Birchbox gives at least five beauty samples each month for $10. For every review I give, I get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A five sample box like this one got me $5 back. I also shared my box on Facebook for an extra 10 points. That gave me a total of $6 back to redeem toward future purchases. You can read my detailed overview of the program for more information. Each month, you get a sample choice or you can select the guest editor box. For this box, I selected the LOC Lipstick in Glam Life.
I do like the box design this month. It’s not my favorite but everything beats the boring brown ones.
The first thing you usually see when you open a Birchbox is a product card. It lists the items in the box and the price to purchase the full-size. Unless you choose to opt out for some reason, you will always get a sample choice. You can either select one item from a choice of 4-5 items or the guest editor box where you know all five in advance.
The back of the card usually goes over the box theme.
This month, the sample choice was between five items from the new Birchbox line of makeup, LOC: three Vibrant Matte Lipstick in First Kiss, Wildest Dreams, or Glam Life, and two Shadow Sticks in On Point or Impress Me. The guest editor box, GlamLifeGuru, included: Living Proof Perfect hair Day dry shampoo, LOC Tati One & Done Shadow Stick Day Trip, Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate, jouer essential lip enhancer Conditioning Lip Treatment, and Avene Hydrance Hydrating Serum.
My choice for this box was the 0.02oz LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Glam Life. I love it. It retails for $8.
This is the color Tati was wearing in the sneak peek video, and it is a beautiful berry for fall. The color builds making it great for day or night. It can become dark with a heavy application, but it is a perfectly suitable day time color with a very light hand. I love that this is pigmented and long-lasting.
The bullet allows for easier application similar to a liner. It is thicker than liner though, so it will make a mess if your hand slips. A traditional bullet or even thinner stick may have been better. This is somewhat velvety, so it feels moisturizing. My only complaint is it bunches up a bit as it wears making it look a little patchy.
The look above is of the lipstick, but it also includes theBalm® cosmetics Frat Boy® Blush/Shadow. I cannot find a size, but it is the same design and brand from this July Birchbox meaning this is probably 0.028oz. It is worth $1.96. This is such a beautiful pink. Like most powder blushes, it did not last long on my cheeks.
The swatch is a pretty pink but it looks much more chalky than its beloved predecessor.
The 0.05oz Harvey Prince Sincerely is worth $3.84. I’ve liked all the Harvey Prince scents I’ve sampled so far, so I will gladly try this one.
The 0.84oz Temple Spa La La Lagoon Aromatic Bath & Shower Gel is worth $3.02. That is a somewhat high value for a small liquid soap, so I look forward to seeing if it is worth the price.
The 0.5oz Obliphica Professional Seaberry Serum for fine to medium hair is worth $8.77. Products containing oil that direct me to massage them into scalp have not turned out well so far. As dry as my scalp is, I cannot handle the oily, my hair is dirty look putting things like this usually creates on my scalp. If by some miracle this goes smoothly on my scalp, I will report back. Of course, I can always use it from mid hair down if it does not go well.
The box has a $25.59 value. My personal value is also $25.59, because I will try everything. That is less than half the value of the other box I received this month, but I am still happy with this. With my ever-growing sample collection, it is not often that I get a box where all five samples are new to me. I like that it happened here.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
