Julep February 2015 Birthstone

I love collecting the Julep birthstones, so I collect them all rather than just my gemstone. February’s offering was a black glitter polish. While black is not my usual color, my collection needs to be complete. Also, a little glitter never hurt anyone, so I am always down for a glitter polish. Some may be tempted to order this the first day of the month when it opens up in the secret store. More popular colors will sometimes sell out when they’re in the store. The problem is they charge the full $11.20 Maven price in the secret store, and promo codes do not apply.

If you wait it out a little, even the colors that sell out will make a triumphant return. It can take some time with certain colors, which I will cover soon. As a Maven, I get free shipping with every order, so I could order just the birthstone each month and call it a day. That is not my style though, because I live for a deal. Mavens get offer codes in each box.

The offer code received with my February 2015 Maven box was for a free polish with a $15 order. This is actually a tricky code. Sometimes, it counts the pre discount amount and other times it counts the after discount amount. One polish with Maven pricing is $11.20. Two polishes would be $22.40.  If the free polish applies before the discount as it did here, it calculates on the $22.40 price. When it applies after the discount, you would only have $11.20 toward your $15 met here. To see which offer applies, experiment. More often than not, you will need to have $15 in your cart after the discount applies meaning you need to buy more than two polishes.

Julep Gemstone February 2015

I ordered my gemstone along with a second polish on 02/07/15 for $11.20 total. That means the second one was completely free or I paid 50% for each depending on how you look at it. Either way, this is one of the better deals you will see. The February 2015 gemstone is Julep Bernadette, named after Bernadette Peters. While she is not a polish I would normally buy, I am happy to continue my collection, which as of this purchase included all 2014 colors, January 2015 and February 2015. Compare this to my other brown and black polishes.

Julep Bernadette

The polish I was actually excited about was Julep Hazel. She is such a beautiful, vibrant shade of purple with a micro glitter that provides a slight sheen. I discovered her on Beautytalk and knew I had to order her. Purple is my favorite color behind red, and I absolutely love all purple makeup items. Compare this to my other purple polishes.

This order actually arrived during the time where I halted my nail polish challenge. Once I start the challenge again, I think Hazel has a strong chance of making it in early. Bernadette may be waiting a while.
