The beginning of the new month to me always represents closing out the previous month. I am going to post August’s empties now and its FabuFinds later today. Now that I am all caught up, I will post the September Empties and Fabufinds on October 1st as scheduled. There is something so fulfilling about seeing something empty even though that sometimes mean you have to go out and buy more (assuming you do not already have backups).
I will give you a mini review on each item. I’ll tell you the items I love and will repurchase. If I like or am indifferent to an item, I will not rush out to repurchase, but I would be willing to use or try it again. Lastly, I will present the items that are not for me. Generally, I will not use these any more in the future. If they’re really awful to me, I always hope I can find someone else who may actually like them. Thus, I will try to find someone to give duplicates to. For the items that I really love, I will do a separate product spotlight on them at some point to discuss them in more detail.
Dessange Paris California Blonde Illuminating Conditioner- This conditioned very well for a medium density product. It worked well with the respective shampoo to soften and reduce frizz. Influenster sent me this to try.
Bliss Hot Salt Scrub with Rosemary + Eucalyptus- This scrub softens while it exfoliates. Nothing has ever left my skin feeling softer and free of dry patches the way this does.
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream- This is nowhere near as thick as Eucerin Cream, which is good and bad. On the good side, it blends in a lot faster and moisturizes extremely well. When I want the most moisture, I would opt for Eucerin, but this is amazing in its own right.
Ojon Rare Blend Oil- This works extremely well to increase shine and combat frizz when you have a perfect application. I place a dime sized drop in my hand and rub them together until oil coats both hands. Anything more than that and your hair will look greasy. If you use less than that, you will not see much of a difference. Do not put this to close to the roots or your roots will look dirty. It works best with wet hair but you can use it on dry hair if you cut the amount. The product must be applied almost perfectly, which prevents it from being a FabuFind for me. We all have off days, so I need something a little more foolproof. After I purchased this, Ojon released versions for fine and medium hair, so I look forward to trying those as well.
Alterna Daily Root & Scalp Stimulator- My scalp is dry and tight. This helps remove build up and provides some relief. Before I started using this, my scalp was always flaky. Since I started using it, I get flakes less often. Using a lot of products in my hair is okay as long as they are not building up on my scalp.
Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Tone Perfecting Cream- This left my skin feeling so soft. The sample was too small for me to see if any of the long-term effects it claims are true, but the feeling is amazing.
Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel- This gel is an eye lift in a jar just as it claims. I can see instant affects every time I use this.
Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense- Unless you’re in direct sunlight for a long time (in which case you would want an added sunscreen), this works very well as a face cream sunscreen combo. Despite my husband’s contradiction, it does not have a big sunscreen smell. The smell is almost nonexistent and the formula is moisturizing enough for my dry skin and matte on my oily skin.
H2o+ Targeted Hand and Nail Cream- It is creamy, has a smell I enjoy that is not overpowering and I like the $5 price tag. Lately, I only purchase them when I get a discount or in a bundle, so I get them even cheaper.
Dented Comfort Clean Floss Picks- This does a great job of reaching back teeth that I have a hard time getting to with regular floss. It is too awkward to help with front teeth. I got this courtesy of PINCHme.
H2o+ softening mint Foot Rub- I discovered this gem on a stay at The Grand Floridian Hotel, although this specific sample came from The Grand Californian. It is very soothing on tired feet. When your feet are not overly tired, you may not notice the mint at work. After a long theme park day, it is so relaxing. This is not as moisturizing as the June Jacobs foot cream I love, but it is more soothing. If I am going somewhere with a lot of walking, I want this with me.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer- It was moisturizing and provided a light coverage. Bonus points that the sample was a very close match to my skin color.
Gold Bond Healing Aloe- Moisturizing for a medium density formula. I initially thought this had a slight greasiness. The more I used it the more I realized it is exactly what I love. It keeps my skin hydrated without being sticky or completely absorbs. This was given to me courtesy of PINCHme.
Coola Mineral Sunscreen Natural BB Cream- The consistency of this falls between a foam and a mousse. It’s very light. I love the matte finish. This formula has very light coverage and the anything with sunscreen in it is awesome.
Summer’s Eve Night-Time Cleansing Cloth- I love the lavender scent. These are so perfect for refreshing on the go. The PH balanced formula is gentle. This was given to me courtesy of PINCHme.
Too Faced Bronze Wardrobe- Chocolate Soleil is a classic color that I can wear with a light application. If I apply it too dark, it can look muddy. While I cannot call the way I feel about that bronzer love, I do like it. Endless Summer on the other hand is a fabulous color on me. It looks natural and is not orange at all. Although it does not last 16 hours on me, it does seem to fade slower than most other bronzers.
Fresh Rose Face Mask- This smells great and hydrates my skin nicely.
Willing to Try Again
Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Shampoo- This lacked the magic of the Illuminating Shampoo. Thanks to the three oil blend, it did leave my hair soft. The problem is my hair was still left a little frizzy with this. I also preferred the cleanse the other product provided, probably because this did not lather as well. It takes more product to clean when something does not lather well. In some cases like Wen, I do not mind. When there is another product in the same line that does a better job utilizing less product, I will not purchase it again. That said, this is still better than a lot of shampoos, so I would use it again if it made it to me.
Secret Outlast- I am not a huge fan of gels, because I do not like the wet feeling under my arms that takes a bit to dry. Since I started using Clinical Strength, I find regular versions do not protect from sweat as much or keep me smelling as fresh. BzzAgent sent me this to try. This is something I’d use again, but I would probably not purchase it.
Lancome High Resolution Eye Refill 3x- This moisturized the area nicely. Like most Lancome eye cream samples, the jar is terrible. The lid falls off easily no matter how much you tighten it. Of all the eye creams I’ve tried in these glass jars so far, they’ve all hardened before I reached the end. That is because way too much air has mixed with the product. I have no clue if any of these eye creams do what they say, because while the sample is generous enough to see potential results, the faulty lid prevents me from seeing anything.
H2o+ sea salt Hydrating Body Lotion- I was slightly disappointed when Disney Cruise Line replaced the body butter with the body lotion. The lotion is nice, but I love the body butter. This smells wonderful, although my husband dislikes it.
Drybar Bay Breeze Hydrating Shot- I received this courtesy of Beautytalk. While it helped my head feel moisturized post sunburn, I did not notice much of a difference to my hair. Rather than using this again on my sunburn, I decided to wait until it’s not. That way, I can see what if anything it does for my hair.
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Protect- Any product that adds SPF to my face cannot be bad, so short of a terrible allergic reaction, I would not write it off. It felt very moisturizing, which my dry skin appreciates. The formula did not apply as matte as I would have liked, so my face still felt wet when I applied anything on top. That’s great for a dewy look, but it is not great and does not set as well when you’re looking for something a bit more matte.
nugg Face Mask Revitalizing- I did not notice a difference before vs after. Luckily, I have another one of these, so I can try this again to see if it does anything. It did feel nice when it was on, almost refreshing.
Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime Verbana- This smells great and actually leaves less of a film on my skin than most bar soaps. The problem is it still leaves a film, so I would not buy this. I will take these home when we stay at Legoland Hotel, because we love it there and will be staying there as often as possible.
Rituals Mandarin Bliss Facial Bar- This Radisson offering is okay at best. It leaves a film and smells all right.
Not for Me
Shine Lotion- The only reason I even took this from the Sheraton on our recent stay is I did not pack enough lotion. I keep saying I will stop staying there based on how much I hate Shine products. The only hotels worth staying at near Universal Hollywood are the Sheraton or the Hilton. Sadly, the Hilton did not have vacancies. This lotion is so thin and lacks moisture that I cannot even make it to the next hand wash before I have to apply more lotion. I can only use it once a day or so, because there was a time I used this all day and my hands were a wreck by the end.
Shine Bar Soap- This is not as awful as the other shine products, but it leaves a film on my skin like all bar soaps. It is not super moisturizing either.
I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
