2016 Event- The Gorgeous Hair Event for Spring 2016 is May 8th-28th.
Now that the 21 Days of Beauty at Ulta wrapped, what can you look forward to at Ulta? The Love Your Hair Event is to hair what the 21 Days of Beauty is to makeup and skincare. Those new to Ulta may have noticed there were no amazing hair products included in the 21 Days of Beauty. That is because it gets an event all its own. Hair is big in Texas and twice a year at Ulta (May and October). Last year, it ran from October 5th-25th, so the dates will probably be similar this year. Most steals posted in the special section of the Ulta site, so be sure to study it to plan your purchases.
Like its big sister (21 Days of Beauty), Love Your Hair gets three weeks of exclusive one day steals. You may also see some special Platinum steals along the way. Unlike its big sister, Love Your Hair has specific promotions that run through the entire event. This is the time to stock up on your hair care essentials. Brand specific gift with purchases will be mostly hair focused. Get special pricing on liter sizes of your favorite shampoo and conditioner. These prices are the lowest of the year and run throughout the event (as long as stock does not run out). Expect to see a listing of steals and deals around the 1st of October, so you can get your plans in place.
On 05/16/15, I took advantage of some deals in the spring event.
Of course, it helped that there was a free 18 piece bag to prompt this purchase.
Then, there was a deal that was too good to pass up.
One item from my haul was not on sale, but it was something I needed to replenish. I needed to go over $50 to get free shipping and get the gift.
This is the second year I remember seeing the Ulta Love Your Hair Caddy. I wanted to buy it last year when it was cheaper and came with samples, but I never did. Although it did not come with samples this year, getting it for $9.99 was not too bad. A shower caddy at Target without all the separate compartments cost $10, so this still seemed like a good deal. Even though it’s fabric, it’s made very well. It holds a decent amount of stuff. Thanks to being made from (durable) fabric, it is light. Buying a L’Oreal shampoo with this also allowed me to apply a $3.50 off $10 coupon (this coupon only applied to drugstore items, so it excluded Wella and Alterna).
By adding this $3.99 L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Total Repair Extreme 5 Shampoo to the order, I was able to apply the coupon. That means it really only added $0.49 to my order to pick this up. This shampoo is usually more expensive at Ulta, so I buy it and similar items at Target. Though Ulta over prices many drugstore items, it also puts them on sale and allows coupons to apply more often making it a good purchase decision when they’re combined. Although I added the L’Oreal shampoo to take advantage of the coupon, I did want to try it. Samples of this line were popping up everywhere. There is an option to order a sample of this on the front page if you want to try it. I ordered one of those also received samples of this line from the Winter and Spring Wal-Mart Beauty Boxes.
Although I have not tried this one yet, I have tried another product from this line and am liking it so far. I look forward to trying this and the different ones I’ve received.
The Alterna Caviar Clinical Daily Root & Scalp Stimulator is a staple I love. You may have already read about my love for this in the August FabuFinds or the review I left below for Sephora after I purchased it there for the first time. This bottle marks my fourth time purchasing this product. Each bottle seems to last 8-9 months. This does not completely remove the flakes on my dry scalp, but it does help to reduce them and prevents my scalp from feeling dry and itchy. It was not on sale, but I knew I would need it soon.
Another reason I’d been buying more shampoos lately is I was trying to find a suitable alternative to Wen. After sampling Dessange Paris for Influenster, I realized that Wen is not the only item for me. It rarely goes on sale, and I’d rather not sign back up for automatic delivery. I still love it, so I will never completely give up on it. Well is a brand I’ve wanted to try for a while, but it was always priced out of reach for me. One of the specials during this event was the opportunity to get 3 Wella items for $25. There were some restrictions, but most of the smaller items were included in the promotion.
The first thing I selected is the item I’ve heard the most about and really wanted to try, the Wella Elements Reconstructing Mask. In the 5.07oz size, this mask usually retails for $22. Getting it for $8.33 seemed out of this world incredible. I also selected Wella Elements Renewing Shampoo and Wella Elements Lightweight Renewing Conditioner. My other selections also retail for $22 each, so this steal gave me $66 worth of products for $25. There are so many deals like this during the event, so peruse the circular or online catalog to see what items you want but never ordered before due to cost. This event puts them within reach.
Ulta does not allow you to select your own samples, but you do get a choice of categories. For this order, I selected skincare. The samples I received were Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and Benefit Porefessional. The Smashbox primer gives me a rash, and it is in a lot of skincare or variety sampler packs lately. Luckily, I can use Porefessional, so at least one of these can stay with me.
The 18 piece gift was not that impressive to me, because it was mostly filled with foils, and the jelly bag looked cheap in the ad. There are plenty of times when ads do not lie, and this was no exception. Although I do like the minty-green color of the bag, I am not impressed with the rubber/plastic blend (jelly) with gold lining. I’d seriously think twice before taking this anywhere, but the material does seem like water would not penetrate it. That could come in handy on a sink top.
A $5 off $10 coupon on an Ulta purchase came with this. It has a unique code that I will share down the road if I do not personally use it. Thanks to some of the bath and body items in the line, I could redeem this. Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream is everywhere. I have multiple 0.05oz samples of this. The Hask Argan Oil Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner is a popular Ulta sample I’ve received in other orders, but I have not tried them yet. At 0.35oz each, I should actually get a full use from each.
These 0.17oz Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield samples have come at me from every direction. It surprised me how nice it was. It has a very silicone feel, and it bonds very well with the makeup I placed on top. Despite using no setting powder, everything was still there when I removed my makeup at night. Granted, it is cool outside (edited in the fall), so I will test this product again over the summer to see how it holds up to heat. That will also test the SPF function.
The 1oz Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Oil, and 1oz Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment are generously sized, so I should get a good feel of what they can do. I’ve received other 0.04oz samples of Benefit Cosmetics Stay Flawless, but I have not tried it yet. IT Cosmetics should consider releasing Bye Bye Under Eye samples in colors other than Neutral or Neutral Medium. All of my 0.11oz samples of this are in one of those two colors. This neutral one is too dark for me. Frizz is a huge problem for me, so I look forward to trying the 0.17oz Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo and Conditioner samples. They’re a little small, so I hope there is enough for a full use.
There is a learning curve to the 0.06oz Urban Decay Orginal Eyeshadow Primer Potion that prevented me from liking it at first. You cannot apply too little or too much, and you must give at least five minutes before applying shadow for it to set. I still prefer NARS to this, so I may not use this specific sample of it. My hair is wavy on top and curly on bottom, so I do sometimes try to wear it curly. It is not easy for me to pull of curls since the top layer does not want to cooperate. Devacurl Styling Cream has helped in the past, so I may keep this 1oz sample. Peter Thomas Roth masks have great buzz, but I have yet to try this 0.068oz Irish Moor Mud version. It is one I’ve wanted to try for a while, so I hope to use it soon.
Although I’ve received other samples of this 0.07oz Bliss Triple Oxygen Serum, I have not tried it yet. The Tan Towel Towelette is another sample I previously owned but have not tried yet. Ulta advertised a Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Bronzer Card for this promotion, but I received a Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm in its place. In typical Too Faced fashion, the Tinted Beauty Balm foil is way too dark. I have not even tried it and am beginning to wonder if Too Faced actually offers sample of this in light form, because I have only seen darker shades. When Ulta advertises a specific promotion, it does at times make substitutes.
This 0.16oz Lorac Tantalizer is new to me, but I have not tried it yet. I’ve received so many of these 0.05oz Dolce samples. It smells lovely, but I do not need this many. The 0.016oz Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash is definitely staying here, because I’ve wanted to try this for a while. There are not many Ulta makeup items in my stash, and this 0.19oz Ulta Super Shiny Lipgloss in Charmed reminds me why. While the light color with subtle glitter was fine, the taste and smell were not. It smells and tastes like fruit after its gone bad, but before it goes rotten.
It is not the worst thing I’ve smelled or tasted, but it is not a gloss I see myself repeating. The gloss was not sticky at all and imparted very little color. Without the off-putting scent or smell, it would not be a bad product. Wear was pretty average for gloss at around 2-3 hours. If there was a way to sanitize gloss, I would give this away. There is no way to sanitize it though, so I will just pass along future Ulta glosses before opening them.
Though most of the items in the gift did not impress, there were a few gems and items I look forward to trying that made it worth picking up. I only added an item I would have purchased a month or two down the road anyway, so it was free to add. If you have any hair care needs, wait to purchase them until the next event. These deals are only a drop in the bucket. There are always a lot of deals and steals during this event, which is probably a week or two away.
I will continue to post offers I am aware of, so no worries if you happen upon this post after the offers above expire. If you have questions about any Ulta Coupon, I go over all types.
