Welcome back to the year of Birchbox gifting. This is the year I decided to send three-month Birchbox gift subscriptions to all the women in my immediate family. Right after placing an order for my sister on 04/06/15 in Volume Three, I wanted to place an order for my sister-in-law who was about to turn 25. Unlike the other orders where I ordered first available shipping, I delayed shipping on this until 04/28/15 to have it arrive closer to her birthday. The ship date has more to do with the samples that arrive than the order date.
Seeing what comes in their welcome boxes, which are never customized to a profile, would be fun for me and hopefully helpful to someone thinking of purchasing a gift subscription for a family member or a first subscription for herself. Promo codes can only be used once per account and I wanted to order more gift subscriptions on 04/06/15, so I opened a second Birchbox account. It is something I wanted to do for a while anyway. There have been many months where I had a hard time choosing a sample with the latest and greatest custom designed box or the guest editor box, which is different. With two accounts, I could choose both if they were awesome.
I created a new month to month account using my second email address. You can only have one account per email address, but there is no rule that you cannot have more than one subscription. There was a 100 point code for creating new subscriptions that did not work on gift subscriptions, GAP10. It is no longer active, but I always list active codes I am aware of here. Immediately after paying $10 for my first month and using the code, I placed an order for a gift subscription redeeming the $10 in points I earned only seconds earlier. That means the gift subscription only cost me $20.
In Volume Two, I also used BBJETBLUE10 on the gift subscription purchase to get 100 points back. This was a different account, so I was not limited in using the code here. I used it and banked the extra $10 in points. You cannot count points as you earn and redeem, so I will only count them as I redeem them. That means the $10 I get back on this order will be used on a future order just as the $10 I applied on this order was earned on my personal subscription order.
Her first box arrived a bit before her birthday. I am always open to receive Not Soap Radio products. They smell amazing, have fun names, and I love sampling different soaps. Finding ones I like that do not dry out my skin is always a challenge. It is a little easier now that I never skip moisturizing afterward. Not Soap Radio Body Wash in Bathing with sharks for that competitive edge in work and/or play is one I have yet to receive, but I hope I get it.
The first item that jumped out at me was the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil. This is a popular Birchbox brand, but it took me over a year of subscribing before I received my first item from them. Though I have not yet tried my sample of this, I absolutely love hair oils. My hair is frizzy, so anything that tames the frizz a little is very welcome.
The Cynthia Rowley Creamy Lip Stain looks lovely. I’ve received a couple of these myself, and I think this looks like a color I own.
Whish Shave Cream Pomegranate is something I’ve sampled in the past. Although I am not a fan of this scent, I am a huge fan of the shaving cream. It gives a closer shave than anything else I’ve used. This is an item that I’ve purchased the full size of since falling in love with my sample. I bought the Agave scent from Ulta, and I am really liking it.
Harvey prince hello body cream is a sample I’ve received but have not yet tried. It smells like the scent, which is nice enough. I look forward to trying it to see if it is moisturizing and hope the scent is not overpowering.
This means all of her items look exciting to me. Some may wonder why I am offering my opinion on her items instead of getting her own. The reason is I did not want the gifts burden her, so I did not want to have her tell me what she thought of each one. On that note, I also refrained from asking her for the size of the items. Anyone who reads my personal box reviews knows I break down the value of the samples, and I will still do that for my boxes.
The welcome boxes usually do not take the beauty profiles into account, so I also did not feel it was necessary to ask my gift recipients a bunch of questions to see why they got the welcome box they did. I am not sharing any of their boxes that take their profile into account. Again, this is to let them enjoy their gifts without me bothering them. My boxes are pretty good, so I have not touched my settings in a while. I will be more than happy to share my settings on my box for people who want to tinker with theirs.
I answer more questions regarding the program if you want more details on how it works. You can review other welcome boxes I’ve sent and received this year. Ready to send a Gift Subscription?
