Target Beauty Box Back to College: Honor Roll

Target releases seasonal beauty boxes. They range in price from $5 to $10. Unlike some beauty boxes, this is not a subscription. Box contents appear online once they become available, which decreases the likelihood of buyer’s remorse. Items inside a box only tend to vary in color meaning your only surprise will be in the color you get. Most items inside the box are full-sized, and it is not unusual that one item exceeds the cost of the entire box if you were to buy it separately. I like that they usually release more than one box at a time giving you a choice or the possibility to get multiples. Men are not left out either, because they sometimes get a box of their own.

When Target advertised the Back to College boxes, neither really struck me as must-buys. The limited edition boxes are first come, first served, which is the only drawback on the lack of subscription. You have to act quickly when the boxes come out, because it is not uncommon for them to sell out quickly. I ordered them right away, because they were only $5 each. It is hard not to find $5 in value even when the boxes do not immediately speak to you. Both boxes sold out before I even got my shipping notification. That means waiting to see what comes in everyone’s box is not an effective strategy on obtaining one. If you want to make sure you get a fall box, subscribe to Target emails and look at them when they hit your inbox. Of course, I will always alert you on the front page when they come back in stock as well.

The first thing you will always notice when you open a Target Beauty Box is a product card that describes all the items inside.

There is a $3 off a $15 beauty purchase coupon attached to the product card. These are unique coupons that work once online AND once in store, because the online promo code is different from the bar code. They usually expire within a month of receiving the box. This one expires 08/23/15. It works on all beauty purchases, even body lotions and hand creams. I do not factor coupons into box values, because they’re only valuable when you redeem them.

This box also reminds you to share the products you love on social media.

The Bathery Delicate Bath Sponge in bright pink is huge. I think the $1.99 price is incredible. Up and Up branded loofas, which are much smaller and less sturdy feeling, cost almost as much. This one is also a lot softer to the touch. It was only recently that I decided I would not buy the hard ones anymore, so I hope this one feels as soft on my body as it does in my hands.

The John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day In-Shower Treatment arrived opened. Luckily, very little spilled out. Once a product is open, the expiration starts counting down, so I will use this soon. This 1oz sample is worth $2.25.

The 3.0oz Olay Fresh Outlast Cooling White Strawberry & mint Body Wash is worth $0.63. Even closed, I can tell it smells great. I love sampling body washes, because my dry skin cannot handle certain kinds.

The 0.27oz NYX butter gloss in Strawberry Parfait is full-sized. Target sells it for $4.99. I like the light pink color, so I am glad this is the one in my box. This lippie has a cult following and I can see why. It feels incredible on, is not too glossy, lasts a decent amount of time, and is more pigmented than your average gloss.

Can a girl every have too many hair ties! I lose them, break them, and replace them so often. I have purchased The Goody Ouchless No Metal Hair Elastics in the past. My hair rarely gets stuck in them, and they take a while before they lose elasticity. They do a pretty good job for $0.13 hair ties. Do not use these if you are looking for hair that is crease free. These are best used when your hair is staying up the rest of the day. There are three here, so these are worth $0.39.

The 1.0oz Covergirl outlast all-day primer sells for $9.79. Every box has one box that exceeds the cost of the box. Makeup primers are so important in my city, especially in the summer when makeup likes to melt away. I like trying different makeup primers, so I can see how they measure up to one another.

The Burt’s Bees facial cleansing towelettes are another makeup removing wipe I’ve purchased in the past but have not used yet. If I love the ones I bought, I have a backup. Someone will receive these if I do not love the first set. This is 1/3 size, so it is worth $2.

As with all drugstore products, price variation is huge depending on where you shop. For this box, I used Target prices on all items. The box has a $22.04 value, which is very close to the $20 Target estimate. That is a bit less than the Summer Box, but that one was $2 more expensive. My personal value is also $22.04, because I will try everything in it. After going through both Back to College Boxes, I prefer this one to the Back to College: Head of Class Box. Of course, it did not help that the other box had a spill. If you missed out on this Back to College Box, don’t fret. The Fall box will be out soon.
