after October, you will likely see the VIB gift card. People willing to call, email, or contact a Sephora employee have reported getting an adjustment for the proper gift card amount.
Ulta sends a 20% off prestige one time use coupon to all UltaMate rewards members around mid December. It usually expires on Christmas Eve. These 20% off coupons usually have limited exclusions including: Lancome, Clinique, Dermalogica, fragrance (at times), and select others. At times, exclusions or even the discount amount are targeted based on purchase history. This is usually the 5th and last 20% off prestige offer sent during the year. If you live on the west coast, there is a good chance this order may not arrive before Christmas. Unless you order at the beginning of the sale, do not shop for others during this sale. It never hurts to use this sale to gift yourself though. You could always pay for expedited shipping, but I never recommend paying for shipping.
Beauty.com has a 20% off sale now through 11/21/15. There are limited exclusions, but I tested NARS Audacious lipsticks and they work. Any shopping you do now will also earn you a 5% credit toward future purchases 01/01/16-o1/31/16. I love that shopping now pays me later as well.
