Every Father’s Day, Sephora releases a promo code that allows you to pick up free samples for a special Dad in your life. We shop all year for ourselves, so it is nice to forgo our usual promo code to get something for him as well. It is usually 3-4 deluxe items with a $25-$35 purchase. Beauty Insiders get three, and VIB clients get four (reduced to 3 for everyone in 2016). This is a promotion I look forward to every year. Buying girly things usually yields girly samples.
My husband is so particular with samples that he usually refuses to try anything he has not researched forever first. Considering I love trying every sample I possibly can, it is safe to say opposites attract. If the items I get for him are completely free, I do not fret when he rejects them. Buying him beauty products is a complete failure unless he specifically tells me what to get him. I did get him an item from SAKS, and he was mostly happy with it.
The VIB code allowed you to either select a fourth deluxe sample for yourself or yet another one for him. Giving him three is already pushing it, so I picked the fourth one up for myself. The thought that the female sample is way smaller than the male samples did not escape me. I know these were for his day, but come on Sephora. Had I read the size descriptions, I would have used all four on him. That’s my fault.
Whenever you’re placing an order for promotion and do not have anything specific in mind to purchase, I suggest looking through the sales section. The only thing better than getting a fantastic promotion is getting a bunch of quality items for next to nothing. I was able to meet the minimum almost exclusively from the sales section. Then, I added one thing that almost never goes on sale to push me over.
The email for this specific promotion said it required a $25 purchase, but it would not process with a $25 purchase when I tried. Someone mentioned Sephora was aware of the error and was working to fix it. People could call and place a phone order to get the $25 minimum honored. I waited for them to fix it, because I wanted to take advantage of clicking through ShopatHome for $2.12. Waiting is a risk, because better samples can go out of stock. Getting certain samples make forgoing cash back worth it. Knowing how my husband scoffs at most samples anyway, it did not matter much to me. Once they fixed the minimum, I placed the order online.
Waiting paid off, because not only did I get four decent deluxe items, but I got really nice samples, too. None of my samples got substituted either. I love most things Lancome, so I look forward to trying the Shine Lover Vibrant Shine Lipstick samples. The colors look lovely, and I am trying to save this for a trip. When I travel, I love sample makeup. It is less bulky and less worrisome overall. No big deal if it breaks. Once I open it, I will come back and add swatches and pictures. It includes French Sourire, Fuschia in Paris, and Twisted Beige. Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield samples are everywhere. It surprised me how nice it was. It has a very silicone feel, and it bonds very well with the makeup I placed on top. Despite using no setting powder, everything was still there when I removed my makeup at night. Granted, it is cool outside (edited in the fall), so I will test this product again over the summer to see how it holds up to heat. That will also test the SPF function.
My Dior samples almost always get substituted, so I almost did not even believe this would reach me. I’ve only used one so far, because I am trying to save the others for when I travel. The Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care Lipstick in Bonheur is the one pictured below.
I enjoyed this lipstick. It was moisturizing and lasted a long time. Unlike some light colors that highlight dry patches and highlight dry patches, this looked and felt smooth. The rosy-pink color is such a beauty. Once I try the Dior Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care Lipstick in 999, the Dior Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss in 999, and the Dior Brilliant Lipgloss in Bonheur, I will report back on how they do.
The four deluxe items I selected with the promo are: Proraso Shaving Cream Refreshing and Toning Formula, The Art of Shaving- Shaving Cream, Dior- Dior Homme Eau, and Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream. I like Daisy Dream, but this is another sample available everywhere. My husband already loved the Art of Shaving item before I purchased it. He has not tried the others yet. Hopefully, he eventually tries them.
My sale nail polishes are NAILS INC Gel Effect Polish in Kensington High Street and Formula X in Hocus Pocus. I am in love with both colors. The stunning burgundy of the NAILS INC gives an incredible shine thanks to the gel effect. How can I not love a polish called Hocus Pocus. That is the best Halloween movie ever. Plus, it’s a holographic lavender. Purple anything is always welcome with me, but I love holographic polishes. They really pop. Compare this to my other salmon and wine polishes.
These holographic polishes are hard to photograph, but it is as beautiful as it looks. Compare this to my other purple polishes.
I’ve always wanted to try Shiseido Facial Cotton. Everyone talked about how it was so much better than regular cotton. Is the hype legit? Trying it for yourself is the best way to know, and I suggest it is worth a try. It is incredibly soft, which is the first thing I noticed when I touched it. The very thick pad has two seemless squares on the outside with innards that are not as smooth or dense. It’s very porous. This design prevents the pad from absorbing too much product. Most cheaper pads are thick inside, so they absorb a lot of product. Using a pad that absorbs less product can save you money even if the pads themselves are more expensive.
After using the amount of product I apply to cheaper cotton rounds, I quickly learned I need less product to complete the same task with these. A little product goes from one side of the round to the other helping distribute it all over your face. With how well the product works through the pad, it is nice the pad did not fall apart. Another complaint I have with cheaper cotton is the pad starts to fall apart when it’s too wet. Those fibers can stick to your face as the pad shreds. This pad stays soft and strong when soaked, does not shred as you use it, and definitely does not leave fibers on your face. You have to try them!
The Sephora travel bottles are a thin plastic. They have sturdy lids. If you’ve ever traveled, you’ve probably had bottles open up and spill product all over your other items. While I cannot promise it will never happen with these bottles, I’ve taken two trips (both by car) since receiving these bottles, and they held up so far. My only complaint with the large bottles is they are 3.7oz (which is 0.3oz over the TSA allowed amount). When I travel by plane, I wonder if they will allow me to bring these through. The size of the bottle is not printed on it, so they many not notice they’re too big. I guess I will take one on my next flight and fill it with something that does not matter to see how it goes. That or I could save these exclusively for road trips.
This is a promotion I will probably take advantage of ever year. I am pretty certain I took advantage of this in 2013 and 2014 as well. The beginning of November usually brings new VIB promo codes worth partaking in. Sephora does not inform a single Beauty Insider of all deal details. Certain offers are targeted and others have different purchase minimums based on the code. Remember to check New Offers and/or Recycled Offers before placing an online order. If you’re spending over $25, you can add a promo code to any order. See all Sephora articles. Read Tips For Getting the Best Deal When Shopping Sephora. I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
