Birchbox gives at least five beauty samples each month for $10. For every review I give, I get 10 points, which is equal to $1 in the shop. A six sample box like this one got me $6 back. I also “shared” my box on Facebook (only I can see it) for an extra 10 points. That gave me a total of $7 back to redeem toward future purchases. You can read my detailed overview of the program for more information. Each month, you get a sample choice or you can select the guest editor box. This month, I selected the Beauty Protector Protect and Oil.
The first thing you notice when you open a box is the product card. It tells you what items are inside and how much it costs to purchase the full-size.
The Beauty Protector Protect & Oil does not list a size, so I am guessing the size at 0.25oz. It is very unusual to receive an item without a size somewhere on it (at least in women’s boxes). If my guess is correct, this sample is worth $1.62. Beauty Protector is a huge Birchbox brand, but I had never received it before this box. That includes my 13 previous monthly boxes, extra limited edition boxes purchased, or any bonus samples added to orders. It was long overdue, so selecting it was an easy decision. I’ve wanted to try this brand since I started subscribing. My current hair oil is almost gone, so I will try this soon. OCD usually prevents me from having too many of the same type of item open at once. Plus, the expiration countdown starts once you open it.
The 0.05oz Mirenesse Glossy Kiss in Cheeky Kiss is worth $11. My color is a pinkish-beige, and I think it is very flattering. The concept of this pencil is pretty neat. For those who love lipsticks but want a glossy look, they should check these out. They can eliminate the extra step of adding a gloss on top of a lipstick. It feels and applies like a lipstick but appears like a thick gloss. You can also use it as a cheek stain or blot it for a more traditional lipstick look according to this Birchbox video, but I have yet to try those ways. It did a nice job of moisturizing, and I liked the appearance even though it was slightly patchy. The wear was short-lived. Although it accentuates dry patches on lips a lot less than most lipsticks, it did not hide them as well as most glosses.
The 1oz No4 Clarifying Shampoo is worth $3.76. I use a lot of products in my hair, so I like the concept of clarifying shampoos. According to the Birchbox video I’ve seen on this, it lathers pretty well for a sulfate free shampoo. Lack of lather is my least favorite thing about sulfate free shampoos. Nothing makes my hair look the way sulfate free shampoos do, so I love them for regular cleaning and like a sudsing shampoo for deep cleaning. This could be interesting.
When the single use 0.27oz WEI Manuka Bee Venom anti wrinkle mask debuted in the February box, I wanted it. As a huge fan of the WEI products I’ve tried thus far, this sounded interesting. It made me happy when I saw I was getting it in my March box until I realized it uses real bee venom. I assumed it simulated bee venom, but I am allergic to the real deal. My husband will try this sample worth $7.50. I usually do not place a value on glorified foils, but WEI actually sells these masks in single use form. Based on the mud one I love, I understand why they package these individually. They would probably dry out quickly if packaged together.
The 0.17oz Jouer luminizing moisture tint sunscreen is worth $4. Items that are not a perfect color match are too common with samples, but I will try it and hope for the best. Blind selecting a color without knowing what someone looks like is not something I could do.
Although I am always happy to receive foils, I do not value them. This 0.25oz No4 Reconstructing Masque is enough for one use. I love receiving hair masks, and I love getting 10 points for reviewing them.
The box has a $27.88 value. My personal value is also $27.88, because I will try all the samples.

I'm Kimberly. Shopping is always more fun when I've found the best deal available, so I am always on the hunt. My father instilled that in me, and I love that I carry a piece of him. Sometimes, my husband and sons (12 and 7) let me shop for them, too. They do not use as many beauty products as I do. We can all benefit from nice products, even though their routine ends with moisturizer. That is when I can convince my 12-year-old to apply it.
