Halloween Nails for The Uncreative

Happy Halloween. As October closes, I am finally caught up on all my articles! At the beginning of the year, I intended to start using my large nail polish collection more regularly. Life got in the way (the same reason for some untimely articles), and nail polish was not on my mind. Now, that I am trying to get back into the beauty world, I’ve decided to start painting again. A mini manicure each week is therapeutic even though it takes a lot of time, so I am going to get back on track. Halloween nails are a lot of fun, so I could not think of a better time to start again. I also wanted to see what an uncreative person could come up with, so I needed something cute that was not too difficult.

A Year of Birchbox Gifts: It’s a Wrap

See recent Birchbox articles and all Welcome Box articles.

Thanks for following along with My Year of Birchbox Gifts Series. After ordering 16 subscriptions this year, I am finally done. I love stats, so I thought it would be fun to wrap the adventure that way. Of those 16 subscriptions, 14 went to lucky gift recipients, and I sent 2 to myself. This does not include my main subscription, which dates back to February 2014. A little trivia. The top of the body remained very similar across most articles as did the base. Did you notice toward the end of the series that I started to change the wording at the bottom to show the end was near?

Birchbox Man November 2015 Stand For Something

See all Birchbox Man articles.

Birchbox Man gives at least four beauty samples a month $20. The price is double the Woman’s box, because of the added lifestyle item, which usually retails for over $20 by itself. As long as the lifestyle item is something you’d want, you should always get your investment back. You will get an email reminding you to select your lifestyle item. Respond as soon as you can, because the more desirable lifestyle items can go out-of-stock. All beauty samples are chosen based on the answers to your profile questions. For every review on an item received in your box, you get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A five item box, like this one, usually gets my husband $5 back. He can also share his box on Facebook for an extra 10 points. That will usually give him a total of $6 back to redeem toward future purchases.

The Vaughn Shampoo was in a past box, so it did not allow him to submit another review for 10 points. I’ve received duplicate samples when I select a guest editor box that repeats something I’ve tried before, and I do not recall being restricted from earning an additional 10 points. He has never selected a guest editor box, so I am unsure how a sample even repeated other than his idea that the last time he sampled it was in foil form. Foils are extras, so he thinks it may not have officially counted toward his tally. That could be it or Birchbox Man does not have the same rules about no repeats, because there are far less samples to hand out all around. We’ll see.

Sephora Mother’s Day Gift From My Boys Make Up For Ever Artist Palette- Volume 1 Nudes

My boys wanted to get me a gift for Mother’s Day after we went out to lunch. Xander insisted the gift be from Sephora. Nothing in the store inspired me, so I asked him if I could place an online order when I got home. He wanted to see me walk out of there with something, so I asked if they had the 500 point Marc Jacobs in stock. They did. Then, I saw a Dior bag behind the register and inquired if they were having a Dior GWP.

Caesars Palace Bacchanal Buffet

Everyone comes to Vegas for the buffets, right? I always hear people talking about the world-famous dining our lovely city boasts, but the cheap, lack of quality buffets seem to garner almost as much talk. There are a few exceptions and none get more buzz than Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace. That’s right! There’s no apostrophe in Caesars. My husband is adamant about getting things right, so I thought he would love that (if he reads this).

It was not that long ago when The Wicked Spoon at The Cosmopolitan was Top Dog. Our last breakfast visit was disappointing, so we have not returned yet. Considering my son only grabbed waffles and had milk, he did not get to eat anything thanks to hard, stale waffles. He could not even fill up on milk, because the server never returned after bringing the first tiny glass of milk. Luckily, the dinner was always more impressive, and I could feast on dessert alone.

Julep June 2015 Clean and Jelly Polish

When it comes to nail polish, I am a huge fan of Julep’s five free formula. These polishes chip less than most, and the polishes themselves are a good deal when you have a Maven membership. They are quality polishes, so I would probably purchase them at $14 each if I did not have my Maven membership. Luckily, I do not have to pay that much. The color selections and polish finishes are more vast than almost any other nail polish line. Every month, they release nine new colors. I have not skipped a box since I first subscribed in May 2014, because I find something I want every month. More often than not, the nail polishes are what draw me in, but I like to try Julep’s beauty products as well.

A Year of Birchbox Gifts Volume Fourteen

See recent Birchbox articles and all Welcome Box articles.

Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send all the women in my immediate family three-month Birchbox gift subscription for their birthdays. On 06/19/15, I ordered a subscription for my sister-in-law, who was about to turn 35. Her birthday was almost five months away, but I decided to have her gift delivered right away. It shipped a few days after I placed the order.

I redeemed $10 in points and ordered this for $20 from my primary account using the code CULTURE. This code gave me 100 points with the subscription order.

Target Beauty Box 10! of our faves

Target releases seasonal beauty boxes. They range in price from $5 to $10. Unlike some beauty boxes, this is not a subscription. Box contents appear online once they become available, which decreases the likelihood of buyer’s remorse. Items inside a box only tend to vary in color meaning your only surprise will be in the color you get. Some items inside the box are full-sized, and it is not unusual that one item exceeds the cost of the entire box if you were to buy it separately. I like that they usually release more than one box at a time giving you a choice or the possibility to get multiples. Men are not left out either, because they sometimes get a box of their own.

When Target advertised the 10! of our faves box, I really wanted the: lipstick, Roc, and skinfix. Other items were all bonuses. The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription. You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out quickly. I ordered it right away, because it was only $10. It is hard not to find $10 in value. This box sold out before I even got my shipping notification. That means waiting to see what comes in everyone’s box is not an effective strategy on obtaining one. If you want to make sure you get a fall box, subscribe to Target emails and look at them when they hit your inbox. Of course, I will always alert you on the front page when they come back in stock as well. Continue reading

Sephora Employee Appreciation Sale 101515-102815

See recent articles on Sephora Sale items.

The 2016 Employee Appreciation Sale.

There is a two-week period each year where Sephora employees get to send unique 20% discount codes to friends and family. It almost always starts in mid October. This is a real friends and family code meaning recipients are personally selected by an employee to get one. While some people may ask employees who are not friends or family members for codes, many will be unsuccessful. Some employees may offer theirs to strangers and customers they like where others will stick to the original reason for the code, friends and family. We all want to believe that our favorite rep is our friend, but unless the rep offers a code, the relationship is probably not a friendship. A good salesperson can make you feel like a friend though.

I was pleasantly surprised last year when a wonderful Sephora employee asked me to give her my email, so she could send me a unique discount code for 20% off. She’s pretty awesome, but that was above and beyond. Imagine my surprise when I got an email from a different incredible employee this year. Sephora employees usually go above and beyond, but this particular one is incredible. In case she happens upon this post, I will thank her here in addition to the message I already sent. Thanks! If you have not received a code yet, there is still time. The sale ends on the 28th. Assuming you are a VIB or higher, the VIB discount sale will also be coming shortly (probably around the 4th for Rouge and the 5th for VIB), so another 20% discount is coming.

Birchbox + babyGAP Limited Edition Box

See recent Birchbox Limited Edition Boxes.

You’ve banked a lot of points at Birchbox. What should you spend them on? There are thousands of great items in the store. If you’re a subscriber, you’ve probably even sampled some gems you could buy. I like to use my points to purchase more boxes. The Limited edition boxes, in particular. The Birchbox + babyGAP Limited Edition Box called to me. It has some awesome beauty products I look forward to trying. The items least useful to me are also the cutest items in the box, the bodysuits. At the time I ordered this on 03/23/15, my youngest was almost four. We had no immediate plans to have a baby of our own either. I knew there was a possibility we could try for another kid down the road. My thoughts were if I order this and we never have another baby, I can gift the onesies to any of the hundreds of people in our lives. Someone is always pregnant.

Citrus Lane October 2015

Citrus Lane is the subscription box for kids aged zero to six. My four-year-old loves getting a box that is all his. The boxes have a mixture of toys, educational tools, food products, beauty items, and more. A product card describing all items inside, which includes discount codes usually comes inside as well. As someone who looks for discount codes before every online purchase, I really appreciate this. A one month subscription is $29.95. Three months gets you down to $27 a box. It costs $24 a box for a six month subscription. Every month, you get the opportunity to select an item inside the box or add items on for a discounted rate. That allows kids to have some choice in their box, but they still receive surprise items.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Pink Quartz

I usually only share deals with you, so this will be an exception. This came from a Sephora store on 08/22/15. There were no promotions, no discounts, and no free gifts with purchase. It is so rare to see me say that. Only once in all my trips to Sephora was I ever brave enough to ask for a sample from a tester. That was for Benefit Big Easy, and I certainly have no regrets trying that gem. After debating back and forth on whether or not to get a Shimmer Brick for some time, I happened into Sephora after lunch. All the shimmer bricks (except one which was quite orange) swatched beautifully, but one blew me away.

Groupon Coupons

I love getting a deal when possible, and I love sharing them. Occasionally people reach out to me to help spread deals. That saves me some legwork, which I appreciate. When Cameron from Groupon’s new Coupon division reached out to me to help spread the word that their coupon site is a big deal (my words, not his), I looked into it. Groupon is already a site I am fond of, and I do take advantage of deals that interest me.  Hopefully, Cameron and anyone who could have discovered this gem sooner accepts my sincere apology that it took almost two months for me to look into it, but I’ve been a little behind in writing articles. Now that I am almost caught up, I want to share my thoughts.

MAC Whirl and Blending Brush 217 At Last

I have a lot of makeup brushes. When my beloved Lancome #17 disappeared, I ordered a Sephora #71 (on sale for $11 as a replacement). Knowing my favorite brush would pop up again, I did not want to replace it with an expensive one. The Sephora brush is not as good as my Lancome one and has a slightly different overall shape, but it got the job done while I searched for my precious. Less than one month after ordering the Sephora brush, it disappeared, too! My Lancome brush was still missing, so it was finally time to purchase a brush I’d been putting off for years. Yes, the infamous MAC 217 has eluded me for a while, but why?

Julep October 2015 Birthstone

I love collecting the Julep birthstones, so I collect them all and not just my birthstone. October’s offering is a beautiful pink, and it looks as perfect on as it did onscreen. Some may want to order this the first day of the month when it opens up in the secret store to get it before it sells out. The problem is they charge the full $11.20 Maven price in the secret store, and promo codes do not apply. If you wait it out a little, even the colors that sell out will usually return. As a Maven, I get free shipping with every order, so I could order the birthstone each month and call it a day. That is not my style though, because I live for a deal. Mavens get offer codes in each box (that I will always share with you here as long as Julep allows me to share it).

Ulta 20% Off Prestige

See the 2019 20% off Prestige Coupon Offers.

Ulta releases 20% off prestige coupons to UltaMate members five times a year: late January, early April, Platinum members in late June 2016, early July for UltaMate, late July for Platinum members (this is the normal time but members who received them in June did not receive the July offer), late October, and Mid December. The July offer was reduced to 10% for non Platinum members in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, the early April offer was also reduced to 10% for non Platinum members. During this promotion, select UltaMate members receive a coupon for $15 off a $50 purchase if they have not shopped in a long time. Each unique coupon is eligible for one online purchase AND one in-store purchase. Coupons emailed have a different code than coupons mailed. If you receive a coupon from both methods, you will have two different online codes and two different in-store bar codes.

Prestige offers have a few exclusions, so these coupons are not 20% off everything as the ad that comes with coupon states. They exclude: CliniqueLancome, Dermalogica, Dyson, Beauty Steals, and Benefit Brow Bar. Additional exclusions including fragrance and select new releases will be added at times. There are other times throughout the year to get offers for 20% off non-prestige or 20% off a single item, but those are general, multi-use codes. If you have more questions about this or any Ulta Coupon, I go over all types.

Disney Reigning Beauty Cinderella and Sephora VIBGLOW

My Snow White and Belle mirrors are beautiful, so I contemplated buying the other four. When they restocked, I kept telling myself I did not need them all. I really wanted Cinderella though, because she’s classic. After watching Ariel go out of stock, I decided I would purchase Cinderella if she was still available when a good promo code came along. On 10/07/15, someone graciously sent me a message stating the VIBGLOW released a day early. Knowing that code would probably run out of stock quickly, I decided to get the mirror. Stock did run out the same evening. Sephora did send me the official email the next morning after stock returned.
