Birchbox Man gives at least four beauty samples a month $20. The price is double the Woman’s box, because of the added lifestyle item, which usually retails for over $20 by itself. As long as the lifestyle item is something you’d want, you should always get your investment back. You will get an email reminding you to select your lifestyle item. Respond as soon as you can, because the more desirable lifestyle items can go out-of-stock. All beauty samples are chosen based on the answers to your profile questions. For every review on an item received in your box, you get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A five item box, like this one, gets my husband $5 back. He can also share his box on Facebook for an extra 10 points. That will give him a total of $6 back to redeem toward future purchases.
There was no theme this month, so it came in the standard male box.
The first thing you notice when you open a box is the product card. It tells you what month the box is from and directs you to the website for a list of samples. This list on your dashboard tells you what you received, how much it would cost to purchase the full size, and refers you to the product page if you want more information on it.
There were only four beauty samples in his box, which neither he nor I were happy about. The good news is this is always the lowest amount to receive, so it cannot get worse. All but one sample was decent sized.
My husband mentioned not being overly fond of any of the sample choices or the featured box this month, so he settled on the Coalatree Nomad Backpack. It retails for $29.99. This is a lightweight backpack, so I suggested he take it hiking. He insists it is not durable for hiking but thinks it will be great for theme parks. Since our youngest got out of diapers, I am anti backpacks in theme parks. Hopefully, he finds a place to use this.
I love how this folds up. When folded, it is no bigger than a cosmetic bag. Another idea for this is to store it in his jeep for an emergency backpack.
This thing is almost full-sized when unfolded. My husband, who is broad-shouldered thanks to deadlifts and other weight training, had to adjust this to make it look normal sized.
The 0.25oz Hanz de Fuko Claymation is worth $2.31. CB loves sampling hair products, so he looks forward to trying this. I know he’s tried a lot, but he rarely buys the same one twice. He is still searching for his HG.
The PLANT Face Oil sample is extremely tiny. It does not list a size. Most cologne vials are bigger than this. That means it is unlikely this is even 0.05oz. I am calling it 0.05oz anyway, because oil sits differently than alcohol (the main ingredient in cologne). If my assumption about the size is correct, this sample is worth $2. His sample is 0A, which is the oil for normal/combination skin at Birchbox.
The 1oz CW BEGGS AND SONS Shower, Shampoo and Shave is worth $2.37. This sample did not excite him either. While he liked the item from this brand he sampled from the last box, he feels the same way about multi-use products that I do. We both feel items tend to work better when they’re designed for one specific area. Hopefully, he can find the area he likes it best and use it there.
CB was not thrilled to see the 1oz Clinique For Men Oil Control Face Wash worth $2.96. I bought him some Clinique for Men items to get items for him and a gift with purchase for me. Clinique is a gift with purchase king, so I hoped he wold like the line. There was nothing he loved and one item he really disliked. Luckily, I found a good home for that product. He says this was not one I purchased for him, so he is willing to try it. His hopes are not high though.
The box has a $39.63 value. His personal value is also $39.63, because he will try everything in the box. He made a point to select the highest value sample choice, because he wanted the best deal (after not being sold on anything specific). While selecting a cheaper lifestyle item may have resulted in higher value beauty products, he was not happy with the value of this box. I think getting almost double the value is fine, but I’ve subscribed longer than he has. Every box cannot knock it out of the park. Some boxes disappoint and there are others where everything is awesome. Totally sang the Lego song there! A few misses are okay, but he will cancel if too many miss him. If you want to subscribe, remember to look at start-up offers and all available offers. When you’re ready to spend your rewards points, remember to add your free two piece sample pack when spending $35 from the Bonus Shop.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
